The Princess and The Avatar
Shouto had convinced Izuku to wear a disguise while he waited for Momo to arrive at the academy to pick him up for their date. Katsuki suggested that the disguise was thorough enough where the other students wouldn't recognize him as the avatar but Izuku countered saying then Momo wouldn't. After Shouto just told him to take a picture of his disguise and send it to Momo so she knows who to look for, he feels stupid for not thinking of that first. The best that Sparky and the peppermint butler could come up with was a pair of sunglasses, hat and obviously fake mustache, Izuku declined wearing the mustache. Thankfully the glasses and hat are enough to keep people off his back as he leaves the dormitory and heads towards the entrance to the academy. Who would've known that being the avatar in the modern world would be such a hassle, part of him would have preferred being an avatar in an era where the world wasn't a mere tap on a phone screen away from instantly knowing who he is, what he looks like and where he attends school as the avatar. So much for wanting to remain anonymous until he turned 18.
While people have asked him about accessing his past lives, Izuku was slightly anxious about meeting them or attempting to commune with them to begin with. Roku day is on the winter solstice, 387 years ago he made his last appearance in the mortal world when Avatar Aang channeled the previous avatar of fire's knowledge and form in an altercation with a firenation commander. Normally they'd watch fireworks and bring offerings to statues of Roku all over the firenation however with his title as the avatar being revealed Izuku will most likely go to the new temple of Roku to commune with his past life. That can wait however, the duties of the avatar, the communing with past lives, those don't matter right now. The thing that's taking up most of his thoughts is his date with Princess Momo Yaoyorozu. Normally a firebender feeling a cold chill up their spine is a sign of a pretty nasty sickness but in Izuku's case it's anxiety. It only gets worse as the air is filled with police sirens. Up the street a good distance from him, the traffic has been stopped by the local police as the motorcade of the royal family leads through the city. Multiple motorcycle cops, SUVs and then one of the limousines that bears the royal family insignia in the middle of the escort. The entire thing comes to a stop right in front of where Izuku is seated, and the young avatar stands up as a couple full uniform royal firebenders approach him.
"Are you Avatar Midoriya Izuku?" One of the imperial firebenders asks as they approach the green haired man. The modern uniforms of the imperial firebenders are sleek yet imposing. The armor itself is layered like dragon scales, large pads with a single spike in the center protect the shoulders, black gauntlets with gold trim on the outside sit on the man's wrists. His head is covered in a kabuto style helmet with large horns that sit on the top of the head, the face covered by a half mask bearing the resemblance of a dragon. "May I see your ID?"
"I am Avatar Izuku sir." Izuku responds as he takes off his hat and sunglasses, he produces his school ID then hands it to the crimson clad firebender. The man's amber eyes scan the piece of laminated plastic for a brief moment before looking at Izuku and comparing the looks.
"It is an honor to be in your presence, Young Avatar. Please follow me." The soldier says. The statement prompts the remaining three imperial firebenders to bow in respect. "Apologies about all the prompt and circumstance. While Lady Yaoyorozu had requested more subtle transportation, the Firelord requested that we escort you two in the motorcade." The man explains as he ushers Izuku into the limousine, once he gets close enough another one of the imperial firebenders opens the door for him to enter.
As he climbs inside the limousine, he sees Momo seated by herself on the bench seat expectantly waiting for him. Upon seeing her, he feels slightly underdressed as he puts on a maroon button up shirt with a golden dragon emblem over the left sleeve and on the left pectoral. His pants are a simple pair of blue jeans from the Earth Kingdom States and he's still wearing the same red shoes he always has. Momo on the other hand is wearing an apple red kimono with golden branches and leaves of a ginkgo tree sewn into the fine silk. Her spiky ponytail is more tamed, being pulled into a small bun that spikes out at the top slightly. Two golden rod hairpins stick into and out of her top bun just behind the royal crest that sits in her hair. She smiles seeing him enter, patting the seat next to her. "I hope I didn't startle you with the royal procession." She says as he takes a seat next to her. Once seated the imperial firebender outside closes the door before they return to their motorcycles.
"Shouto said that this would probably happen." Izuku responds, "You look beautiful... I kinda feel underdressed for today." He says, trying his best to not stutter in her presence.
"Thank you for complimenting me, Avatar Izuku." Momo responds, though her using his first name causes him to blush heavily. "You are dressed just fine, my sisters and mother insisted they get me dolled up like this. Though the shirt brings out your muscles and handsome face."
"Th-thank you, M-momo." Izuku stammers, his face now almost as red as his shirt. "Y-you don't have to c-call me the Avatar." He adds.
"Would you prefer me to call you Izuku?" She asks in a deceptive innocent tone but internally she's giddy at the chance to tease him. He's definitely going to have to get used to this.
"Yes." He answers, though it's almost a whisper to hide his embarrassment.
"Then I will." She says as the motorcade begins to move. "I hope you're hungry, Embers is the best steak house in the country, and don't worry about paying. Father said that today is on him so we can get whatever we want."
"Oh, that's good. So... Do I need to meet your family today?"
"Oh heavens no, the firelord mentioned wanting to meet you but the Firelady convinced him to let us have our date. He'll probably send a messenger hawk when he wants to meet with you and your family. Apparently your grandfather and him were good friends in highschool." Izuku perks up slightly when she says this, regaining some of his confidence.
As the motorcade arrives at the steakhouse, pedestrians, heroes and passers-by all stop to look at which member of the royal family has arrived at the restaurant. It's pretty rare for a member of the royal family to do something so pedestrian so this is kind of a big deal. What they aren't expecting however is the green haired Avatar to exit the limousine before offering a hand to Princess Momo. As soon as people recognize the two of them, a crowd gathers near the steps to the steakhouse however the imperial firebenders flanking the pathway on all sides prevent the locals from getting too close to the two. However the royal guard can't stop the people from becoming amateur photographers snapping dozens if not hundreds of pictures as the two enter the restaurant.
Once the two get inside, two of the members of the royal guard take up positions guarding the doors of the establishment so that the two could enjoy their first date. Though when they get to the hostess booth, the person that Momo already didn't like due to what she had said to Izuku is standing behind the little podium. Kayako Hyodo, widely considered the most attractive woman at their school, her taller frame just edging out Momo height wise. The noirette woman has her hair done up in a top knot and tied back to frame her face elegantly. Despite the fact she's wearing a pair of slacks and a white shirt, her filled out bust pressed tightly against the buttons of her shirt threatening to break them apart. Kayako is standing there expectantly waiting for the two to walk up to her. The amber eyes of both women meet and immediately light tension between them.
"Hello, Avatar Izuku. Welcome to Embers Imperial Steakhouse." She greets, causing Momo to grit her teeth at the fact that this floozy just called Izuku by his first name. "How many at your party today?" Though she's presenting a kind closed eyed smile, the statement is said through her teeth.
"A table for two." Izuku says politely, completely oblivious to the change in atmosphere between Momo and Kayako. The older girl nods at his request before collecting two menus, she steps out from behind her booth before motioning for the two to follow her. Momo stops herself from grumbling at how Kayako is acting towards Izuku, especially with her swaying her hips as obviously as possible trying to catch the Avatar's attention.
With the four nations becoming closer and closer on the world stage to a united society, many restaurants the world over have taken to incorporating themes, designs and even foods from the different cultures. The ranking system these restaurants use is Spirit Stars, as a way to honor both their ancestors and the cultures around the world. Embers Imperial is one of a few four spirit star establishments in the firenation. The décor here is simple but draws heavily on the earth kingdom and firenation itself. The wide dining area is floored with black marble with red jasper accents speckled through the stone tiles. The walls are a gold color that reflects both the firenation and earth kingdom with running down it towards a pebble filled reservoir at the base. In the center of the room on the floor is a sphere of yellow and green quarts lit underneath it so that it glows. Each of the tables have a set of lit red candles on them sitting on golden holders, framing the water features a few fireplaces dot the perimeter of the room, their orange and red glow adding light to the room and a comfortable warmth. Kayako sets their menus down on the table before moving to the side, allowing Izuku to pull Momo's chair out for her before he himself sits down.
"Can I get you two anything to drink?" Kayako asks, taking a pen and booklet from her apron.
"Some Yuzu soda for me." Momo requests, though her polite tone masks ire behind her words.
"I'll try the Azula's Lightning." Izuku responds, the drink he's asking for is a carbonated fire lily pear juice, lemon juice with sliced and stemmed birds eye chilis garnished with a cucumber and miniature chili. Momo gives him a raised eyebrow at the request of drink. "Without any cactus juice." With that, Kayako leaves but not before blowing a heart shaped smoke ring kiss to Izuku who blushes at the gesture before waving the smoke away once she turns around.
"Interesting drink request." Momo says giving Izuku a bit of a smug look. "Could I have anything to do with that decision?"
"K-kinda... I thought we could share it since..."
"I'm part Azula?"
"Yeah."
"It's funny how centuries after her death, her reputation still precedes her. Must have been one crazy woman to be known through the centuries like she is. Father says out of my siblings and even my aunt, I look the most like her." Momo says, Izuku looks upwards for a brief moment imagining what Momo would look like if she styled her hair like the murals of Azula. The mental image he concocts is near one to one with the ancient princess, though Momo has quite a bit more in the bust and curves department than her ancestor did.
"You do occasionally act like the history books say she did, especially when you get competitive." Izuku responds.
"I do, don't I? I guess that makes sense, I kinda lost myself to that competitive side when I had that Agni Kai a few weeks ago." Momo says prompting the two to share a laugh at her 'Azula side' they're interrupted by Kayako returning to the table with their drinks.
"Here you are, Azula's lightning for Avatar Izuku and a Yuzu soda for you. Have you looked at the menus?" Kayako asks, her tone changing mid sentence, as she hands Momo her drink, becoming indignant and almost rude sounding.
"Yes, can we get an order of Dragon Dumplings and Crab Rangoon puffs." Izuku requests, having remembered Momo's preference for crab since she ate it nearly every time they ate together at school.
"Oh and an order of pork belly rice balls please." Momo requests. "As for an entrée I'll have the four nation's seafood special."
"The general's feast." Izuku's choice is similar to Surf and Turf, consisting of a steamed Lobster-crab with beef tenderloin served with butter, steamed brussle-sparagus and a baked ash potato. Once she jots down the rest of their orders she leaves, once again trying obviously to get Izuku's attention but to no avail.
"Why did you choose to go to the Lu Ten academy and not the All girls academy?" Izuku asks, taking a brief sip of the pale green liquid in his glass. The sour and spicy flavors are a staple of the food of the firenation.
"Partially because of my relation to him and I wanted to go to a school that had boys in it for a change. Might seem selfish of me but growing up the only boys I ever spoke with were my brothers and father. The guards in the estate, well at least the part where I live, are all women. My friends at my middle school always talked about boys, and I only ever knew my siblings so that's why I decided to attend." Momo blushes slightly as she explains this.
"Unfortunately for you, the first two guys you met outside your family were Kacchan and Kaminari." Izuku jokes prompting the princess to giggle. "I'm surprised you even give Kacchan the time of day, much less have become friends with him."
"He's an interesting one I'll give him that, though you're not any less so. The avatar himself, and you'd go on to teach me how to redirect and even bend lightning. Don't sell yourself short just because I'm a princess. You're probably the most powerful firebender in our entire year, maybe even the school, and that's before your abilities as the avatar." Izuku once again blushes heavily at this, he hides his embarrassment in his drink using it to cover his face slightly. "I'll be right back, I'm going to use the restroom." Momo says as she stands and excuses herself from the table, though to reassure Izuku that she is coming back, she leaves her purse wrapped around her chair. "Watch my purse for me please, I won't be long." She says before walking off.
This time as Momo walks away, Izuku actually follows her as she walks through the room before rounding the corner into the small hallway off the side. Once she's out of view, he takes in a long deep breath to try to calm his nerves. Though the deep breath results in him unconsciously airbending causing a few napkins around the other tables to get sucked off the tables before being whisked into the air. The waiters are startled by the sudden acrobatics of the table setting, Kayako herself jumps as the one she just set down on a nearby table is yanked by the updraft. When she turns around, she's greeted with the sight of Izuku calmly seated alone with his eyes closed meditating. Before making her way over to him to try to make her move again, she's called to the kitchen to bring his and Momo's food to their table. The perfect excuse to go and speak with him.
"Is everything alright over here?" The buxom eighteen year old asks as she brings the platter over her shoulder to the table. "What happened to your lady friend?" She asks, feigning concern for where Momo had gone.
"Sh-she went to the r-restroom." Izuku stutters, trying to avoid looking at the highschool senior. Kayako had unbuttoned two of the buttons on her top exposing some excess cleavage to continue to try to lure him into her trap.
"That's a shame," She says, placing each plate of food in front of him. "You know..." She coos, as she leans down close to his face, her warm voice as alluring as she could muster. "My offer still stands by the way. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose. And I'd get to be called the wife of the avatar."
"I-I... I um..." Izuku barely manages to squeak out this statement as Kayako elegantly dances her fingers up the side of his arm and across his bicep. "I-I c-can't." Kayako is almost offended at his refusal, but men's minds are easily changed; they just need the right incentive.
Momo gently closes the door behind her as she leaves the restroom, the only reason she decided to even excuse herself from the table was to blow off some literal smoke. She just had to be here, she probably finagled her way into being their waiter just so she could get close to him. Even the very thought of Kayako is making Momo's blood boil, does that woman have any sense? Any class? To try to sway Izuku's attention from her in the middle of their date, how dare that woman. Rounding the corner, the fury that was boiling in Momo's veins goes nuclear. Kayako is leaning over Izuku's shoulder pointing at each dish they have while explaining what's in each. Purposefully pulling her top down so that even her areola is exposed to his line of sight, though he is attempting to resist looking at it.
As Izuku lifts a hand to the side of his face to shield himself from the view, the shortest candle on their table suddenly flickers before turning blue. The middle candle does the same, dancing slightly before turning blue, followed by the tallest candle. The heat of the blue flames causes the wax to melt away in a few seconds, extinguishing the shortest candle then shortly after the final two. Around the room, the other candles turn blue then burn down to the base, the small fires in the propane burners also turn blue and increase in intensity. Noticing the blue flames, Izuku scans the room before seeing Momo walking towards him and Kayako with fire in her eyes. Instinctively, Izuku slips below the table to avoid his date's wrath knowing that he isn't the one that brought this about. "Izuku? What are you doing?" Kayako asks before hearing Momo's heels clicking against the floor come to a stop. The princess scowls at the older teen before slapping the woman across the face for ruining their date.
"Guards. Remove her please, and get us a waiter that won't flirt with my date." Momo says sternly as Kayako is still reeling from the slap across the face. Two of the imperial firebenders enter the room before standing at Momo's side. "Kayako you have interrupted my date and dishonored me and the royal family who set up our courtship. Before this escalates any further, I ask you to leave with my guards at once." Deciding it's best not to argue with what the princess of the firenation has decreed, Kayako relents and is escorted away from the royal couple. "You can come out from under the table now, Izuku."
"I... didn't want to be on the receiving end of you going full Azula again." Izuku responds as he sheepishly makes his way out from under the table. "I'm sorry Momo."
"It's alright, Izuku, we still have our food, it's still hot and that floozy won't be interrupting our date. Let's just enjoy our time and hopefully this won't repeat itself on our next date." Momo says as she sits back down in her chair.
"Second date?"
"Of course, that is if you'll have me. I think we should just spend some time at the palace next time there would be less people interrupting us." Momo says grabbing her utensils and digging in to their meal.
