Chapter 5

Rayne has never been an early riser. So, when she was told to report at 9.30 AM, instead of the usual 8 AM, she was more than happy.

The extra 1-hour sleep she got this morning put her in a blissful mood. No one was going to ruin her day, not even her.

It was 8 AM. Somehow Rayne managed to get ready faster than usual. She decided to stop on her way to get coffee. She's never one to skip coffee.

Leisurely making her way through the street, she sipped on her coffee.

She took her time to enjoy the walk.

When she saw someone smoking right in front of the hospital, she had to cut it off.

"Sir, I'd strongly advise against smoking here."

"It's not even lit yet," the voice sounded almost too defeated.

The next thing she knew, her coffee was all over him.

"Oh, shit!" He exclaimed.

Both of them had spilled their coffees over each other, all over each other, to be honest.

Sebastian had a genuine expression of guilt written all over his face, when he saw that he was the reason for all this commotion.

"I'm sorry," Rayne cried sheepishly.

"Oh no, it's okay. It's on me, I'm the one who's blocking the entrance, with a cigarette in my hand," he said apologetically, "I'm so sorry," he finished and looked at her face.

Rayne has always been a people pleaser. She never stood up for herself. She's been known to take shit from everyone, without a grunt.

When he found him blaming himself, she couldn't help but sympathize with him. Above all that, he seemed familiar.

Sebastian looked at her. He has never made eye contact with her, so he wasn't prepared to react. He didn't know how to react. He saw her staring at him. Maybe she was angry. He cleared his throat.

This was the moment Rayne realised that she had been staring at him. Far too long, that she felt the need to explain.

"It's equally my fault," she hesitated as she took in his face, "I'm sorry, but you just look so familiar."

'Does she remember me?  It's been so long.'

He didn't know how to respond to that. Should he just say that he'd been here every month just to see her ? No, that sounded so creepy, no matter his intentions.

Sebastian never thought about what he would do when he saw her in person. He never thought about approaching her. He may have unconsciously sabotaged his previous relationships because of her, hell, he even imagined a life with her, but didn't think about how to talk to her. It was always one or another happy scenario in his mind.

So when when she is standing in front of  him, talking to him, he just couldn't help but stare at her. He fixated on her hazel eyes, how many nights had he lay thinking about the twinkle in her eyes when she speaks about something she likes. He didn't know what he was feeling, he could feel his cheeks heat up at the sight of her, as he continued staring at her.

She gave an amused smile.

He shifted his gaze from her eyes to her lips, and realized that he should say something in response.

'She probably knows me from the movies', he thought. So he decided to play it safe.

"Loads of people say that to me," he laughed.

Rayne concentrated on his face. She felt comfortable talking to him. She's never felt this way. It was like she already knew him, but couldn't remember. She decided not to overthink it.

She shuffled her feet.

"I should probably get going," she pointed towards the door.

"Of course, sorry to keep you," he waved and turned back.

Both of them walked away from each other, Sebastian slower than Rayne.

Sebastian's head was spinning. As he walked a few steps away from her, he turned back to look at her, but she was gone.
