Big Fun

"Dad says "Act our age." You heard the man, it's time to rage! Blast the bass, turn out the light Ain't nobody home tonight! Drink, smoke, it's all cool Let's get naked in my pool! Punch the wall and start a fight! Ain't nobody home tonight!" We arrived at the party within minutes of leaving the school. The lawn was randomly dotted with cars including a cherry red Porsche which I believe belonged to one of three certain girls. The front door was swung open and hanging on one hinge. What I assumed to be a couch was sitting in a vacant spot on the lawn, was covered in angsty, sexually active teens. David and I approached the garage which was slightly less full of people. In the center of the dirty garage, was a light blue kiddie pool full of ice and every alcohol you could imagine. I grabbed the last can of cherry coke from the watered down pool and advanced toward the door into the kitchen. I turned around to say something to David, but found he was no longer behind me. Instead I found Hannah sitting on an armchair in the crowded living room. I sat down on the floor next to her red solo cup. It smelled fruity but I didn't bother with the makeshift liquor cabinet. Though at some point that night I realized I was drinking from a mason jar, not a can, a mix of coke vanilla and cherry vodka. "You were invited too?" I asked her, taking another drink of the cocktail. "Yeah so was Rach, but she thought the smell of alcohol was overwhelming so she left. Now it's me and you assuming you don't leave." She swished her cup around and took another swig. "I can't leave you here. Not like this." She laughed at the thought of walking home drunk and the rest of the night went much the same. By the time I was ready to leave, almost everyone else was gone. The red Porsche was still on the lawn but the girls, whose names I had learned were Rose, Piper, and Selene, were nowhere to be found. Hannah and I were still laughing hysterically at corny jokes and drunk girls singing karaoke. "Hey," I said to Hannah, who was wiping tears from her eyes. "I'm gonna go." I got up from the shag carpeting and dusted off my jeans. "No!" She shouted. I coaxed her back into the chair. "You said you wouldn't leave me here while I was like this. You know I can't legally drive for two reasons." I sighed and helped her up. She put her arm around my neck and sluggishly walked through the still open front door. Even though she lived in the next town over, I decided Mom and Dad would understand if I walked a drunk friend home. We began the walk along Interstate 4. She fell asleep most of the trip until we stopped at a twenty four hour 7-11. I went inside with her arm still slung over my shoulder and propped her up against the clear plastic doors of the freezer section. I walked the linoleum floors till I reached the Slurpee machine. I grabbed the extra large striped cup and filled it up halfway with frozen Mountain Dew and the other half with Blue Raspberry Fanta. Then I walked across the aisle to the food heaters. I grabbed a paper bag and the metal tongs and put two spicy empanadas in the bag. I folded the bag closed, and brought them and the slurpee up to the nasty white counter. The cashier, a tattooed blonde with colored streaks in her hair, popped her gum and said "7.80 dude." I pulled out a ten from my wallet and handed it to her. She punched some buttons, gave me the change, and went back to filing her nails. I slid down next to Hannah who was already partially awake but still confused. "Wh-where are we? Jack? And what's that smell?" I pulled the empanadas out of the greasy bag and got back up. I plucked two straws from a metal bin near the Slurpee machine and sat back down. She sniffed the empanadas and took a bite. She licked her lips and sat it back on the paper wrapper. "That is so good. What is it?" She asked reaching for the slurpee. "My hangover remedy. Speaking of," I said in between bites of my empanada. "How are you feeling?" She took a giant gulp of the slurpee before answering. "Much better now that I'm awake and I'm eating." I smiled at the sight of her licking her fingers after finishing the last of the empanada. "You didn't have to walk me home, Jack." "I couldn't have left you there." I replied. I went into the aisles once more, grabbed two cupcakes and once more approached the counter. I grabbed the cupcakes from the counter, held the door for Hannah and walked out. The lights on the sign still flickered but would go out soon. Hannah opened the plastic immediately and stuck her finger into the cream cheese frosting. She proceeded to lick her finger and began to pucker her lips into a disgusted face. And I couldn't help but laugh. "Lemon. Seriously? You thought I would like lemon? Who even likes lemon?" She ranted. "I'll trade you." I said. She stopped and turned around to wait for me and my non-lemon cupcake. I walked slowly to a stop. And opened the container. She stepped closer, until our faces were only inches apart. "H-here's that cupcake..." I trailed off. She leaned in and I pressed my lips against hers. Ideally we would've kissed during some fireworks, not outside of a 7-11. She tasted solely of lemon, and when she tried to pull away I only kissed harder. She ran her hand through my messy hair and in between kisses we laughed like idiots. When we both stepped back she had the goofiest smile on her face. "What?" I asked sarcastically. "I like lemon..."
