A Firebender and an Illusionist
A couple days had come and gone since the end of the entrance exam to the Royal Firebending Academy, in that time both Katsuki and Izuku took on Denki as a student of sorts in order to better teach him in firebending. Behind the modest home that Izuku grew up in, Katsuki and Denki are going through the early firebending lessons in order to strengthen the firepower of the strange lightning bender. After leaving the exams, the instructors had stated that their results would be available in a day or two, so all three of them have been waiting with baited breath over the results that should be coming in the mail. As Kaminari laments about not being able to bend better than a small child, there's a knock at the front door. Deku excuses himself to answer it but continues to hear Katsuki yell at Kaminari about his firebending. Opening the door, Shouto was standing there with a messenger hawk on his shoulder and upon seeing the bird, Izuku's eyes went wide.
"Guys! The messenger hawk is here!" Izuku shouts immediately stopping the two in the backyard causing them to sprint inside. "Get in here, we need to see the results!" Izuku shouts before grabbing Shouto by the collar of his shirt and yanking him inside.
"Well hello to you too Midoriya." Shouto greets as he takes a seat in front of the knee table waiting for the others. He sets his arm down on the table allowing the hawk to step onto it before opening the small tube on its back and removing the paper within.
"About time those nerds get the results in, I was beginning to think they just failed everyone like last year's exam." Katsuki complains before taking a seat on the floor.
"That was a thing? I thought that was just a rumor started by some pissed off students because they failed the exams." Kaminari questions.
"Yeah, after some kid couldn't even get a flame past 700 degrees they just canceled the exams and sent everyone home. So what's it say about us then?"
"Welp. 'Dear examines, We are pleased with this year's participants and are proud to accept these few students into our academy of firebenders. Below is the list of students that will be the first year students this coming semester starting in the Summer this year." Shouto reads before placing the paper on the table allowing the others to see the list for their class.
"Ah man, they have me in remedial firebending." Kaminari groans.
"Who cares! We got in! Bakugou Katsuki, Myself, Todoroki Shouto, Yaoyorozu Momo and Kaminari Denki are all in the first year's class. It even shows which classes we'll be taking too!" Izuku cheers, throwing his arms up in the air with excitement.
"I told you it'd happen." Izuku's father Hisashi calls out from down the hall. The older green haired man pops his head around the corner grinning at what his son had said. "Though I heard you mention the Yaoyorozu princess, didn't I? Wonder why you specified her huh?"
"Deku here's head over heels for the princess that's why, ha! I knew it, you were gushing when you laid eyes on that blue flame firebender." Katsuki teases, causing Izuku to turn and sock him in the shoulder.
"Shut it you, it's not like you have room to say anything to me about that considering you haven't even gone on a date with Utsushimi yet now have you?" This prompts the other three to start laughing at Katsuki's expense.
"Oh yeah yeah real funny, but how about this! Checkmate Assmunch." Katsuki declares before shoving his phone into Izuku's face allowing him to read a text conversation between him and Camie.
"Oh you have a date... do you even know how to go on a date?"
"Nope."
"You have no idea what to do, do you?"
"Nope."
"Bruh."
"Now hold on boys, I know a thing or two about wooing the ladies." Hisashi interjects.
"Don't say that. Mom was literally the first girl you ever dated and you married her." Izuku corrects his father.
"That's true, and he was a nervous wreck when he asked me out." Inko replies from the kitchen where she's preparing Katsudon for the congregation of firebenders that had suddenly gathered in her living room.
"Thanks Izuku, I knew I could count on you." Hisashi says sarcastically before taking a seat beside Izuku and Katsuki. "My point was, before I was so rudely interrupted, was that I've been married for 20 years now so I know a thing or two about etiquette and how to treat a lady."
"You didn't phrase it that way."
"Shut it." Hisashi turns and points to Izuku before continuing. "First things first, who asked whom?"
"She asked me, and she also wants to go to Iroh's Jasmine Dragon tea shop, then watch a movie." Katsuki replies showing Hisashi the texts where he asked where she wanted to go.
"Well that's half the equation right there, now all you need to do is set up a time, and go pick her up. Aside from that just be your normal confident self, and follow basic chivalry etiquette while with her. Don't let her walk close to the road, and hold doors." Hisashi explains before patting Katsuki on the shoulder. "Don't overthink it, and if you really need a way to tell if she likes you, tell her a bad joke like a really corny dad joke, if she laughs then you're in the clear."
"Is that it? Is that really it, because I feel like you might be missing something and I'm going to fuck this up." Katsuki says in an uncharacteristic bit of unease to what is going to happen later.
"Katsuki. Every single guy does the same thing you're doing. You're overthinking this." Inko reaffirms but gets Izuku and Shouto to snicker.
"Him? Overthink? I've never known him To think." Izuku jokes, earning himself an evil eye from Katsuki. "Glare at me all you want Smoke for brains, you know I'm right. You think, fire blast first, ask questions later."
"He's got a point."
"Fuck you."
"Love you too buddy, now get the fuck outta here you gotta date to go on." Shouto responds before pushing Katsuki out of the house.
"Never in a million years did I think he'd be nervous about anything. Much less go out with a girl." Izuku says in slight surprise before meeting an arched eyebrow and smirk from his dad. "What?"
"So, what's this about the firebender princess you were staring at during the entrance exams?"
"She just bends blue fire, I think that's cool."
"Yeah right, so does my brother but you don't see me bragging about it." Shouto remarks. "You only saw her in that sports bra and you're already head over heels for her."
"Shut up. You and your family are freaks of nature, mister I can create ice with a quirk and firebend at the same time."
"So... what about my firebending?"
"No firebending in the backyard. Let's take this over to my agency, we'll train better there." Hisashi orders the remaining teens prompting them to get up and follow him out of the house.
"Keep an eye on the news in these next coming weeks, the 16th anniversary of Avatar Genji's death is soon so we will be getting the announcement of the next avatar soon! It's supposed to be on Izuku and Shouto's birthday!" Inko calls out as the door closes behind them. As it closes Inko waves goodbye to her husband before taking a seat on the couch. "Mushu c'mere buddy." She beckons and a baby red dragon slithers through the air before landing around her shoulders. "Good boy." She compliments him before giving the small dragon a piece of bacon she had with her lunch.
With Katsuki
The young firebender had quickly sped home in order to get changed and ready for his date with Camie. Mitsuki had her input on what he should wear but after a brief argument she managed to convince him to go with a more lax but still modest style. It was similar to his normal firenation garb being a warm maroon color with accents of gold and a pale red but instead of being a tie over gi like he preferred to wear it was a button up shirt that went over a pair of jeans that were invented in the UKS. Packing his wallet into his pocket Katsuki takes a deep breath looking at himself in the mirror trying to get rid of any anxiety that's welling up in his chest. He brushes his hair out in front of the blazing eye on his forehead and takes a final deep breath before heading out of his home ready to meet up with her at the Jasmine Dragon. Through his short walk to the train station, he continued to try to be calm about the upcoming date. He just got into the most prestigious bending academy on the planet and he's nervous about going out with a girl he's been friends with for half a year. Without further adieu he scans his boarding pass and gets on the train heading to Fukuroi.
A short while later, Katsuki steps off the train. His trip had only lasted a half an hour but it felt like an eternity to the young combustion bender. While his outward confidence was at its usual as he carried himself down the street, internally he was almost panicking. Embers of nervousness heated the inside of his chest and they only got more intense as he saw her standing in front of the entrance to the Jasmine Dragon. The faun haired woman is dressed in tight jeans that accentuate her hips and a midriff cut red short sleeve shirt that had All Might's logo on the front in black. She smiles when she sees him walk up, greeting him when he gets close enough. "Hey Katsu, how you doing?" She asks in a singsong-like tone. "G-good." He stutters causing her to giggle slightly, swallowing a bit of nervousness Katsuki opens the door to the establishment allowing her to walk inside first. The spacious inviting room had small privacy rooms off to the side as well as both standard and booth tables. In the center of the room was a large green and gold rug like the colors of the old earth kingdom. On the rug, a black and white circle emblem is on display saying the name of the establishment around the curve of the circle as well as two dragons under a white lotus in the center of the image. Katsuki leads her to a side privacy room before handing her a menu and sitting down.
"I've like never been here before, I know it's the biggest tea company in the world but I've never gotten anything from an actual tea shop, have you been here before?" Camie asks, trying to set Katsuki's nerves at ease as she skims through the menu.
"I..." Katsuki pauses before clearing his throat. "I'd get Iroh's f-favorite. It's a pot of Jasmine tea with roast duck and rice. I-It also comes with two cups of white d-dragon tea. Sometimes they throw i-in the firelord's favor which was a sweet tart made from mangoes and peaches. The one they're referencing was Firelord Zuko with that dish." Katsuki explains, trying to keep his composure in front of Camie.
"The firelord's favor was a sweet tart dish enjoyed by Firelord Zuko the first and his wife Firelady Mai. It's a semi sweet tart consisting of custard, Mango and peaches dusted in powdered sugar, it's said that the redeeming firelord had a massive sweet tooth." Camie reads from under the small picture. "That sounds totes delish, let's get it for the two of us." Katsuki nods before pressing the call button beckoning a waiter. The young man is dressed in a simple green robe with an apron in front fitted with a small hat on the side of his head. Camie quickly gives their order before the young man darts off leaving the two alone again.
"So, how'd the exam go? You get to blow anythin' up?" She asks.
"Yeah! Deku and I managed to get in and the test was super easy." He responds, starting to lighten up a little. "They only let me use my combustion bending once though, which sucks and if it couldn't get worse then I had to fight some matchstick named Chan."
"Matchstick?"
"It's an insult for a crappy firebender. The guy couldn't even warm up this room much less stand a chance against me." Katsuki gloats, letting a bit of bravado out. Camie laughs at this statement before reaching her hand out and cupping the side of his cheek.
"Don't be all timid Katsu, it doesn't suit you." She instructs before leaving over and kissing him on the cheek. "Now, tell me all about the agni kai. It sounded totes exciting."
"O-ok." Katsuki stammers, staring at her wide eyed trying to process what she had just done. "Well... uh. I'll just leave the boring stuff out then. The written crap was just your normal math and grammar stuff. Then they sent home everyone that failed the first half." He begins and as he's speaking the waiter returns with their meal.
"Enjoy." He says dropping off the teapot and cups.
"Hopefully this is as good as they say." Camie says before pouring herself a cup of tea, shortly followed by katsuki. The two take a sip before Katsuki spits it out before turning to the cup disgusted.
"That's terrible. Iroh would be rolling in his urn if he knew about this. There's no flavor it's just hot leaf juice. On top of that it's barely even hot." Katsuki grumbles before firebending the base of the glass in order to heat the liquid more. Taking another sip he flinches as the taste is still abhorrent. "Ugh. I'd try adding some sugar or ember honey if I were you."
"Yeah... it isn't great." She says before extending her glass for Katsuki to warm for her. She takes a small honey dipper before mixing in the amber syrup. "At Least the duck is good though."
"I'd prefer mine spicier but yeah, it's pretty good. Though if they're gonna call the tea Iroh's favorite they could at least make it good first." Katsuki jokes causing her to giggle once more. "Let's wrap up our meal and go for a walk around town. Maybe we can find some better tea around."
"Sounds perfect."
