Ooo (full)
Hilda woke up alone in her bed. She found that odd. She never woke up alone anymore- she always woke up with N's arms around her. She felt cold without his added warmth.
With a frown, she got up out of bed and stretched her arms above her head. That's when she noticed an out of place folded paper on their dresser. She walked over to the dresser and picked up the paper, reading its contents.
Good morning my love! Sorry I am not there to wake up with you this morning, but I had to go out. I would love it if you could do me a favor!
Hilda groaned. He probably wanted her to go off to the store and pick up something he forgot.
Remember where we first met?
Hilda raised a curious eyebrow. Of course she remembered- Accumula town. Right in the heart of the town.
I need you to go there. See you in a bit!
~N
Hilda frowned, "Go there and do what?" She wondered. She got ready for her day, thinking about why N would want her to go to Accumula town.
With no answers, Hilda strolled out of the bedroom and into the main part of the apartment she shared with her boyfriend. She found Zoroark lazily laying on the mat by the front door.
"Hey Zoroark," Hilda whistled. Zoroark opened one eye to look at Hilda, "What's this all about?" She asked, showing it the letter.
Zoroark just smirked and closed its eye again. Hilda stomped her foot on the floor.
"Hey! C'mon I know you know!"
Zoroark laughed and got up from its napping spot. It sat by the door, nodding its head towards the doorknob.
"You just want me to leave so you can look for the peanut butter I hid..." Hilda accused.
Zoroark shrugged. Hilda rolled her eyes and grabbed her keys and bag off the stand by the door.
"Fine. Don't tell me...Have fun searching for the peanut butter." Hilda said, exiting the apartment and locking it.
She had not bought more peanut butter.
~~~
"Ugh I really should have eaten breakfast..." Hilda groaned, complaining to her Unfezant after they landed at their destination.
Unfezant rolled his eyes, "And why is it my problem?" He seemed to say.
"Take pity on your dear old trainer, Unfezant."
Unfezant shook his head.
Hilda sighed and pulled out Unfezant's Pokéball, "You don't have to give me attitude. Return."
A red light sucked Unfezant back into its Pokéball, leaving Hilda all alone in town.
"What am I even supposed to be doing here...?" She asked herself, hoping an answer would just appear to her.
Something touched her leg.
With a surprised scream, she noticed a Purrloin with a very confused look on its face.
The Purrloin handed Hilda a piece of paper after she regained composure.
Hello Hilda! If you are reading this, you decided to do me that favor. That is so kind of you. You are probably wondering what you are here for, right?
Duh.
Well I just want you to remember. Remember when we first met. I knew right away there was something different about you. Your Pokémon...Snivy. He spoke so highly of you I wondered if you could hear him too. But you could not...Not back then anyway. We battled. You used Snivy, I used the Purrloin that gave you this letter.
Hilda looked at the Purrloin. It seemed to know why she looked at it and waved.
That day you were just a trainer. Just a reason I wanted to free Pokémon.
My, I am rambling. Do me another favor? Go to the museum in Nacrene city. Please? For me?
~N
Hilda smiled. She almost wished the letter was longer. She had no idea what N was up to, but she knew he was being adorable.
Hilda looked down at Purrloin, "Is there some occasion I'm forgetting?" She asked. Purrloin shrugged and ran off.
"Rude."
~~~
"Sorry Unfezant. I have a feeling we'll be flying around a lot today." Hilda apologized, smiling sheepishly at her Pokémon.
Unfezant rolled his eyes.
Hilda would just ride Zekrom, but Zekrom caused too big of a scene. She only rode on Zekrom in emergencies or to cover long distances.
Hilda returned Unfezant to his Pokéball and strolled inside the Nacrene city museum. She was immediately greeted by Lenora.
"Hey there hun!" Lenora chirped. Her Watchog greeted Hilda with a squeak.
Hilda pat Watchog on the head, "Hey Lenora."
"What brings you here?"
Hilda blushed, "Uh...I actually don't really know..."
Lenora smirked and pulled a piece of paper from her pocket, "This perhaps?"
Hilda smiled and took the paper from Lenora.
Hello again my love! By this point in the day, I miss you so so much. Now, you probably do not remember this battle-
Not true. She remembered every battle.
But I do. I remember the fire in your eyes and your determination to win. Little did I know how I would long to see that fire again.
Of course, you had won that battle, as always. I was still having trouble wrapping my head around you. You...You were just like any other trainer I had encountered, but at the same time you were different. Your pure love for battles and your Pokémon was unlike anything I had ever seen. It still is.
Now I know you are probably sick of this now, but I would like you to go to Chargestone Cave.
~N
Hilda sighed, "I love this man..." She swooned.
Lenora chuckled, "Well, better get a move on."
"Hey Lenora?"
"Yeah?"
"Got any food?"
~~~
Hilda took a bite of the sandwich Lenora gave her as she trudged through Chargestone Cave. What was she even supposed to be looking for?
A note- she knew that much. But why? Had she forgotten some occasion?
N often remembered things Hilda didn't- she had even forgotten their anniversary last year. Hilda had felt so bad, telling N she would do anything to make up for it. He ended up requesting she bring him all the vanilla cupcakes from her grandmother's bakery. He had eaten them all in one night and gotten sick, so Hilda had taken the day off from work to take care of him. She didn't mind though. An extra few hours with N was never a bad thing.
A piece of paper floated down from the ceiling of the cave and Hilda snatched it out of the air. She looked up to see a very bored looking Ferroseed.
That one's N's alright... Hilda thought, scanning the letter.
My Hilda! We are nearly done now as by this time it is long past lunch.
It was. Flying around all day was a lot, and it had taken hours just to get to this point in the wild goose chase.
Now here is where things got interesting. I could not stop thinking about you. I asked the Shadow Triad to gather information on you and your friends. I asked for very trivial information like you favorite color, favorite book, etc.
You had told me that was creepy. I did not understand why then, but now...I am surprised you did not run away and never spoke to me again.
I am glad you did not.
Hilda smiled.
Our battle this time around was...different. You made unusually quick work of my friends and I. Perhaps I let you. Perhaps you were just that much stronger. I chose to believe the latter. Why would I let some trainer I did not know beat me with such ease? Why would I let them win so easily? Why would I let my friends get hurt so easily?
I do not mean to hurt your pride by suggesting that I let you win- it is just a theory after all.
After we had parted ways, I knew I had to see you again. I had to.
I will not tell you where to go this time. I would like you to figure it out.
~N
She knew where to go next. Or at least, she thought she did.
~~~
Unfezant flew into the hole in the wall in Dragonspiral cave. The wall had been made by Reshiram years ago, but it seemed no one had ever bothered to fix it.
Hilda looked at the sky. It was already turning a dark red color, the sun's final rays peeking through the clouds. If this was the game N was playing, there were still more stops she was going to have to make.
Instead of a Pokémon to greet her, there was a stone Reshiram sitting on the floor. There was a sheet of paper sticking out from underneath it.
As Hilda picked up the paper, she turned to her feathered Pokémon, "Do you know what all of this is about?"
Unfezant nodded.
"Wanna tell me?"
He shook his head.
Hilda frowned, "Fine."
Hilda, I know we did not battle here, but I think it is important for you to see this place.
This is where we met Reshiram. Where the pure white stone formed a giant graceful dragon. I had been chosen that day. The sadness in your eyes was unbearable. It was as if the reality of our situation was hitting you for the first time.
But the coldness that replaced your sadness was blinding. That day you vowed that no matter what, you would stop me. You put so much anger behind those words, it winded me. It was not the tone of voice I would ever associate with you.
I did everything I could in that moment to make that rage go away. I promised you that you were still my friend. Your anger melted away. I could feel it.
You always say that I am horrible at understanding humans.
Hilda smiled. She did always say that.
But I understood you in that moment. You were not really angry, were you?
No.
You were scared. Mine and Reshiram's meeting marked the beginning of the end for us, and that scared you. It scared me too.
That was the end of the letter. Hilda looked around, searching for any other clue- but to no avail. She sighed and turned to Unfezant.
"I've got a hunch. But if it's wrong we'll be waaaay behind schedule."
~~~
Chandelure's flames illuminated the walls of N's old castle, casting shadows across the broken pillars.
Hilda shuddered, "This place..."
She could feel the years of emotional pain seeping through every crack of the castle.
Chandelure laughed mischievously and fazed into the floor, leaving the castle dark.
"CHANDELUUUUURE!!!"
Chandelure reappeared in front of Hilda, laughing.
Hilda glared at her Pokémon, "You're a piece of work."
Chandelure laughed again and followed Hilda up the broken staircase. Hilda lead herself into the throne room, which was completely destroyed. Swoobat hung from the ceiling, covering their sensitive eyes with their wings at Chandelure's harsh flames.
"Dial it down..." Hilda whispered.
Chandelure complied. The Swoobat uncovered their eyes as the harsh light faded.
A small Pokémon walked up to Hilda, it's small red paws padding against the floor.
Hilda kneeled down and stroked the familiar Pokémon's fur, "Hey Zorua." She whispered.
Zorua offered Hilda the note in its mouth.
Hilda, this is where we had our final battle. It was horrible. It was where the future of all Unova would be decided. Would Pokémon and humans be separated forever, or would they continue to live in harmony?
You won, of course, with the help of your newest partner, Zekrom. Pokémon and humans would continue to live side-by-side.
Ghetsis hurt me. You did everything you could to pick up the broken pieces...to undo the damage...but it was too late. It did not matter what you said or what you did- I had to go. I had to go and leave you behind.
You told me you loved me.
You begged me to stay. You looked like you would have thrown yourself off of a cliff just to get me to stay.
Hilda sniffled. In that moment, she would have done just about anything to get him to stay. She wanted to be selfish. To be with him. To get him to stay. Now she knew they needed that time apart. But it didn't make it any less painful reliving it.
And it was not that I did not believe that you loved me...it was just that I did not truly know what that meant. I could not say with certainty that I loved you as well, because I did not know how I felt.
But I know now.
I love you, Hilda.
More than anything else in this world.
Now you are probably wondering what occasion you forgot.
Hilda smiled, sniffled, and wiped away tears that had escaped her eyes. He knew her so well.
Well, meet me at the ferris wheel and I will tell you.
~N
Hilda nodded. The ferris wheel. Where it all truly began.
~~~
"N!" Hilda chirped, throwing herself in her boyfriend's open arms.
N hugged Hilda tightly, "Hilda...how are you?"
Hilda pulled away, "Starving."
N frowned, "Did you forget to eat?"
Hilda smiled sheepishly.
N sighed and shook his head, "We'll eat soon. Come ride the ferris wheel with me." He said, taking Hilda's hand.
Hilda nodded, "Okay."
As the couple boarded the ride, Hilda noted that she and N were the only people occupying the park. Even if it was now quite late at night, it should still be full of people.
"So...What's the occasion I'm forgetting?" Hilda asked as the ride began to move, "It's not our anniversary..."
N shook his head.
"It's not your birthday...it's not my birthday..."
N smiled.
Hilda sighed, "I give up- What is it?"
N took Hilda's hands, "Hilda...there is no occasion."
Hilda frowned, "Then what's all this about?"
The ferris wheel stopped at the top. Nimbasa city's lights lit up the horizon. The lights of the ferris wheel illuminated N and Hilda's faces.
N leaned in and gave Hilda a quick kiss on the lips, "You know I love you, right?"
"Yes..."
"You know I would do anything for you?"
"N...what's going on?"
N cleared his throat, "Hilda, you read all of my letters, right?"
Hilda nodded.
N took a deep breath, "The years we spent apart were horrible. But they had to happen, we both know that."
Hilda nodded silently.
"When I came back, all I could think about was you. You are still all I think about. I cannot imagine another day without you. I cannot imagine my life without you."
Hilda flashed N a smile. Arceus, he was so adorable.
N reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black box.
Hilda's smile evaporated, "Wait...What are you doing?"
"Hilda-"
"Stop." Hilda said.
N hesitated.
"Keep going," She said, "No...Stop...Go."
N chuckled, "You are not making this easy."
"When has anything ever been easy with us?" Hilda asked, smirking.
N smiled, "Never." He answered.
Hilda giggled.
"Hilda White?"
"Yes?"
N opened the box to reveal a silver ring with a black diamond and two white diamonds on either side of it.
"Will you marry me?"
Hilda nodded, "Of course you grasshead."
As soon as N put the ring on Hilda's finer, she put both hands on his face, squishing his cheeks together and pulling him into a kiss.
Then, the ferris wheel began to move again.
(A/N. Wow wasn't that fun?
