Chapter 3 : Memories About You

Darlin' hold me in your arms
The way you did last night And we'll die inside For a little while here

" You.. what?! Hyung , you really are crazy."

Mingyu gently massaged his temples, feeling dizzy from the series of sentences he had just heard on the phone. "I can't, hyung . I can't go there today – well , even if you keep insisting that it's only a few blocks from the hospital but still, I can't leave the hospital. What? Jihoon Hyung is furious?"

Someone over the phone whimpered and Mingyu felt that this one Hyung really didn't live up to his age as a 23 year old grown man. He whined like a 5 year old.

" Hyung , Hyung ?!" Right after the whining stopped, the man on the other end of the line ended the call. Mingyu growled in annoyance.

"What is it?"

Mingyu was surprised when he found Wonwoo beside him, sitting on a waiting chair along the balcony in front of his patient's room. Since when was he there?

"You have to go?"

Actually Mingyu didn't have to go anywhere today. "Hmm.. do you remember Jihoon Hyung ?"

Wonwoo nodded quickly and Mingyu smiled. Mingyu could see the confusion in the man's eyes because Mingyu didn't answer his question and instead asked something.

"Jihoon Hyung's friend , Kwon Soonyoung -you may have heard his name, Jihoon once called it in front of you - moving house." Mingyu paused to take a deep breath, sometimes he didn't understand the strange things that Kwon Soonyoung was planning in his life. "He moved to the area around this hospital –he said it is just a few blocks, five minutes walk from this hospital. Okay, that's not a problem – he could even go to the south poles and I don't care. The problem now is that Jihoon Hyung is mad at him."

"Why is Jihoon mad at Soonyoung?"

Wonwoo chuckled, he seemed interested in this conversation. It was clear from how his eyes were sparkling while looking at Mingyu.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Mingyu felt tired just to explain how strange his two friends were. "Soonyoung is an aspiring prosecutor. He will start working at a government's office next week. And that office is located about 10 km from his house now."

"Wow." Wonwoo stared at Mingyu in disbelief. He muttered something like, "Then why did he move house to... ah ." But then he closed his mouth and an understanding appeared on his face. Mingyu didn't understand what Wonwoo understood.

"He really is stupid, isn't he? Why did he choose to live near this hospital? So inefficient. Anyway, whatever the reason, now Jihoon is there and he is fuming. Soonyoung Hyung called and told me to come there right now, he asked me to help with the moving house thingy and at the same time tried to calm Lee Jihoon because the man wouldn't stop nagging. And of course I can't do that."

Wonwoo's brow furrowed and the look on his face showed displeasure. "Why can't you do it? Go, Kim Mingyu. You don't have to be around me all the time. You also have a life."

Now it's Mingyu's turn to frown because he didn't like whatever he just heard.

"You want to come?" Mingyu also knew this offer sounded crazy, but at least Soonyoung's house was very close to the hospital. Compared to this offer, their activities yesterday were far more risky.

"Hmmm.. will I be a bother? After all, I'm like an uninvited guest if I show up there?"

"I don't think so, Jeon Wonwoo. Lee Jihoon himself said he wanted to introduce Soonyoung to you. I think Jihoon Hyung will be pleased with your appearance."

Wonwoo looked doubtful, but Mingyu just needed to wait for the man to feel confident about himself. When that conviction kicked in, he smiled and his eyes glow again, warm enough to make Mingyu smile too. Whatever he thought, he felt happy about it. And Mingyu already realized yesterday, whatever makes Wonwoo happy also makes him happy. As simple as that.

So here they were -10 minutes later, in a lofty building that had very narrow and steep stairs. To hell, Kwon Soonyoung's house was also on the highest place, Mingyu could even say it was on the roof of this building. Mingyu couldn't stop himself from worrying about Wonwoo as they climbed the narrow stairs to the top of the house.

" Hyung !" Mingyu deliberately raised his voice when they reached the roof. He wanted to show at least with his voice that he was quite annoyed with his Hyung . It didn't take long, someone came out of the door and Mingyu was a little surprised to see him.

"Wow, your hair? You dyed your hair black again?"

Soonyoung laughed and walked over to Mingyu, hugging his friend like they hadn't seen each other in 10 years. "A prosecutor would look ridiculous with blonde hair."

Mingyu was sure he heard Jihoon's voice coming from behind Soonyoung's body. "You always look ridiculous and stupid no matter what color your hair is –and hey, you brought someone."

From the corner of his eye, Mingyu could see Wonwoo smiling at Jihoon's warm welcome. Soonyoung let go of Mingyu's hug and only then did he really pay attention to the person beside his friend.

"Are you Jeon Wonwoo? Jihoonie keeps talking about you?"

Wonwoo nodded slightly. "I hope Jihoon doesn't say anything bad about me."

It was a normal comment, but when Wonwoo said it, it sounded funny. Mingyu wouldn't be surprised if Soonyoung and Jihoon laughed about it. Mingyu found himself smiling broadly.

"Kwon Soonyoung, nice to meet you."

Soonyoung reached out his hand and Wonwoo shook it quickly. For one or two reasons, they seemed like old friends reunited. And Mingyu wasn't talking about himself and Wonwoo, by the way.

"So, Mingyu brought one more volunteer to help me move today? Very good."

Mingyu remembered their original purpose for coming here and glared slightly at the thought that Wonwoo would be forced to work hard against his will. But on the other hand, Wonwoo was actually very excited and without Mingyu realizing, the two of them had disappeared from his sight – Soonyoung pulled the man into his house. Mingyu glanced at Jihoon and the man shook his head apologetically.

It seemed Jihoon forgot to tell Soonyoung that Wonwoo is a patient.

"When are you going to tell me what exactly the disease Wonwoo has and what you do there?"

Mingyu just shook his head slightly in response. Not now, not yet. He didn't want to tell other people about Wonwoo when the possibility of Wonwoo hearing what he said was quite high. And Jihoon understood that, he just nodded a little and started to go inside.

Soonyoung's house wasn't very big, but it's perfect for a single guy who's likely to stay at his office most of the time. Upon entering, Mingyu frowned slightly when it was not even 50 centimeters between his head and the ceiling. Jihoon violated Mingyu's superior height and Mingyu felt that there was some truth in that man's words. This house still looked very empty. There was only a long sofa in the living room and when he turned from the living room he could find a refrigerator in a room with lots of mirrors – this must be the kitchen. There was only one room and one bathroom but it was slightly bigger than Mingyu had originally expected. Then he found another room that looked like a warehouse and it's done. There's no more room left here. Although not too big, this house looked very comfortable to live in. If only it wasn't 10 km away from where he is going to work, Mingyu would also want to live here.

After observing the house, Soonyoung had pulled them all to work . Mingyu said clearly and in an undeniable tone that Wonwoo wasn't allowed to go back and forth to pick up Soonyoung's stuff. He is only allowed inside the house. Soonyoung seemed to be curious why Mingyu was so serious when he said this and Jihoon quickly pulled the boy down before he could find an answer to his curiosity. Wonwoo looked at Mingyu disapprovingly and Mingyu didn't care. He didn't want to tire the man too much, but he knew Wonwoo didn't want to sit around and made things uncomfortable. Instead, Mingyu handed Wonwoo a can of paint and the man smiled again.

Wonwoo likes to play with paint and colors – he used to be.

Mingyu immediately followed his two friends down and he sighed when he met again with these damn stairs. A tiring day is about to begin.

***

"Mingyu, what do you want to do for a living?"

Mingyu laughed and turned his head to the side. He found Wonwoo staring at the clear sky above them. He seemed to be contemplating something deeply.

"A good sentence to replace the boring 'What is your goal?'." Mingyu followed what Wonwoo was doing. Staring at the sky filled with white cotton. It felt really relaxing.

"I want to be a doctor."

Wonwoo looked shocked one second, then he chuckled the next. It seemed like the image of Mingyu in a white suit really doesn't match. Mingyu couldn't help but feel annoyed.

"Why do you want to be a doctor?"

Why? Sometimes, Mingyu also wondered to himself.

"Doctors make a lot of money." The comment was random, but Wonwoo wasn't provoked.

"The same goes for the tax officers."

"Hmm.. you're right. Money is a cliché excuse. But the real reason is a bit complicated, Hyung." Mingyu took a breath and his eyes now fell on the snail that was walking slowly near his shoes.

"I want to see how far miracles in this world can go." Mingyu sounded a little weird this time – even to his own ears.

"You.. what?"

But even though it was strange, he meant it. " Miracles , I want to see many miracles in my life. Like a patient recovering from a long-standing illness, that kind of a miracle. A miracle that brings a lot of hope."

Mingyu turned his head and saw Wonwoo staring at him in awe. But then the man looked back up at the cloudy sky, he was still smiling when he did that. "Not all patients always end up returning home cured, Kim Mingyu. I don't want to destroy your imagination, but there are also many patients who have to leave this world because of their illness." Wonwoo paused for a moment, again appearing to be pondering something deeply. "Hmm.. I really want to see you in a doctor's gown – can I see it?" Wonwoo was talking to himself. Mingyu didn't understand why he questioned that, of course they would remain friends and be together until the day Mingyu had his own doctor's gown.

"But Kim Mingyu, thank you for saying that."

"What?"

Wonwoo looked at him one more time.

"Thank you for saying that you believe in miracles as well as hope."

***

The sun had already set long ago when they all finished their 'Help Kwon Soonyoung Move House' activities. Mingyu didn't know that this activity was really draining, he had to lift a lot of heavy objects like mattresses and then move them into the house. Those damn stairs were not very helpful. Soonyoung forced Jihoon to stop helping him after 3 hours –despite strong protests but in the end Soonyoung won the argument, so the man ended up painting the wall with Wonwoo.

Even though he looked busy with his stuff, Mingyu secretly watched Wonwoo. The man seemed happy with whatever he was doing – especially after Jihoon joined, they were throwing jokes and chatting to each other. Mingyu saw them having a serious discussion when they were going to color the walls of Soonyoung's room – Jihoon won the argument because the man knew what the owner of that room's favorite color was. Wonwoo looked funny because his suggestion of green was rejected – green is good for eyes, he argued. But then he laughed.

Mingyu found Wonwoo's laugh again today and Mingyu was happy to see it. Unfortunately he forgot the fact that painting a house was also energy draining. Mingyu felt guilty for making Wonwoo work so hard till he fell asleep while they were waiting for the food to come –Soonyoung ordered jjajangmyeon and Chinese food as a reward for their hard work.

When he smelled food, Wonwoo woke up and he joined them on the floor for his food. While eating, they all chatted and joked around a lot. Mingyu was happy because Jihoon and Soonyoung made Wonwoo feel like home. He promised that he would often take Wonwoo out with his two friends if circumstances allowed. It seemed the idea of the four of them playing together at the amusement park yesterday was quite fun.

After finishing with the food, Soonyoung turned on his flat TV and they all ended up watching a drama that Jihoon really liked lately –he squealed with joy when he finally got to watch the drama again after being stuck in the ICU for so long because of his internship. At that time Mingyu chose to distract himself from Soonyoung and Jihoon because they seemed to be immersed in their own world. Sometimes Mingyu wondered, are they only just friends?

He tried not to answer his own question and turned his attention to Wonwoo. The man fell asleep again, seeing Wonwoo's uncomfortable sleeping position, Mingyu positioned the man's body so that now his head was resting on Mingyu's thighs. Luckily they were already up on the couch after finishing their meal. So that they had this sofa to themselves. Wonwoo muttered something in his sleep and Mingyu smiled at him.

Mingyu himself was almost asleep when Jihoon and Soonyoung didn't make a sound anymore. There were only voices from the TV, and they sounded like a lullaby to him.

"Gyu, looks like we all have to stay here tonight." Soonyoung's voice brought him back to his senses.

Mingyu nodded. "Hmm. Carrying Wonwoo down the stairs of your horrible house sure looks dangerous."

"That's right, and you, Lee Jihoon. You sleep here too." Mingyu smiled at Soonyoung's forced tone and it seemed like Jihoon was too tired today to argue with the man because he just nodded quickly.

"But before we all fall asleep, I want to talk to you, Gyu. Outside?" Jihoon instructed Mingyu to follow him to the roof terrace outside Soonyoung's house. Mingyu just moved Wonwoo's head carefully, and almost fell over when he tried to stand up because his leg muscles were very stiff– he only realized when he felt it. Luckily Soonyoung held him back.

"Okay, I'll also get some beers and join you on the terrace."

With that the three of them left the house, leaving Wonwoo who had been in his dreamland alone on the couch. He seemed calm and peaceful the last time Mingyu saw him before he left.

Jihoon and Mingyu sat on the rattan table that Soonyoung had brought here for some reason. Jihoon deliberately didn't start the conversation, because he was waiting for Soonyoung. They just silently stared at the sky full of stars for almost 10 minutes. Soonyoung came back with a plastic bag and started passing the beer cans around. Mingyu opened his first can and took a big gulp of the drink. He forgot the last time he drank this kind of drink – maybe when he was stressed preparing for his final exams last semester.

"Wonwoo.. he is my old friend, a friend who means a lot to me. And I met him again after five years only to find out that he forgot about my existence." Mingyu was silent. He had never actually said this to anyone. And even to his own ears, he sounded really sad. "He forgot me not because he wanted to, he has dementia which, according to his father, cannot be cured."

Jihoon and Soonyoung stared at him deeply, their expressions unreadable. But Mingyu knew they were feeling sad –just like him. Then he told all the stories about the men named Kim Mingyu and Jeon Wonwoo. About them in the past and them in the present. It was quite a long story, he realized when he started to open the sixth can at the end of his story.

The two friends didn't say anything after that and Mingyu really appreciated it. Right now he just needed a listener. Mingyu only felt Soonyoung's light pat on his shoulder and Jihoon who nodded slightly while looking at him.

"He can be cured, Kim Mingyu. And you said it yourself, now he has remembered who you are. Isn't that a good thing?" Jihoon commented in the end.

"Yes, Hyung . I hope you're right. Everyone is praying for his recovery."

"You have to stay by his side, Gyu. He needs someone to stand by him more than anything. Don't leave him alone." Mingyu smiled a little even though his mind and heart felt chaotic, he smiled because a serious tone really didn't suit Kwon Soonyoung.

"We will also visit you often in the hospital." The man continued in a steady tone.

"Just say you want to meet Jihoon Hyung ."

Jihoon rolled his eyes and opened his first can of beer, unlike himself and Soonyoung who were about to get drunk any minute. Jihoon still looked sane and alert.

"You are right! I'll meet Jihoonie first, then invite him to meet you and Wonwoo together." Mingyu liked the idea, so he gave Soonyoung a thumbs up.

Mingyu didn't know what time it was, but when he and Soonyoung finished their drinks he saw that the night was too dark. Jihoon forced them into the house and Mingyu immediately dropped his body on the sofa -next to Wonwoo. He couldn't remember afterwards – whether Wonwoo woke up because of him and where Jihoon and Soonyoung fell asleep that night.

When he woke up, he saw Jihoon and Soonyoung sleeping on the floor. There were lots of pillows and bed covers around them so Mingyu didn't have to feel sorry about having to occupy the couch alone. Wait, not alone. He looked to his side and Wonwoo was still asleep, his body so close to his. The man still looked peaceful and calm.

Mingyu swears this was the best morning in the 22 years he's been alive. He wanted to have mornings like this for the rest of his life even though he wasn't sure what the reason behind his wish was. Maybe Wonwoo's existence itself was the reason for everything he wanted.

***

For they're designed to be together
With your body next to mine Our hearts will beat as one And we set alight We're afire love

Everything was going fast, Mingyu didn't realize that he only had one month left. In exactly one month he had to return to his medical student routine and to be honest he didn't want this time to end. He liked being around Wonwoo, even though it was quite hard at first but he didn't refuse if he had to repeat his time here.

Wonwoo looked healthier day by day, he always remembers Mingyu and whatever they did in the previous days. Several times Wonwoo even reminded Mingyu to call his sister at home and ask if Minji had eaten. Sometimes Mingyu felt Wonwoo didn't have that cursed disease called dementia. Because everything seemed fine, he was healthy, remembered everything, and was happy. Even Wonwoo could have his own time now. Every day after he woke up, he asked whoever was guarding his room to find breakfast or at least left the room for an hour. Wonwoo said he wanted to have an hour with himself and everyone who accompanied him tried to understand that even though they were hesitant at first –Mingyu was the same way. But Wonwoo proved that he wouldn't let down anyone who put his trust in him, he never did anything strange during that hour by himself. He even looked more confident when the hour was over.

Jihoon and Soonyoung visited often and Wonwoo never once forgot them. Jihoon said this was a sign of progress in the man's psychological condition.

Soonyoung started his job as a prosecutor a few weeks ago and he seemed like a robot day by day – he had a lot of work! Jihoon was still a sleep-deprived intern doctor, but now whenever he had free time or time off he would come to Wonwoo's room and fall asleep there. He said the sofa in Wonwoo's room was much more comfortable as a bed than the mattress in his room –and Mingyu agreed with this opinion. Since it was Jihoon who was in Wonwoo's room almost every night, Soonyoung would also drop by after work and bring some delicious food which made Wonwoo look really happy. Then he would fall asleep here too –as if his house which was only a few blocks from the hospital never existed. One day Mingyu couldn't take it anymore and bought a folding bed and brought it to Wonwoo's room because Jihoon was constantly invading his bed – the soft couch. Wonwoo's room would end up looking like a refugee barracks and the man looked strangely happy –that's the reason why no nurse or doctor has banned this unconventional action.

Seeing how happy and healthy Wonwoo was. Mingyu began to believe what the man's father said; Wonwoo needed a friend more than anything. He needed people who were always by his side when he faced his illness.

Unfortunately, Jeon Seongwoo just disappeared. The reason why Jihoon and Soonyoung could stay here almost every night was because Mingyu was always by Wonwoo's side for almost 24 hours. Mingyu never really blamed it because 1) he really didn't have any meaningful activities outside with Wonwoo, 2) last week his parents came back to Seoul and Mingyu told them everything about his activities at the hospital and also about Wonwoo, they seemed very agree with whatever Mingyu did and instead told his son to stay in the hospital –they also sent greetings to Wonwoo and apologized for not being able to visit him because they had to go back abroad the next day, 3) Minji's school holidays have ended, that meant she back to living in the dormitory –Mingyu didn't have to worry about that kid who lived alone at home, 4) he really liked being in the hospital, he liked being around Wonwoo. It's not about work and money that Jeon Seongwoo sent to his account, never was. Now being with Wonwoo was a part of his life and he didn't want anything missing from his everyday life.

Only this morning, Jeon Seongwoo showed his nose again at the hospital. He met Mingyu first before entering Wonwoo's room, he apologized for everything that happened and told him a news that made Mingyu almost fall off his chair. The man fell in love with his secretary and will marry again in the near future. Mingyu didn't know how to react when he heard this news. He was annoyed, but to be honest he had no right to do so – he was nobody. It's just that, the image of that man two months ago, sitting in the same chair as them now made him want to punch the man – even though it was very impolite, he knew. Two months ago, he seemed very sad while telling his story about Wonwoo and his mother. He also seemed like a hopeless man because the only child he loved very much had an incurable disease. Mingyu snorted – it seemed Seongwoo heard it, humans are a very easy species to change.

Mingyu kept his mouth shut and to be honest he couldn't be with Wonwoo now. Not when he had to see the expression on the man's face when he heard that his father, who was usually always by his side and seemed to still love his mother, was going to remarry in the near future. Maybe like Mingyu, Wonwoo will realize that Jeon Seongwoo's absence has been caused by his future wife.

When Jeon Seongwoo walked into the room. Something happened beyond Mingyu's prediction, Wonwoo didn't recognize the man. He only glanced at Mingyu and through his eyes he asked who was the man Mingyu brought in. Wonwoo looked really confused and Mingyu immediately led Jeon Seongwoo out of the room. The man also looked shocked because this seemed to be the first time Wonwoo had completely forgotten about him –not even a hint of anything reflected on Wonwoo's face indicated he recognized this man. Jeon Seongwoo was still petrified at the door, while Mingyu chose to go back into the room. There he saw Wonwoo staring out the window – Wonwoo's old habit was back and for some reason Mingyu felt scared.

"Wonwoo?"

The man didn't look at Mingyu, but he answered him. "That man earlier, I am really sorry for forgetting him."

It was then that Mingyu felt his heart skip a beat. Wonwoo is still sick, he's still like Wonwoo at the beginning of their meeting. Maybe without realizing it, maybe the man's illness was getting worse. Now Mingyu thought back to what Wonwoo had been through since that day. He did remember about himself, about Jihoon and Soonyoung. But every day he became quieter even though his face was cheerful, he just laughed more often than he spoke. Sometimes he looked like he wanted to say something but then he discouraged it as if he didn't know what word to use to represent what he wanted to talk about. Wonwoo was starting to forget the way he spoke in long sentences. Wonwoo has been asking Mingyu more and more about the time and lately he's even been asking where he is now –and since Wonwoo was always laughing afterward, Mingyu feels like he's joking. Besides that, Mingyu didn't think of this as a sign that the man's illness was getting worse, because he didn't think it was that complicated. But Wonwoo often asked Mingyu to choose clothes for him and also feed him. Now that he thought about it, Wonwoo couldn't live without the help of others. The man was completely dependent on him. Mingyu knew those are the characteristics of middle dementia patients . Mingyu really couldn't imagine Wonwoo not being able to speak at all, unable to walk, and eventually fall into a coma if his disease has entered the late dementia stage . Unknowingly, tears flowed from the corners of his eyes as that image suddenly appeared before him. Mingyu was hallucinating but why did everything seem so real?

That's not going to happen, Kim Mingyu. It will never happen.

Mingyu shook his head, trying to wipe away the traces of tears. Wonwoo saw this but he just kept silent and looked back at the window.

It's been a tough day for Mingyu. Jeon Seongwoo chose to leave to calm down –and Mingyu didn't care about that man now. Jihoon and Soonyoung reappeared in Wonwoo's room and it was supposed to be cheerful as usual, even Wonwoo was laughing. But not for Mingyu, he felt something heavy really squeezing his chest so all he could feel was tightness. He even asked permission to go out to find the wind that night.

For the second time, Mingyu drove his Volvo at a fast speed. He didn't know where to go, he just felt the need to calm himself down. And he was a coward because he felt he didn't want to see Wonwoo for at least that night. He sent Jihoon a message saying he was going home and he asked Jihoon to accompany Wonwoo. After the message was sent, Mingyu turned off his cellphone and threw it on the backseat. Actually he didn't come home, Mingyu didn't know where he was and his car broke down because it ran out of gas. He had been driving this car for three hours without really having a clear destination. Now he could only see a large lake in front of his car and looking around, Mingyu and his car were surrounded by tall weeds that looked especially scary at night. But that kind of fear had absolutely no effect on him, not when he had just seen how Wonwoo lay in a coma – even if only in his imagination.

Mingyu didn't know what he was doing here and it seemed that it was already too late when he arrived so now he felt tired and sleepy. He fell asleep in his car moments later.

As consciousness returned to him, he heard the sound of rain – heavy enough to wake Mingyu up. He looked up at the sky and it seemed that the night had ended long enough. When he realized that, Mingyu felt like a complete loser last night. What he did was not much different from the behavior of boys during puberty who run away from home because they don't want to be scolded by their mother. He ran away from Wonwoo. And Wonwoo didn't deserve that kind of behavior.

Remembering Wonwoo made Mingyu miss that man, and the desire to return to Jeon Wonwoo was so high. He had to go back to the hospital and see Wonwoo – he hoped things would get better when that happened, because to be honest waking up alone among the weeds in an unknown place while feeling guilty was never a good thing.

Mingyu remembered that his car was not in the condition of helping him to go back to Wonwoo and for the first time Mingyu left his car alone. He can take care of it later. After grabbing his wallet and cell phone, Mingyu got out of his car and left his body soaked as the rain was getting heavier. Mingyu ran out onto the highway and looked for a taxi in the rain – which he found half an hour later while walking. Mingyu added more money for the taxi because he felt guilty for wetting the seats after he arrived at the hospital. It took him two hours to get back to where Wonwoo was, only to find there was no trace of the man in his room.

Mingyu screamed like a madman asking where Wonwoo was at the nurse on duty. The nurse said Wonwoo was in his room and not going anywhere. Mingyu felt like he was crazy after hearing those words – he scolded the nurse out loud when actually he was the one to be scolded here. After being satisfied with venting his emotions, Mingyu returned to Wonwoo's room, he felt he needed Jihoon's help –Mingyu turned on his cell phone.

While waiting for his phone to turn on, something caught Mingyu's attention. He walked over to the whiteboard on Wonwoo's side of the bed and turned it around. He didn't realize that all this time it had been upside down –unlike the last time when he brought it here. It was at that moment, Mingyu felt his heart drop out of his ribs. Behind the whiteboard he saw everything that made him understand why Wonwoo had been remembering everything about him –he really wanted to remember him.

Behind the whiteboard, there are dozens of sticky notes neatly attached. There was Wonwoo's handwriting on each sheet – the further down the sticky notes, the harder for him to read the handwriting. It was then that Mingyu realized that Wonwoo had also lost his ability to write. But that wasn't what made Mingyu almost cry. The thing that hurt Mingyu the most when he saw all the sticky notes was the fact that everything on them was about him.

Mingyu is my old best friend, don't ever forget him again

Mingyu can't use his right hand, he's left-handed

Mingyu has two close friends who are also my friends, Lee Jihoon – who is short- and Kwon Soonyoung – whose cheeks are chubby

Mingyu's younger sister is Kim Minji

Mingyu loves to eat, save some of your food for him – he's always hungry

Mingyu is a medical student, I hope one day he can find a cure for dementia

Mingyu stopped what he was doing because he heard someone enter the room. He hoped it's Wonwoo, so he turned around quickly. Disappointment hit him when all he saw was a janitor.

"The patient in this room, every morning when he was alone...he always read the writings on the whiteboard over and over again. Sometimes he also read it aloud even though he seemed to have difficulty doing it, he seemed to be trying hard to remember it all. Sometimes I wonder who Mingyu is."

Mingyu just smiled, a smile that didn't reach his eyes. All he really wanted to do was cry. Maybe for Wonwoo, Mingyu was his world. Mingyu was the only thing he wanted to remember, something so meaningful that he even fought his own illness just for Kim Mingyu. Wonwoo knew giving up would be much easier, but he wanted to fight for his memory of Kim Mingyu and took the hard way. And what did Mingyu do for him? He ran away.

"Hyung ."

"KIM MINGYU! Where have you been? Did you know Wonwoo cried last night?!" Mingyu staggered backwards hearing the information Jihoon gave him as soon as he picked up Mingyu's call.

"Why was he crying?" Mingyu asked weakly.

"I didn't know for sure. Soonyoung suddenly had to go back to the office and I also had to go back to the ICU because there was an emergency code – last night there was a series of accidents on the highway and all the victims were rushed to this hospital. Wonwoo says it's okay if we leave him. Due to the emergency situation, we couldn't do anything other than leave him." Jihoon took a breath, Mingyu could hear from the man's voice that he was tired –maybe he hadn't really slept until now. "This morning when my work was done, I came back to Wonwoo's room and found him crying alone. I asked what was wrong and he said nothing."

Wonwoo was always like that, Mingyu knew more than anyone. Wonwoo was always silent when he felt sad and disappointed.

"This is just my guess, Kim Mingyu. You have to go back to the hospital immediately, you have to meet Wonwoo before that man thinks any further."

Mingyu felt it again – his heart stopped beating in one beat. He felt his vision blurry and he needed something to support his body. He had that bad feeling coming back. "What do you mean, Hyung ?"

"Wonwoo... he may think you've left him."
