SIXTY TWO

"You threw Pepper on the fire."

----------

"Wow, this girl's good." Joey glanced down at me.

"Oh, yeah, a song with rhyming words—never heard that before." Phoebe replied saltily.

"I like her." Chandler announced.

"'Cause she can sing and play the guitar and do both at the same time?" She glanced up at him.

"That's pretty much all I'm looking for from these people." He quieted down a bit.

"Look at you all jealous." Monica pat her knee.

"Yeah, Pheebs. Come on. You two have completely different styles, you know? She's more..." Ross pumped his fists a couple of times. "You know, and...you're more..." He backed down when Phoebe glared at him.

"Phoebe, you have got nothing to worry about. I love your songs." I kissed her cheek. The new girl finished her song, and everyone clapped for here. All except for Phoebe.

"See? See? Everybody else is happy she's done." She sat up.

"My next song is called 'Phoebe Buffay, what can I say? I really loved when we were singing partners, and I shouldn't have left you that way'." We looked over at Phoebe in shock.

"Oh, no. One of those 'look for the hidden meaning' songs." She rolled her eyes. After her songs, the singer, who was also Phoebe's ex–partner, came over to us.

"Hey, Phoebe." She greeted our friend.

"Leslie." Phoebe acknowledged her. "How'd you know I'd be here?" She glanced over at Leslie.

"I ran into Vlad at the place where they sell the big fish. He said you played here a lot, so, um..." She trailed off.

"Phoebe tells us you write jingles." I smiled at Leslie politely.

"Actually, I said she abandoned me to write jingles." Phoebe corrected me.

"Uh, anything we might have heard of?" Joey spoke up.

"Yeah, um..." She sang a popular commercial's jingle, and the rest of us expect Phoebe sang the ending with Leslie. "But I don't do that one anymore. I got kind of sick of it, and then I couldn't come up with anything good, so they fired me." She crossed her arms over her chest.

"Bummer." Phoebe humphed.

"Well, uh, you know, I was just...um, I was just thinking and just hoping that...maybe you'd want to get back together." She squatted next to Phoebe by the couch.

"No, but thanks." Phoebe declined.

"Come on, Phoebe, would you just think about it?" Leslie pleaded.

"Okay." Phoebe paused for a moment. "No, but thanks." She didn't change her mind.

"Okay. Uh..." Leslie stood up. "See you, Pheebs." And she walked away.

"That was kind of brutal." Joey broke the silence after Leslie left the coffee shop.

"Let this be a lesson to you all." Phoebe warned us. "Alright? Once you...Once you betray me, I become like and icewoman. You know, I'm just...very cold, hard...unyielding." She listed out. "You know, nothing...nothing can penetrate this icy exterior." She shook her head. "Can I have a tissue please?" She requested.

"Joey and I should get going. We have to look through the Macy's home catalog since someone destroyed my microwave." I gave my boyfriend a look.

"Baby, it was a mistake. I can't be the only one who didn't know that you can't put aluminum in the microwave." He turned to the others, who just gave him disapproving stares. "Oh, come on." He groaned. We were putting on our coats when a woman came by.

"Joey? Joey Tribbiani?" She called out to him. Joey quickly hid behind the coat rack. "Joey, I can see you. You're hiding behind the coats." She said again. He just motioned for me to keep quiet. She just walked out in defeat.

"Oh...close one." He let out a sigh fo relief.

Later the next day, Joey came over to Monica's apartment while Phoebe, Monica, and I played around with a Ouija board.

"Is, uh, is Chandler around here?" He inquired.

"No, he met some girl at the coffee house." I answered while the three of us put away the game.

"Ooh." He smirked.

"Yeah. Ginger something." Monica added.

"No, no, no." He quickly changed his tone. "That's the girl I was hiding from. When she finds out he's my roommate, she's going to tell him what I did." He went over to the living room.

"Hold on, which one is she again? The one with the le—?" I was about to guess.

"Yeah, yeah, it's that one." He cut me off.

"What did you do?" Monica blurted out in question.

"Oh, no, no, I can't...I can't tell you that. It's like the most awful, horrible thing I've ever done in my life." He shook his head and sat down on the couch.

"But you told Suparna." Phoebe interjected.

"That's because she's my girlfriend. She has the right to know about all of my one–night–stands." He defended.

"Maybe we should just wait until Chandler gets home. It'll be a lot more fun that way." Monica shrugged her shoulders, knowing that she was getting to him.

"Alright, fine." He gave in. The three of us surrounded him. "Okay, it was like four years ago. Ginger and I had gone out a few times, and then this one weekend, we went up to her dad's cabin—just me, her, and her annoying little dog Pepper. Well, that night, I cooked this really romantic dinner..." He started the story.

"You gave her food poisoning." Monica accused him.

"I wish." He sighed. "After dinner, me, her, and Pepper all fell asleep in front of the fire. I woke up in the middle of the night, and I saw that the fire was dying out, so I picked up a log and threw it on. Or at least what I thought was a log." He continued.

"Oh my God! You threw Pepper on the fire." Phoebe exclaimed.

"I wish." He repeated. "See, I guess another thing I probably should have told you about Ginger is that she kind of has a, uh...artificial leg." He admitted, making the other two gasp in shock.

"My God. Joey, what did you do after you threw her leg on the fire?" Monica questioned.

"I ran!" He cried out in defense. "I'm still in shock Suparna's going out with me." He motioned towards me.

"That's what I keep asking myself every single day." I looked up at the ceiling. Later that night, Joey got into bed with me for the night.

"Do you really not want to be with me? I mean, earlier, you said you ask yourself every day why you're going out with me." He inquired.

"Oh, honey, oh...Joey, I love you with all my heart. If anything, I'm the lucky one in this relationship." He rolled me so that I was laying on top of him.

"Let's call it a tie." He suggested.

"Whatever you say, Joe." I pecked his lips. "Good thing there isn't a fire in here." I teased him.

"Yet it's getting pretty hot in here." He winked at me.

"Goodnight, Joey." I chuckled and lay my head on his chest.

"Night, Suparna." He kissed the top of my forehead and hugged me into him. The next day, I was in the kitchen making some cookies and brownies while listening to music. "Do you know how hot you look when you're dancing around like that?" I yelped when I heard Joey's voice.

"What are you doing? You scared the shit out of me." I placed a hand on my chest.

"What do you think I'm doing? I'm watching my lovely girlfriend dance." He shrugged his shoulders.

"Instead of watching me like a creep, why don't you join me?" I extended my hand out as an offer. He took it and pulled me into a tango pose. As the guy, he led me in the sensual dance. "You know, the tango doesn't really go with 'Black Sabbath'." I cringed a bit.

"Then let's dance the way we should." The two of us pretended to play electric guitars while banging our heads like most rock band members do. In the afternoon, the entire gang met up at Monica's place.

"Woo, woo, woo!" Chandler shut the door behind him.

"Where have you been?" Ross glanced back at him.

"The doctor." He answered with a smile.

"Is everything okay?" Joey inquired.

"Oh, yes. Just had me a little nubbinectomy." He did a little awkward happy dance. "Yup. Two nipples. No waiting."

"Just like Rachel in high school." Monica and I giggled.

"What?" She exclaimed.

"Come on, Rach, I was just kidding. It was such an obvious joke." I shrugged my shoulders.

"That was an obvious joke, and I didn't think of it." Chandler pointed at me. "Why didn't I think of it?" He pointed a finger at himself. "The source of all my powers. Oh, dear God, what have I done?" His eyes widened in shock.
