Chapter 6
Later that day, Phantom Girl had decided to give Alvie the exclusive Legion tour, showing her around. Luckily most of the legionnaires had gotten missions that day and were already out. But while they walked, Phantom Girl brought up another annoying topic.
"So when you join officially, you're going to need a new name. Something...smart sounding. Uh... Intelligent Girl!" She rolled her eyes.
"Funny. Really. I'm bursting out in hysterics." Alvie stated sarcastically.
"How about... Gadget! Or, or, or..." Alvie raised an eyebrow at Phantom Girl's futile attempts. Phantom Girl soon finished her tour by showing the main control room where Brainy was working at the computer dubbed COMPUTO and a white haired girl was sitting at the round coach, reading a book. Alvie recognized the girl to be Dream Girl. On their entering, she looked up. Her eyes went wide and she stood up from the coach, the book dropping onto the floor.
"It's you..." She said silently. Alvie frowned. Brainy heard this and spun his chair around to face the scene.
"Did you see her in one of your dreams?" Phantom Girl asked. Dream Girl nodded in response.
"I did. You were..." Dream Girl stopped abruptly, wondering if she should describe the contents of her dream. "In the future, just be careful, okay?" Alvie frowned in response, confused. Dream Girl didn't say anything more and left the room.
"What was that all about?" Alvie questioned.
"Dream Girl has the ability to dream of happenings in the future." Brainy explained.
"And I'm guessing from the tone of her voice and her warning, something bad is going to happen to me. Great." Alvie said, slumping. Phantom Girl put a reassuringly hand on Alvie's shoulder.
"Come on." Phantom Girl said and led Alvie out the room, and towards the front entrance.
"Where are we going?" She questioned.
"You promised me an explanation, and in return I'm buying us some decent dinner. Come on," They exited the building and began heading towards the city. "Even though Saturn Girl is away on a mission, I don't think you'd like to explain with the possibility of Brainy overhearing." She nodded; glad Phantom Girl had taken that into consideration.
"Thanks."
"So? What happened?" Alvie sighed and started to explain.
"Alvie! You can't leave yet!" The twenty-two year old Benjamin yelled out in surprise as he saw Alvie, a girl who was a well ten years younger than him yet ten times smarter, packing her bags so that she could leave. She turned towards him with a huff.
"And why not?" She asked childishly, crossing her arms annoyingly.
"Because the Institute needs you! We've made more discoveries in the last two years than all the other years combined!" He explained quickly, his mind still racing at the fact that the Institute of Dark Matter might just be losing their main aspect.
"Maybe so, but you can't piggyback on my research forever. I've helped the Institute by giving starting points, now you just need to find the ending point." She said before going back to packing all her clothes and supplies into her endless bag.
"But what about your research? We can't possibly pick up your pocket research so quickly!" He said, mind still in a panic mode. She zipped up her bag and pulled it over one shoulder before turning towards him.
"I'm not abandoning it. I would never abandon it! I just can't continue my research further while being here. I've finished everything I can here, and all I need to find now is a way to create an entry way into a pocket universe. I've figured out that a tear in the fabric of the universe might work, but I realized that I'll need some intense technology to make that work. That's why I'm leaving." She explained. Benjamin slowly calmed after she finished explaining.
"So you're not abandoning your research? You're just leaving to study technology for your research?" Alvie nodded slowly, glad he finally calmed down. He reached up and pressed his hand over his dangerously pounding heart, feeling it slowly calm down. "That's such a relief! You almost gave me a heart attack." He laughed sheepishly. Alvie looked towards his hand placed over his heart before looking up at his face again.
"You might want to get that checked out before you have future heart problems. You could possibly get a real heart attack," Benjamin's eyes went wide at her statement. "Now then if you'll excuse me, I would like to leave." Benjamin's mouth shaped in a 'O' before he stepped out of the doorframe, allowing Alvie to escape from her room. Benjamin followed Alvie towards the loading deck where her ship was hooked up to the Institute. See the Institute of Dark Matter wasn't on any planet or physical entity, but instead it was a large metallic floating fortress in the middle of a galaxy with only two planets, one of which was a supply planet and the other a famous tourist attraction of food. Quite convenient place actually.
"So Alvie, you better give us recent updates! Don't want me come knocking down your door to find out what it is you found." He said with a stern knowing look. She had done it before here at the Institute. For two weeks she locked herself in her room, only going out for food. She was so isolated that Benjamin was sent to break down her door to find out if she was okay. Turns out she was busy drafting her theoretical sketches of how the pocket universe's structure might differ from ours. Benjamin discovered Alvie's hidden artist that day.
"It's my research; therefor I won't make any promises." She said as she reached her ship.
"But, uh..." Benjamin started but had no idea what he wanted to say, therefore he stopped.
"I don't do goodbyes." Alvie said before activating her ship, the door opening in a welcome manner. She stepped onboard, the door closing behind her. Benjamin was left shell-shocked before sighing. He watched as Alvie started up her ship and steered out of the docking station, soon flying out of sight. Alvie watched as the Institute became smaller until she could no longer see it. I wonder what Benjamin's going to tell Mister Head Scientist. Uh hey, sorry to bother you, but Alvie kind of... left. She smiled at that thought before halting her ship. She pulled up the autopilot sequence and opened the intensely detailed map of the universe. She tried to remember what star system she was looking for and entered the name, re-entering it a few times with different spellings until she got the right one. She selected the star system and a 3D graphic map appeared of the star system with the sun, the single planet and more orbits containing meteors and other smaller orbiting objects. She took a deep breath, staring at the single planet. Do I really want to go there? I'll get the best results from there, but still... She bit her lip. Just as she was about to select the planet, a contact appeared on her screen. She sighed in relief, knowing she had more time to debate her decision. She leaned forward and accepted the call. It wasn't long before a handsome, devilish familiar face appeared on the screen. His blood red hair hung down the front of his face and over his shoulders while the majority of it was tied at the back. He was wearing a white shirt with a black royal trench coat over it, the standard dressing for a person of his status. As Alvie saw his face, his familiar smirk and his glittering eyes, her smile widened into something bright. If you asked Alvie, she would never deny it. She had the biggest crush on the dear Council Head Xegolt.
"Xegolt!" She exclaimed excitedly. Xegolt smiled back at her, his smile almost just as bright.
"Hello Alvie. How are you doing?" He asked in a gentle voice.
"Fantastic! I was just leaving the Institute so that I can continue researching, but I can come back if you want." She nodded, almost frantically. Alvie would do anything Xegolt told her to do, no matter the extremes. Not like he ever misused this power he had over her, or ever will.
"No Alvie, it's okay. I know how important your research is to you, but I just want you to be careful. You are just a child thrown into the depths of the universe after all." He stated, worry lacing his words. Alvie smiled at his concern.
"I'll be fine Xegolt, really! But how'd you know to contact me?" She asked curiously, tilting her head slightly.
"Your parents had insisted I create a notification beacon to notify us when your ship is online and you're inside, for communication and safety purposes," Alvie had to resist the urge to roll her eyes. Her parents were very protective over her and she wasn't old enough to appreciate that side of them yet. Although, it didn't concern twelve years old Alvie much since it meant Xegolt had contacted her. "Where is it you're heading now?" Alvie shrugged.
"I'm still wondering, looking at the pros and cons of different places until I find the right place to study technology." She explained.
"Well, where's you first choice?" This is where Alvie halted. She hesitated before responding, chewing her bottom lip, a habit she picked up when she was nervous.
"Uhm...you might not like it." She said, casting her eyes away from the screen and to the console. Xegolt froze, almost in understanding.
"By 'not like it', you mean the place is dangerous?" Alvie nodded slowly.
"Yeah, that's why I haven't decided on a place yet. I really need the best technology for this, but that comes at the price of my own safety." She explained, almost sadly.
"Alvie, if it means placing yourself in danger, then you shouldn't go to such measures. You still have you entire life in front of you. Rather go to variable safe places than one dangerous one and who knows, from those variable places you might just invent your own better, evolved type." Xegolt said in his political voice, a voice no one can turn down, but a voice no one wants to turn down. Alvie looked down and chewed on her bottom lip. But there's no comparing to that place, she thought sadly to herself. She looked up, determination on her face.
"You're right. This is my own research, my own discovery, my own science. I should also add my own technology. Why hadn't I thought of that before? Thank you, Xegolt!" She said brightly, a smile filling her face. He smiled back at her, just as warmly.
"Will you keep me up to date?" He asked. She nodded enthusiastically.
"Of course!" She shouted in excitement. He chuckled at his, his laughter like an angel's melody and her ears like a sanctuary receiving it.
"Be safe, Alvie. I love you." He said teasingly. She chuckled at him. Xegolt saw Alvie as his little sister, a little sister he could love and cherish.
"I love you to!" She responded before he closed the contact. As soon as the contact dropped, her excitement and smile dropped. She slumped into her seat with a sigh. She looked back at the console with sadness. "I'm so, so sorry, Xegolt, but it's a risk I'm going to have to take." She sat forward and leaned over the console. She hesitated for only a second before she selected the dangerous single planet. The ship rustled before autopilot took over and the ship began moving. She sat back, her thoughts taking over as she wondered about her decision. It's not too late to turn back, she thought to herself. Determination filled her being as she made her final decision. No. I have to do this. I began it, and I'm going to end it. Colu, I'm coming for you.
With light speed activated, it wasn't long before she entered the forbidden star system. She gulped nervously before her determination returned. I'm going to get through this. Stay strong Alvie. Her ship headed toward Colu, now at a normal speed. It wasn't long before a warning message appeared on her console, ordering her to turn back. She scoffed at the silly warning, not taking the threat to heart. She increased the speed a little, not being able to sit patiently any longer. It wasn't long before she entered through the atmosphere, a giddiness filling her being. However, what happened next was unpredictable, yet she should have known better. Her ship suddenly jerked and red warning lights flashed, giving her the impression that they had blast her ship. Even as her ship jerked again and her body flew around like a rag doll, all she could do was think about how daring these Coluans was. As soon as she crash lands, she will be going to go look for a fight. Another blast came, this time directly from beneath. Her body was thrown to the ceiling, and that's when she unleashed the colourful she had heard Benjamin sneer when he managed to torch his own finger. She had unleashed this word not for any painful feelings, but out of annoyance that she had not yet crash landed. Eventually, she did crash land with her body sprawled out on the ship floor. Somewhere along the way the ribbon in her hair managed to escape and now her red hair was sprawled all over her like a blanket. She blew at a strand covering her eye in annoyance. She continued to lay there until she heard the sound of her ship being forced open. She sat up swiftly and jumped to her feet. She threw all of her hair over her shoulders before the entire side of the ship was peeled away, revealing three typical Coluans. They all stared at her in a sort of confusion until one of them spoke up.
"You are not injured?" He questioned. Alvie looked down at her being, seeing dirt and scratches, but no injuries. She shrugged and looked up.
"I'm Ostonian, not a normal human. Ostonians' can access an average of 42% of their cerebral capacity while humans only can 10%. Ostorph's gravity is also 25.78% stronger than Earth's, therefor we have a tougher, stronger built, can carry up to 10 tons and we have higher resistance toleration up to 116 dols of pain... Just for the summed up, statistical version." She laughed sheepishly as she saw their blank stares.
"Identify yourself." One of them ordered, his arm turning to a canon.
"Wow, wow, slow down buddie! My name's Alvie Essari." She introduced, holding her arms up in a surrender manner.
"Reason for destination?" Another one boomed. He must mean Colu, she thought. She shook her head and stood up straight, determination in her stance.
"I've come for your technology. I want to study it." She announced, causing the three Coluans to stare at her in a sort of confusion.
"You want to study our technology?" Another voice asked, this one holding the utmost authority. The three Coluans parted so that the large, feminine Coluan could pass by them, a large head piece on her head. Alvie nodded.
"I do. I need your technology for a controller I'm building." She explained. The female Coluan stared at Alvie before responding.
"And what is this controller that requires Coluan technology?" She questioned.
"The controller is a device that will be able to control a tear in the fabric of space, giving us a gateway into pocket universes. You have to exit this universe to enter another. The only way to do that is with a tear." Alvie explained, using arm gestures.
"Even if it would be possible to enter your said 'pocket universe', a tear in the fabric of the universe would be too dangerous, even for us. Little girl, it is time and space you are messing with. I believe you are underestimating the power of the universe." The female Coluan said with scrunched eyes, glaring through them. Alvie took no notice to them.
"That's why I studied it! I understand fully well the danger, but I understand how dark matter works. Dark matter eats and tears at everything, trying to claim all space but at an excruciating slow rate. The Institute of Dark Matter managed to find a way to halt the process, giving us enough time to be able to create a controller tear without having to worry about the dark matter either fixing the tear, entering and claiming the pocket universe or our universe collapsing." Alvie explained, noticing a small tint of interest entered the female's eyes.
"What you are suggesting is possibly the most dangerous device ever created with different functions. If one should fail, -." Alvie cut off the female, surprising the Coluans.
"I could jeopardize the universe, I know, but that's why I came here! For the best technology possibly around. And it's not like I'm going to create this device just like that, I'm going through every single possibly of failure and creating counter measures, safety procedures, and of course when it's tested it'll be in an abandoned universe with other devices to stop any accident. I also wanted to abandon my research because of the danger, but the Institute gave me all the pros and cons, and according to them, the ends justify the means. Intelligent civilizations could be trapped inside, waiting to share their information with someone but there isn't anyone. Extinct races could be located inside for all we know. I have researched each event where a tear in the universe would appear. This would be when someone is messing with a large quantity of time or whatnot, and I have theoretically discovered that everything sucked into the tears might be located inside a pocket universe. We have a hypothesis that the dinosaurs also got sucked in from the brief tear in the universe in unrecorded human time. It was when Jupiter was created, since we had discovered the Milky Way's structure is quite different to others and the planets were created in a random order, and at the same time around, a meteor appeared from the ESP Star System, containing strong minerals that had a nasty chemical reaction with Jupiter's gasses. The result was so large that a brief tear appeared, managing to suck in three of Jupiter's moons, half of what- could-have-been Mars, one dwarf planet which was supposedly between Earth and the not-yet-constructed-Mars. And then possibly, since it was quite a small tear and the further you got away from it the weaker the vacuum got, possibly everything not attached to Earth ground. Meaning, possibly, the dinosaurs." She finished with a large gasp for air. After she regained her oxygen lost from the long explanation, she regained her composure and smiled up at the female.
"What did you say your name was?" The female Coluan questioned.
"Alvie Essari, uhm, a... ma'am?" She asked unsure.
"I am known as Head Computer Tyrant, ruler of Colu and directly connect to the hive mind. Miss Essari, if you would follow me." She said before turning around, heading in the direction of the largest building sticking out from the others. The three Coluans parted ways so that Alvie and the Head would pass through. Alvie followed hesitantly behind, unsure what would happen next. She entered behind the Head, other Coluans staring at them with interest. They made it towards an extraordinary large door where the Head told her to wait in front of before entering herself, leaving Alvie alone in front of the closed, large door. She waited for what had to be longer than an hour before the door opened, inviting her inside. She stepped into the large room, three large trophy-like metallic towers with large Coluans on top of them, the Head in the middle.
"Alvie Essari, we, the Council of Tyrants, have reviewed your request to study out technology." A male Tyrant spoke.
"And have decided to allow it on one condition." Another male Tyrant spoke. Alvie nodded. She figured there would be a price like there always is.
"Of course. What do you need?" She asked, enthusiastic that her request was actually being considered, not just cast aside like she thought it would be.
"We wish to offer you a proposition that would benefit both your and our party, but for this proposition to work we will need to study your mortal brain." The Head spoke, causing Alvie to frown.
"Why do you need to study my brain?" She questioned, curious with a little bit of fear entering her voice.
"There are certain conditions you need to fulfill in for the proposition to work. If you do not fulfill to these conditions, then we will have no choice but to remove you from our planet." This caused Alvie to frown in confusion.
"What is the proposition?" She asked through furrowed eyes.
"It would not matter if you do not fulfill our conditions." Second Tyrant spoke. Alvie slowly nodded.
"Alright. So all you have to do is check my brain?" Third Tyrant nodded in confirmation. "And if I don't pass these conditions, you'll let me leave? If that happened, then, well... my ship is kind of damaged now." She explained.
"It will be repaired, but I truly believe that it won't be necessary. I would not have left this room if I had not thought that you'd be able to fulfill the conditions." The Head spoke, letting it sound dangerously close to a compliment. Or an insult, depending on what they're looking for. Alvie nodded, deciding to give it a try.
"Alright." She answered. This caused a smile to rise itself onto the Head's robotic face. The door opened once more, causing Alvie to look back. A Coluan man entered his armour lighter than most Coluans.
"Follow Yurl. He will conduct the test." She explained, looking towards him. Alvie nodded and followed the strange Coluan out the room and further into the building. It wasn't long before they entered a white room, metallic applications standing around. A large white chair was in the center of the room, a large round fishbowl-formed application hanging above it.
"Sit." The Coluan ordered and she didn't need to be told twice as she headed over and sat down. The man started to type at the machine hooked to the chair, and not long after, the fishbowl application lowered itself over her head. It surrounded her entire head, only her mouth visible from outside. She stared at the inside, light tubes running around the inside. They suddenly lighted up blue, her pupils dilating at the sudden light. She shut her eyes, the light still hitting her eyelids. She heard rustling in the room and sounds the machinery make before it all went silent. She opened her eyes when the lights disappeared to see the application raising itself back towards the roof.
"That was it?" She questioned in surprise, the man didn't answer her as he continued to type at the machine. Of course, this is Coluan tech after all, she thought to herself. It was a while after he finally stepped away from the machine and headed over to another where he pulled a memory stick from. He turned towards her.
"Stay." He ordered before stepping out of the room and headed away. Alvie sighed and sat back in the chair. She stared at all the applications around the room, only able to guess what they all were. She recognized one of the applications to be one of her own she had invented for Brande Industries. It was a type of gravity x-ray. To work the application you had to scan three perfectly healthy people of certain species, the device saving them and noticing what was the same in all three of them. Then you can scan a person who had a strange object inside of them, like a spoon as an example, while the person is unconscious. The device will slowly through use of the gravity affecting the person's inside direct the object out of the body. This device is obviously more meant used on toddlers who generally just liked to put dangerous things in their mouth, and in sometimes, ingest them.
It was quite a while before the door opened again, Yurl standing in the doorway.
"Come." He ordered. Wow, one worded much? She thought as she followed behind him back into the council room. He left her there, closing the large doors as he exited. She looked up at the Computer Tyrants in anticipation.
"After reviewing your brain and having done some extensive calculations, we have come to the conclusion that your brain does not currently fulfill to our conditions." The Second Tyrant stated, Alvie feeling her hope and determination slip away.
"But through the extensive calculations, we have discovered that if your brain activity should follow in the same manner as it has until now, then you should fulfill the conditions in three years and fourteen days. By then your cerebral capacity should have reached the designated amount." The Third Tyrant explained, causing Alvie to frown.
"By your last statement, do you mean my cerebral capacity is rising?" She asked in shock.
"It would appear so." The Second Tyrant spoke, almost in shock himself.
"I haven't studied the mortal brain before, but I'm guessing it is possible to exceed the set cerebral boundaries." She shrugged.
"You do not seem to be aware, Miss Essari." The Head finally spoke up, staring down at her with a sort of confusion.
"What do you mean?" She asked, frowning.
"It is possible to exceed the boundaries, but never more than 3%. Ostonians' average capacity is 42%. You have overcome it with 16%." The Second Tyrant spoke, Alvie's eyes becoming large.
"58%?! You just said it's never more than 3%!" She screeched in shock, almost in panic.
"Believe us, Miss Essari, we are as shocked as you are. We have never seen anything like this. It is still unknown at this point in time, but your mind seems to have no boundaries and will keep evolving until it reaches full capacity." The Head explained. Alvie looked down at her feet in thought before looking up at them again.
"For some reason, my mind is telling me that might be dangerous." She said, chewing her bottom lip. The Head nodded.
"Very. The mortal mind isn't meant to reach full capacity. That would be far above the safe hazards. That is why we offer you this proposition. It will not only provide us with more research material, but it will benefit you more than it will us. Your life will be saved, and you will have no boundaries as to how much you can learn." The Head explained. Alvie gulped.
"What is it exactly you are expecting of me to do from now?" She questioned.
"We suggest you stay here on Colu for the next three years, minimum. That way you can study the technology you seek and we can monitor your mind's advances at the chance it might speed up or slowdown from our original calculation, either shortening or extending the time before it reaches 80%, the safeguard borderline. When that time reaches, we will be conducting the procedure. What you do after that is up to you." The Second Tyrant explained.
"You guys keep going around it. Just tell me, what exactly is this proposition? This procedure?" She demanded with a glare. There was silence as the Head hesitated before answering.
"The procedure would require a brain surgery where we would remove your brain." Alvie's eyes went wide.
"And kill me anyway?!" She accused.
"We would then replace it with one of our own." The Head continued, choosing to ignore her accusation. Alvie's eyebrows rose.
"Wait...you mean like a... Coluan robot brain?" She asked with a wide mouth.
"To evaluate the problem, Miss Essari, your mortal brain seems to have no boundaries and has already passed 16% over the Ostonian average. If we took your brain's advances and calculate the time before it reaches 80%, it would take three years and fourteen days, if no changes should come. Following that 80%, the safeguard borderline, will it advance a lot faster and in a matter of months you will have reached 100%. The possibility of death before you reach full capacity is highly probable. To save your life, but still keep your intelligence, emotions, and memories you would never want to give up, we propose your brain be replaced with one of our own. This Coluan robot brain, however, is more advanced than the normal one and can connect with all memories and intellect you have gather up until now; your emotions also able to connect with the brain. For you beneficial, it will save your life, give you an endless space to store memories and information in, your information gathering skills will be more advanced, you will be able to connect with the hive mind and gather information, you will be able to connect with technology better and, possibly, also develop some Coluan abilities like technopathy. For our beneficial, we will be able to finally have a subject for our advanced brain and after the procedure we will be able to study your brain in an attempt to find the cause of your no-boundaries mind." The Head explained everything. Alvie understood more now and nodded, gulping.
"And I'm guessing I might not like the alternative as much, will I?" She questioned.
"The only alternative would be to forcefully place boundaries inside your mind, but that option has a 68.6% chance that you will suffer from total amnesia. And if you don't, then just know that the boundaries that will stop your cerebral capacity, might also stop your brain wave activity. Since your brain has been able to evolve up to now, we don't know what effect it might have on the boundaries. We calculate a 38% chance that you will become braindead." The Third Tyrant explained.
"And what's the chance that the brain transplant will succeed?" She questioned, looking at the two options' success rate.
"78%." The Second Tyrant answered. Alvie nodded slowly. I should've known. There's no such thing as a 100% success options, she thought to herself.
"Alright. Earlier you said I could only receive the brain transplant if I fulfilled certain conditions, what does that mean?" She questioned.
"Even though your mind is on the track it is, there are not many mortals who will be able to survive with a Coluan brain. Your brain already works like a calculator, a robotic equational system, as you have proven earlier by your instant calculations. Therefore, you will find it easier to connect with the brain than any other. On another note, you are still young. It is easier for young people to adapt to new things than older. In three years' time, your brain will be even more adaptable with the Coluan one. Your brain will work more like a system then. " The Second Tyrant explained.
"You said the brain was more advanced than a normal Coluan one, and that it will be able to connect with my memories, emotions and intellect." She stated. The Head nodded.
"That is so."
"In that case, who's brain am I getting?" She questioned. All three Tyrants hesitated at the question.
"We fear the answer might change your judgement. Just know that all memories and programming has been erased." The Third Tyrant explained. Alvie nodded slowly.
"Alright. In that case, I have just one last question. You said that if I don't take the procedure, then you'll remove me from the planet. What if I chose to not take it? Will you remove me now?" She questioned.
"No. We stated that if you do not fulfill to the conditions, then we will remove you. You will fulfill them in three years; therefor we will not remove you." The Second Tyrant stated.
"But what if in three years I don't accept the procedure? Then I'd have been kept here for nothing."
"Then it is our lost then." The Third Tyrant answered, almost annoyingly. They must be fairly certain that I'll take the procedure then, she thought to herself. Then another realization struck her.
"Wait, if my mind never fulfilled the conditions, now or later, would you have left me to die?" She questioned.
"We would have given you the warning, knowing that you would seek out a neurologist on your own." The Head answered. Alvie nodded slowly, the entire day up until that point completely ridiculous.
"You probably want an answer, right?" She shrugged.
"We do not at this time. As mentioned before, we highly suggest you stay here for three years so that we can monitor you. After three years, we will go through with whatever procedure of your choosing." The Second Tyrant stated. Alvie frowned suspiciously.
"I still don't see what you get out of this." She stated, almost a demanding tone to her voice.
"Not of your concern. Your concern would be of your welfare and your future intelligence." The Second Tyrant stated angrily. Alvie narrowed her eyes at him before turning to the Head, now more composed.
"Fine. I guess I'll stay." She nodded.
"On that note, I, First Computer Tyrant and Head of Coluan Council, welcomes you to Colu."
Alvie and Phantom Girl had finished lunch and were returning back to HQ.
"I can't believe Colu would actually welcome someone to their planet," Phantom Girl said with a shrug. "What did happen though?" She questioned.
"I stayed on Colu until I got my surgery when I was sixteen. I obviously went for the one with the better chances of success, even though it's inhuman. Instead of leaving, I stayed for two extra years where I was taught to use my new abilities and newfound way of gathering research. Although, I didn't expect to be connected to the hive mind when I went through with the procedure; it was rather surprising to learn I can be connected to something like that. It's a whole other level from normal thinking. I also stayed so that I could have a supervised alignment. It luckily went well." She explained, not afraid to reveal her secret to Phantom Girl anymore.
"Since Brainy had left the hive mind, his alignment wasn't pretty. He almost died. Superman and Timber Wolf had to take him to Zuun so that he could be exposed to Zuunium." She explained.
"Is that when Brainy lost his head?" Alvie questioned in amusement. Phantom Girl looked over with a frown.
"How'd you know?"
"The mechanic at the station told me," She explained. "Anyway, I left Colu when I did because I finished draining Colu of everything they knew. I went a little overboard." She admitted.
"And what did Xegolt think of your procedure?" Alvie bit her lower lip.
"I haven't talked to him since I was twelve. Since my ship basically got destroyed, the fixed version didn't include that notification beacon." She explained.
"Wait... so he could be thinking you're dead for all you know?" She asked in shock. Alvie nodded.
"Basically." She answered, not seeming distressed by the news much.
"But aren't you guys like in love?" She questioned as she flew in front of Alvie's face, causing her to frown.
"In love? What are you talking about?" She asked curiously. Phantom Girl snorted.
"Oh come on, don't be modest! The way you talk about Xegolt, it's clear you're totally infatuated with him!" She screeched in a sort of excitement, causing Alvie to roll her eyes in annoyance.
"I admit I had a crush on him, but I was like, twelve! It's been six years since then, I've outgrown him." She stated, causing Phantom Girl to roll her eyes.
"De-nail!" She stated with a huff. Alvie shook her head in disbelief.
"Whatever. Think what you like. Oh! You won't tell anyone about this, will you?" Alvie suddenly got hit with realization and turned to her.
"Of course not! I won't betray you like that. Although, I have an idea Saturn Girl might know. I can't possess mechanical entities, but seeing as how I got affected by you with just a mechanical brain, think about how confused Saturn Girl must be with her sensory skills!" She said, bewildered. "And since she felt so confused, she probably dove into your mind to find out what it is, probably thinking it was herself that had the problem!" She voiced her theory.
"Meaning she read my mind? Probably knows my entire past?" Alvie asked with a frown.
"Probably yeah. Or... maybe not. Saturn Girl doesn't invade someone's privacy like that, even if she's suspicious or confused. Her sensory skills might've told her that you have some mechanical relation, but I don't think she'll dive into your mind... if she even can. Can telepaths dive into Coluan minds?" She suddenly wondered.
"I... don't know. I've never thought about it before. I never had to worry about it before. That's something we can ask her later. Since she probably already knows I have a strange Coluan connection, why not tell her? I think I can trust her." Alvie said with a nod. Phantom Girl agreed.
"Then you can find out how far telepaths can dive into your mind." She suggested.
"Agreed. It's a short study I'll have to open. Besides the six years on Colu, my entire life is on the web. I have no secrets since I'm too busy to make any." She shrugged. Phantom Girl huffed and they continued walking before an idea struck her.
"Are you going to contact Xegolt? Your planet must be freaking out about you by now." She stated. Alvie sighed and chewed on her bottom lip.
"Probably. I know I have to, I'm just a little afraid to since I haven't contacted in six years and if he found out I went to Colu, who knows what he might do! Even worse if he found out about me being... a hybrid now." She said worriedly.
"Still, it would be better for him to hear from your lips than another." Phantom Girl said. Alvie sighed and nodded.
"You're right. I'll call him, but tomorrow. I want to talk to Saturn Girl tonight, get it over and done with." Phantom Girl nodded.
"Alright. Let's go then."
