"One last time"
A girl with purple hair was walking in a hurry up the stairs of the Palace of the Pokemon League, in her mind she kept nervousness and doubt. The night before, she had fought one of the members of the Elite Four, the accident occupant, Grimsley. Grimsley had managed to unleash the fury in the girl who dominated dragons, and since Catleya told her that the champion wanted to see her she had not stopped fearing the worst, surely, her old friend just wanted to scold her or perhaps in the worst case remove her as Opelucid City gym leader and return her grandfather Drayden to the job.
Iris hastened her pace even more when she reached the lower entrance of the Palace, seeing the immense room of black columns that was more than 15 meters high.
-You wanted to see me?- Iris mentioned as she walked into the majestic black room with fleeting white lights. As she climbed the stairs, only one question hovered in her mind and everything about her attitude the day before with Grimsley worried her.
-I know you've been busy Iris, sorry for making you come so early in the morning- A sincere apology and a serene face could see Iris when she reached the last step, facing a white throne that was empty and next to it sitting on one of the wing-shaped arms was the current league champion Touko.
-What do you need, Champion?- Iris's voice made the opposite laugh softly as she only limited herself to looking at nothing in front of her without changing the position she was in. -Touko?
The girl dressed in pink questioned the lost in thought, it was rare to see her like this. Although to be honest for two years the girl who had been crowned champion changed a lot, since that battle that she had no one saw once again a radiant smile on Touko, much less felt love for battles, each challenger in the league noticed that and the challenges began to decrease, everyone was afraid to fight someone so tough.
Iris herself was afraid at times, it is as if her friend was transported to another place as if she wanted to unleash an uncontrollable fury with the wrong person. But she ... she knew the champion's motives. Still, from that day on, she served her faithfully as her right hand.
-I want to give you a warning- The serious tone that the brunette used invaded fear to the girl who took a step forward waving her hands nervously trying to explain something that had not even been questioned.
-I don't know what you heard, but the person who started it all was Grimsley, saying such things ab- The purple haired girl's nervousness subsided in surprise when for the first time the other gaze found hers, clarifying what had happened before she arrived at the place.
-Grimsley has resigned early in the morning- Touko's neutral voice accompanied her gaze that returned fixed to the ground as she looked at the pokeballs on her belt and the Dark Stone that was also resting there, for a long time, although nobody knew it.
-You're kidding right?- Iris couldn't help but let out a high pitched laugh trying to give herself hope about the opposite even though she knew her attitude was serious.
- I need a favor from you, only you can do it- Iris's eyes were dazzled when she heard those words, the ones that she had been waiting for a long time but anyway, hopes were in vain again even though she didn't know it at that time.
-Whatever you ask of me!- Joy overflowed in the brunette's feminine tone as she placed a hand on her chest relieved that she did not scold her for her attitude the night before. -Grimsley will pay for his lack of respect!-
-Shhh, talk less- A fixed look from Touko with her index finger touching her lips giving a sad smile was more than enough for the impulsive Iris to shut up for a second and stare at her superior. -I need you to stay in this place- Touko asked openly and again a smile was painted on Iris.
-Of course! You can go after him and punish him for his actions openly and-!
Again the purple one was interrupted by the words accompanied by a smile from the brown haired girl.
-No, he is resigning so he can come for this position- Touko said seriously looking at her throne and then at her partner who just laughed
-Ha! You will make him swallow dirt easily like everyone else! I wish him luck! - Iris was that she did not fit in annoyance with Grimsley and her mockery was more than obvious although Touko did not blame her for that, but she was not in favor either. Grimsley's opinion mattered as well and seemed to match someone she had known well for two years.
Touko caressed the Dark Stone trying to obtain courage and organize her ideas and then look with total determination and peace at her listening. -I'm stepping down, I'll no longer be the champion
-Sorry. What? - Iris's bewilderment couldn't be greater, the person she came to admire the most after her grandfather was now resigning ... Did everything go wrong?
-One last time, do you want to have a battle with me? - A smile painted on Touko's face slowly approached the incredulous brown-eyed young woman -Let's take a break and fight one last time, Iris.
-No! Touko, what are you doing ?! - The one in the pink dress couldn't take it anymore, she was going to say her opinion and explode even if the person in front of her was her admired friend.
-I want to show you a new formula, something that has been difficult for me to discover- Touko maintained her calm pose as she headed to one end of the battlefield.
-Champion, with Grimsley trying to take away your place and the new reappearance of the Team Plas-
-I want to warn you not to look for it- clarified the champion looking once more at who there was no room in anger and doubt.
-But!- Iris tried to claim, tried to expose what she considered the truth but Touko, she also for once wanted to be selfish.
-Take out your first pokemon, a battle of five, let's fight- Once again Touko asked but without waiting for an answer and taking a Lucario out of his pokeball who was looking determined at his opponent, Iris had no choice but to imitate her and take out an Axew -I want to show you what I learned, what I have lived and what I felt.
-As long as no one beats you, you must stay in command!- Iris erupted in complaints but they easily passed through the smile of real emotion that she saw for the first time in her partner. What was Touko thinking? What she felt? Didn't she really want that position ...?
-No!- Touko gave a challenging look and without warning her Lucario launched a dragon pulse weakening Iris's Axew, who had no choice but to pick him up and store him in her pokeball while biting the inside of her angry cheek. Touko for the first time in two years would be selfish.
***
After an arduous battle, a young woman with disheveled and messy purple hair was panting on the floor, next to her strongest pokemon, Haxorus, and several holes of the marks of the attacks throughout the room.
Iris, had lost, and her opponent had just used three of her pokemon, a Serperior, a Lucario and a shiny Zoroark that no one knew how she could have found it. The girl who was on the floor reorganizing her ideas and catching her breath could see out of the corner of her eye some black boots with pink soles standing up and a hand extended in front of her face.
-Good fight, Iris- When she looked up her eyes saw how a bright smile was on Touko, she couldn't help but shed a tear.
-Touko ...- Iris was trying to expose something she couldn't when, without warning, she was surrounded by two thin arms as she stroked her head.
-Iris, I need you to stay here. I only can trust you to take care of the league in my absence. There are issues that I must resolve, people that I must see, and find myself again. When all that happens, I promise you that I'll be back- And just like that, the caresses stopped and Touko got up, lifting Iris with her and giving her one last hug and then taking out her Braviary and riding him. -Until then Iris, farewell
Touko smiled as she said the same phrase that was guilty of her nightmares and a weight fell from her mind. His Braviary ran at full speed and took flight out of the league leaving behind an Iris who smiled despite her tears. Determination sometimes pushed people forward, and her friend Touko had finally regained hers.
-Wait wherever you are N, there is a Phoenix that has just been reborn from its ashes and is going to chase you- was the only thing the one who now played the role of champion said as she turned towards the throne.
