May lifted her head from her pillow and glared at her window. She slammed her face back into her pillow.

"Go away..." she mumbled.

Her heart ached as she thought about the person throwing pebbles at her window. Her room smelled strongly of roses. Roses with their stems cut off were scattered around her room.

*plink* *plink*

May let out a sob. Why can't he just go away? She thought.

"May, please" a muffled voice pleaded, "I'm so sorry!"

May cried silently into her pillow, trying to forget about him.

~ "I don't get it," Drew began, "Why are you so sour about it? You've never been like this"

"It's not that I'm sour, Drew" May argued, "You say you respect me as a coordinator but you don't! You take every opportunity to tell everyone you defeated me!"

"It's not that big of a deal! I'm just joking around"

"But it's a big deal to me!"

"Why?"

"Because, Drew..."

"That's not a valid answer"

May was silent and tears started to form in her eyes.

"Why?" Drew pressed.

"Because I never feel like I'm good enough, and you swoop in and make it worse!" May yelled.

Drew flinched. "May I-" he began, reaching for her hand.

May leaned away from him "-No! Drew I can't do this!"

Drew recoiled "What?" he whispered.

"I'm done. We are done" May said harshly and quickly walked away from Drew~

May's heart burned as she recalled what happened. Her eyes leaked salty tears as she sobbed into her pillow.

It had been three weeks since they broke up. Every day he had sent her roses, and every time she cut them up. She even sent the cut up roses back to him a couple times, but it was becoming too expensive to send them back. He, it seemed, had plenty of money to afford to send all those roses.

May heard a knock on her door as someone opened it.

"May?" The voice called.

"M-Max?" May hiccuped, bringing her head up.

Max looked at his sister sadly. May sat up in her bed, waiting for her brother to speak. Max scanned the room, his eyes landing on the roses. He sighed.

"He's outside ya know"

May nodded.

"Want me to send him away?"

May nodded.

Max mimicked her nod and walked out of her room, closing the door behind him.

May slowly got up from her bed, and cautiously moved to her window.

She opened the window and looked down to see Max talking to him. May's heart felt like someone had stabbed it with a frozen dagger.

She was on the second floor, so she couldn't see him well, but she could tell he did not look good.

She noticed his hair was messy and he wasn't wearing his jacket. She couldn't tell anything else from her height. She did see he was moving his hands frantically, like he was pleading with Max to let him see her. Max shook his head and closed the door on him.

May sobbed.

The boy heard and whipped his head in her direction.

"May..." he said.

May quickly retreated from the window, covering her mouth and turning her back to the window.

"Free?" Something cried. May turned her head to see Butterfree at her window, holding a box. His Butterfree. The Pokémon held the box and fluttered over to her.

"Free?" The Pokémon cried, titling its head.

May hesitantly took the box, eyeing the Pokémon.

Butterfree turned and flew out the window, back to its trainer.

May scanned the box in her hands. It was a small white box with a red ribbon tied around it.

She slowly untied the ribbon and stared at the plain white box. She couldn't open it!

She opened the box and was greeted with a shiny contest ribbon. The ribbon's fabric was faded, as if old. Confused, May lifted the ribbon from the box, and noticed a piece of paper under it.

May walked over to her bed and sat on the edge. She took the note out of the box, placed the ribbon back in the box and placed the box next to her. May unfolded the paper and saw that it was a note.

May~

I bet you're wondering why in Arceus I'm giving you a contest ribbon. Especially after everything...Well, this is one of the ribbons I earned during my journey.

Why is it so special?

This is the first ribbon I ever earned and I want you to have it. I know you're mad at me- and rightfully so. I was a jerk- I teased you even when you asked me to stop.

You don't have to talk to me ever again. I just want you to know that I genuinely care about you, May. And...

I'm in love with you

~Drew

Tears fell on the letter, staining the otherwise clean paper.

"Drew..." May sighed, tears trailing down her face.

Gotta end it there...spoilers :p
