Chapter 24: Evolving The Ties That Bind
The power I was feeling was spreading, all throughout me. I felt my shell fall off, and two small growths come out my back. I felt my legs get wider, my body get taller. I felt a tail growing from my back and my head changing shape. And this time, I wasn't asleep for it. When we finished, Emilee's look of pleasure was immediately replaced by a look of shock and wonder. "Kilian! It happened!" I ran over to the nearest body of water, and expecting to see Shelgon, I instead saw a Salamence, strong and brave, staring back at me.
Emilee had followed me, and she was clearly as shocked as I was. "I-I can't believe this. I knew it would come sooner than it needed to, but I had no idea it would be now. I-I'm a Salamence." "And to think, that you were only last week a Bagon. Oh, how strange life as a Pokémon can be." "Come on, we should go find everyone else. Wanna be my first passenger?" "Not right now. You should really get used to your new form before flying anyone."
"Yeah, fair point. But, maybe I can mess with everyone! Sporadically fly above them for just a second a few times, make them tense, and then reveal myself." "Sounds good! I'll even play along!" She ran ahead, and once she telepathically told me she found them, I used my Aura to find her, and kept flying around them.
(Keeton's Perspective)
"Come on, guys, we need to get shelter from this rain! Arceus, how does it even rain in a cave?", I asked. "Well, the accumulated droplets on the ceiling just start falling. How hard is that to realize?", Haylee said. "Hey, I don't know how water physics work." Suddenly, we heard a noise, like a Pokémon following us. Elijah scouted the area, and came back with Emilee, dirty and bruised. "Emilee? What happened?", Ellie asked. "I-I don't know, all I know is that I can't find Kilian!"
"Okay, we need to keep going. Keep a look out for Kilian, we can't leave him behind.", Haylee said. As we went further, I felt an odd presence soaring over us constantly, each time for half a second at most. A fierce presence, a strong presence, but also a familiar presence. "Guys, something feels wrong. Don't tell me I'm the only one who has noticed the thing flying above us!" "Of course you aren't Keeton! We've just chosen not to acknowledge it.", Ellie said. "Guys, I feel Kilian's presence nearby!", Emilee said.
"Which way?", Elijah asked. "There, towards the park!", Emilee said while pointing. Elijah flew ahead to find him, but came back scared. "Guys, that's not Kilian!" We chased him to the site, where we saw a shell that looked like Kilian's, but empty! "No! Kilian! Who could have done this?", Haylee yelled. Just then, the thing flying over us dropped down behind us. "I believe, that would be me.", it said. "No! How could you do that to such an innocent child?", Emilee cried. "No reason, it's just fate!"
I ran up and attacked him with a Psycho Cut, only for him to laugh it off and smack me with his tail. Haylee tried using Volt Tackle, but she only did minimal damage to him, and was tossed away. "Elijah and Ellie tried X-Scissor and Leaf Blade respectively, but both were knocked away with a Dragonbreath. Finally, Emilee tried to use Shadow Ball, only for it to be reflected by an Iron Tail. "No, we just can't, beat him.", Haylee said. "No, we have to try! For my friends! And for myself!", I said. I blew on my hand, my breath so cold that crystals of ice started to form on it. I ran for the being, my hand becoming completely encased in ice. My Ice Punch had to beat him, or else nothing could. I punched him in his face, and while I could feel the pain it had caused him, he wasn't out yet.
Enraged, he kicked me in the chest, causing me to slide until I hit the base of the Mega Rayquaza statue. He put his arm on me, pinning me under his weight. "That was a smart move, but you're just not strong enough. How will you stop Gary if you can't beat me with a move I'm quad weak to?" At this point, lighting flashed, and looking into my eyes, I saw the face of a Salamence, green and orange, unlike the usual blue and red. "Wait, you know about Gary, you know about your weaknesses in a trainer's terms, and you're seemingly miscolored! But, it couldn't be! Kilian?" He made a smirk at me, before saying "In the flesh."
"Kilian? But, how? Only 15 minutes ago you were a Shelgon!" "Samantha isn't the only one who can evolve from a kiss!", Emilee said. "But, but, you're only 13! Weren't you in a lot of pain?", I stammered out. "Not at all! I had enough power to hold the energy from my transformation." At this point, Emilee was just laughing her tail off. "Wait, you knew about this?", Ellie asked. "Yep, and it was so worth it!" "You little dastards! Do you know how worried we were?", Elijah asked. "I did! Aura powers, remember?" "That's it, let's return the favor, shall we?", Haylee asked.
"Emilee, get on!", Kilian said. "Now guys, I don't want to be the bad guy here, but if you try to attack us, you may have to walk home, while dragging a Salamence behind you. Do you really want that?" "Okay, you're right, let's go back.", I said. We let Kilian practice flying us on his back for around 30 minutes, before we headed back to the school.
(Back to Kilian's perspective)
At the school, Beatrice and Abigail, who had become a Delphox and a Venusaur in the last week, were waiting for us. "Well, where's the funeral goer? I was hoping to help her get ready!", Beatrice said. "Oh, shut it! Raven's gone now! You don't have to be angry anymore!", I said. "What are you talking about? Our best friend is dead! You think that we wouldn't be angry?", Abigail roared. "Who knows, you guys have always been a mystery. Like why did your friend think she could get away with that?", Keeton asked, in a surprisingly monotone voice.
Abigail grabbed Keeton's legs and hung him up by his legs. "Oh yeah, I never saw that coming. Just like I never knew I could do this." He shut his eyes, took a deep breath, and the vines were instantly cut. "What? Witchcraft! That's my job!", Beatrice yelled. "Yeah, pretty cool, right? I call it the Cuts of Shadows, and I'll be sure to use it."
Abigail had a look of shock unlike anyone had ever seen. "And now, this." Keeton reared his arm back and started yelling. His arm started glowing like he was preparing for a Psycho Cut, but when his arm glowed purple, he kept going, and his arm started to turn green, then blue, then red. When it turned red, he released the attack, which traveled almost twice as fast as a normal Psycho Cut, and was able to knock a 7' tall Venusaur into a wall.
"No, no, get away, demon!", Beatrice said as Keeton approached her. Beatrice started throwing attack after attack, Shadow Ball after Flamethrower at Keeton, who just sliced any attack out of the air. "You know, you act like you're so tough and strong, even though the species you are has set you up for a dethroning from that mentality. Case in point, I can knock you out even with a resisted hit. Kilian, if you will." "Keeton, use Close Combat!"
Keeton's hands started to glow, and he rapidly punched Beatrice, so hard and fast that a ball of light and broken air began to form around her. When he stopped, Beatrice fell, knocked out from the force of the attack. We were all in absolute shock, as we never knew Keeton could act like that. "Wow, Keeton, that was...truly something.", Haylee said. "Sweet, I thought it was pretty good! Maybe I should take up Drama again!"
"Wait, you were faking that?", Elijah asked. "Yeah, I make a pretty good actor, don't I?" "But, the Cuts of Shadows! The red Psycho Cut! Your suddenly monotone and carefree voice! You were faking all that?", Joey asked. "Yep, and it was easy to do so. The 'Cuts of Shadows' are just slices done faster then most eyes can see. The red Psycho Cut was just a normal Psycho Cut that I changed the color of and drug across the ground. And the voice, I just let go of any fear I could have. And thus, you have Demonic Keeton."
It was at this point that everyone's parents started showing up. Elijah and Josh left, Ellie left, Samantha left, Joey and Valerie left, and Haylee left. When mom showed up to pick us up, she nearly screamed when she saw me. "Kilian, is that truly you?" "Yes mom, it's me, Kilian.", I told her. She stared into my eyes, before exclaiming "Arceus above, it is you!"
We ran towards and hugged each other. "I can't believe it! You're a Salamence! Oh, this is wonderful!" "I know it is, and you have Emilee to thank for it. We shared our true first kiss today, and the result is the Salamence you see now." "Well that's interesting. Say Keeton, where's Raven? Didn't she come?" "Yes, she did, but when she accidentally killed another student, she fled for Route 108. We tried to stop her, but we eventually let her go. I don't know where she is anymore."
"Oh, I'm so sorry, Keeton. I know the pain of that. Hop on, guys, we can fly you home." "Wait, we?", Emilee asked. "Yes, Emilee! I'm not going to let Kilian piggyback on me. Come Keeton, I can get you home." Emilee got on me, ready for takeoff. "Ready when you are mom!", I said. We took off and headed for our street. While flying, I could feel Emilee getting sleepier, so I took it slower for her sake. It was about 10:30, so I couldn't blame her. When we landed, I escorted her to her porch. She had fallen asleep at this point, so I had to carry her in my mouth. I rang the doorbell and almost gave her parents a heart attack.
"Kilian? Is that you?", Denice asked. "Yes, Ms. Flareon, it's me. Emilee fell asleep on the flight back here, which is why I have to carry her like a new kill from the hunt." "Kilian, if I may ask, how did you evolve?", Austin asked me. "Well, Emilee and I were in the park, and she was depressed at the fact that we're in different Egg Groups, so I gave her a speech about how even if I can't give her children, I have many other things I can give her. She then asked me to open up the lower half of my shell, and when I did, we shared our first actual kiss, which caused me to evolve."
I looked at Emilee, and though she was asleep, she could clearly hear what we were saying, as she was now smiling in her sleep. "Well, I'll be on my way now. Goodbye!" I began to walk back to my house, but not before Obsi and Carcha leapt on me. "Rawr! I am going to eat you!", Carcha yelled. "Oh no! Then I guess I will have to shake you off!", I said before loosely shaking my body. "Nice try, Salamence, but what happens when you lose your wings?", Obsi yelled before headbutting my left wing. "Hey now, don't do that, I just got those!" They both giggled with delight before laying down on me.
"So, are you gonna be a Salamence forever?", Carcha asked. "Yes, Carcha, Kilian Salamence is here to stay." "Yay! Riding on you is fun!", Obsi said. At this point, we were at home, so they got off of me and ran inside. Ted was waiting for them, ready to tuck them into bed. As he was doing that, mom came up behind me. "So, you ready to get rid of that old bed now?" "I guess, as I don't think a Salamence can fit in it." "Yeah, you are probably not going to have a bed." "Wait, really? How will I sleep?" "Easy! Just curl up like this!", mom said as she demonstrated the proper Salamence sleeping position. "Well, that seems uncomfortable, but if it's correct!"
As I was trying to make the shape that mom was, Ted came up and talked to me. "So, you're finally a Salamence. And at only 13! Less than 2 months into the school year and you've evolved twice already!" "Yeah, it has been a pretty crazy week. But, I need to hit the hay, flying really takes the energy out of you." I tried to go to my room, but I collapsed in the front room.
(Meanwhile, on Route 108)
"Man, that fire must have been vicious! There isn't a single dwelling of any sort here!", I said to myself. My feelings changed from wonder and amazement to guilt and doubt. "Ugh, why did I have to do that to Olivia? I barely even liked Sam, it was just a stupid school dance!" I tried to remove the necklace, but it was conjoined to my skin, unable to be removed. I had made it to the ruins of Rustboro City, and decided to set up camp outside of it. If there was anyone still there, I doubted that they would be friendly. After eating some nearby berries, I fell asleep thinking of who I had hurt, where I had come, and why I had to run.
I woke up in my old neighborhood, on Route 208. I didn't remember much about the place, except. Oh Arceus, why? Why this? I tried to look away, but I was forced to look. I saw my little brother, Daniel. He was newly born, and incredibly curious. But he once wandered into the wrong neck of the neighborhood, and that was happening right now. He was walking, marveling at the sights he saw, but he came across a robbery in progress of a store. He went inside, and tried to give the shopkeeper their phone, but in doing so, the robbers found him. They thought that he had been trying to get them caught, and they killed him. He wasn't even one year old, and he had his whole entire life in front of him, and now he'll never experience it. These thoughts haunted my dream until I woke up.
I woke up, sweat running down my face. I had never had a nightmare like that before, and I hoped it would be the last. I got up, slipped on my mask, and snuck into Rustboro for supplies, only to find it taken over by Gary. A Scolipede saw me and gave chase. I tried to run, but with every passing moment, he just got faster and faster. He eventually cornered me, but didn't kill me. Instead, he moved out of my way for Gary. "Well, well, Raven Gardevoir, it's truly a pleasure." He held the bottom of my necklace. "Good, I see that you got my package. I assume you have had trouble removing it, correct?" "M-maybe, maybe not." "Oh, do you hear that? She's in fear! How adorable! Now, I assume that you have felt the evil tendencies building within you, correct? What with that situation on Monday and yesterday..." I launched a Psybeam at him, and he just sidestepped it and punched me.
"Young lady, it is rude to interrupt other people's sentences! Now, as I was saying, those actions were caused by one of my minions putting them inside you, but not directly. He instead sent you a fake vision, designed to taint your image of your friends and turn you to my side eventually, but now that you're here, I can do it myself!" Gary stuck out two fingers and began making a spiral in the air. The pattern he drew out be traced by energy as he kept going into the spiral. Gary was using Hypnosis!" I tried to close my eyes and look away, but two Ambipom forced me to look. Once the spiral was completed, Gaty said "Now, repeat after me. Hail Gary. Can you do that?" "H-hehh, H-hehh, No! I will not!" "Tsk, tsk, such a rebellious soul. I was hoping to have to do this almost painlessly. Oh wait, no I wasn't! Ephraim, Toxic."
The Scolipede secreted a purple substance and sprayed it on me. I felt my health deteriorating by the second, as Gary kept using Hypnosis. "Now, once again, Hail Gary." "Stick a Wacan Berry in it.", I told him firmly. "Grr, you are quite the rebel. "Ephraim, Venoshock." The Scolipede made a purple puddle of poison around him, before spraying it on me. I knew that if I were to take another one of those, I'd die. I was initially fine with that, but then I remembered. I remembered that if I die here, I'd never see my friends ever again. Gary made one last Hypnosis, one so strong, I couldn't even think about resisting. "Now, one last time, and if you don't do it here, you'll never see your friends and family ever again. Hail Gary. Please? Hail. Gary."
I felt the good in my soul get flushed out, my thoughts of returning to my friends changing to thoughts of conquering and destroying them, and worst of all, I was liking it. I could feel my morality fading, my kindness evaporating, and my heart getting tainted by evil, and I was glad for it. My thoughts were no longer my own, something else was taking me over, changing me into a villain, and I was powerless to stop it. I managed to keep a small part of my humanity locked away before my mind became taken over, so that I may return to the light one day, but until such moment comes, I was now a villain. I looked Gary in the eyes, and smiled, before saying my first words as a reborn villain.
"Hail Gary."
