Intro (rewritten)
Norah shifts a yarn into her hand. As much as she wants to pay attention, this conversation was simply boring.
"My daddy is the CEO of a very, VERY big company. He IS amazing!"
"No way, my mom is MORE amazing! She is the best professor of a huge university! And she is rewarded with many medals."
"Shut up! Daddy is more amazing! He is making more money than your mom!"
"It's no way because my mom is the one who taught your dad how to make that money!"
"SHE'S NOT!!"
Norah's ears are pierced by the frustrated scream of the boy as he's unable to retort to his friend, making her wince. The roundabout where they're sitting shakes under his stomps.
Maybe it's her fault for choosing the wrong place to wait for her parents. But seeing they were always the last kids left in the kindergarten, the other two would likely flock around her no matter what.
Technically speaking, Norah can walk home on her own. She's already fine years old. She knows enough to walk on the pavement and even has a personal alarm that sends a distress signal directly to her parents’ powerbands and Mechabot's armor. Yet, her parents think otherwise, much to her annoyance.
They do acknowledge how Norah seems more mature than most of her peers, proved by how she had handled herself in some… incidents in the past. Even still, the idea manages to terrify them somehow. They are Asian parents, and like any typical Asian parents on Earth, Yaya has always been a helicopter parent and Boboiboy is more less a worrywart. So it isn't strange why she is here, stuck in a silly argument. Every. Single. Day.
(Unknowingly to the little girl, her family is more concerned about what trouble she might cause before it could find her).
"Nora, what about yours?"
"What about my what?" Blinking, Norah turns to see the other kids are looking at her with expectations.
"What are your parents' jobs?"
Ah, this again…
"Nothing special." She shrugs, casting her eyes back to the gate in front of them. "Mama is running Nora's great grandpa's cacao shop and papa helps catching the bad guys."
Both the other girl and the boys' eyes are immediately twinkling. They inch closer to her, excitement bubbling in their features. "Like a cop?"
"Ermm… something like that?" Norah leans back as her personal bubble is invaded. "But Nora’s papa isn't a police officer."
Well, not on Earth, anyway. Boboiboy is Captain of TAPOPS, fighting bad people and protecting power spheres. So correctly, he is a Galaxy police officer. Or her Galaxy hero, Norah can't help but puff up her chest in pride until a melancholic wave hits her.
Speaking of her papa, it has been a while since she saw him after he was off on a mission. Norah isn't lonely or something. She still has mama, grandma, uncle and two cute little brothers who practically glue to her side as soon as she gets home but…. she just wonders how her papa was right now.
"Boring~"
As expected, the two kids huffed and returned to their place. Norah merely shrugged, hardly bothered by their remark. She get used to it by now... or so she thinks.
Like many kids of her age, she also wants, desperately, to brag about her parents. However, her situation doesn't allow Norah to do so. She can't do it. Top secret. Her parents are Galaxy heroes and awesome parents come with a cost. She is taught not to tell a single soul about their real jobs, even the identities of her parents unless the situation was calling for it. Their enemies are numerous as their friends and allies. It was critical for her own safety and so was her family's.
Norah doesn't feel a bit frustrated about it, really. She isn't sulking. Not at all! Modesty is a virtue. Mama said so—
"Guess your parents aren't that important at all." One of the kids said suddenly whilst the other snickered. At once, a vein popped on her forehead.
"Excuse you?"
Norah veers her head toward them so fast that they jump. The jaws of two other kids clamp up with an audible clack. To anyone who has known her for a while, the first born of the Boboiboy household can be the sweetest, nicest girl to be around…
… or an absolute nightmare once her wrong button is pushed.
"Listening here, you." Norah hisses, jamming a finger at the girl who recoils in fear. "If Nora’s parents aren’t that important at all, ask your mother and father and yourself if you could live without mama’s special cacao?! Could you guys ever sleep well, knowing all the bad guys lurking outside without papa beating them up!?”
Heat seeps into her voice with each word. Gulping, the kid shakes her head frantically while the boy looks visibly paler.
This girl. If she is angry, she is angry and heaven had mercy on those who crossed her.
“Woah, woah. Easy there, little tiger."
Before Norah can chew these two out more, someone grabs her waist and picks her up from behind.
“Uwah— Papa!?" Norah's startled yelp turns into a pleasant surprise exclaim. "You’re home early!”
“Hey there, little star.” Boboiboy winks at her, shifting his hold so that she sits on his arm. He turns to the other children and grins friendly. “Hello you, too, kids. What are you discussing so intensely about?”
“We weren’t discussing.” Norah crosses her arms and shoots the two a look. “And they aren’t Nora’s friends. No friend of mine would talk ill about her mama and papa.”
Boboiboy is only able to chuckle awkwardly at his daughter's bluntness. However, the other kids appear too engrossed in the man before them to be offered by the jab.
“Your father is Captain Boboiboy?! Why didn’t you say sooner!?” The boy gapes up at them. His eyes shine in awe and admiration while he and the girl swoon over Boboiboy. Norah just scoffs.
“If you knew it was him, would you still say he was《not that important》?”
The kids immediately flinch, especially the girl who avoids her glare and wriggles her leg.
“W-Well, that was true, until I found out your father is Boboiboy!” She argued back weakly, only for the wrinkle on Norah's forehead deepened.
“You cannot go around and say people are less important than some others just because of their jobs.” She points out. “What if Nora said to you your parents weren’t that important? Would you be sad? It’s how others feel towards this.”
The other girl purses her lips while the boy scratches the back of his head nervously, unsure what to say. They seems to squirm under Norah's criticizing gaze until Boboiboy takes mercy on them and rescues them from her wrath.
“It's okay, little star. Don’t be so hard on them. I’m sure they learned their lesson.” He soothes her before turning to the other kids. “And I don’t think they meant it. Am I right?”
“Y-Yes. I just joked around. That's all…” The girl mumbles, cheek puffed in humiliation. Norah's eyes narrow further, but much to Boboiboy's relief, she merely lets out an irked sigh and relents.
"Better keep those jokes for yourself next time." She grumbles, tugging his shirt. "Can we go home now, papa? Nora wants to go home."
"Sure. Let's go." He smiles, kissing her cheek whilst earning him the tiniest protest noise from her. Even still, her face softened tells him Norah doesn't hate it.
Boboiboy waves goodbye to the kids. Norah, for her part, seems still displeased that the girl refused to say her apology. She at least spares the boy a small smile then turns away without a word.
Walking toward the kindergarten’s gate, Boboiboy gently bounces her on his arm as the silence hangs on them.
"Pouty face doesn't suit you, little star. Aren't you happy to see papa after a long time?"
"Papa is too soft." Norah retaliates, not bothered to deny his statement. There is no doubt she's sulking, her father notes.
"Some people just aren't worth our time, baby girl."
"Nora doesn't understand. Mama said everyone is equally important."
"Yes, everyone is important. But to some people, it's hard to admit they're wrong, even when they are wrong.” Boboiboy explains, smiling as she peeks at him through her bangs. “We can't force it on them, just as they can't force their opinions on us… For the best, we can only hope those people will come around someday."
Tilting her head, Norah tries to process his words. Her eyebrows crumbled together cutely as they walked in silence.
"Nora still doesn't understand… but Nora thinks she can forgive her?" She spoke up after a while. The corner of Boboiboy's lips curls up in pride.
"Is that what your heart said?"
With a bit of hesitation, the little girl nods, hand placing on her chest. Although there are still many things she can't put her finger on, and she still dislikes that girl, she does feel like clinging onto those emotions.
"Then you already know what to do. Follow your heart." Her father playfully rubbed his nose with hers. Finally, Norah giggled.
"What is so amusing? Could you two care to share with me?" A teasing voice chimes in. The little girl on Boboiboy's arms instantly lightens up in recognition as she whirls her head to the end of the street.
"Mama! Ihal, Ifan!"
"Sistar!"
The toddler with a white streak on his hair lets go of his mother’s hand and trotters over Norah as fast as his short legs allow. Before she attempts to jump down from his arms, Boboiboy settles her down. Without delay, Farhan tackles her whilst she laughs as both of them almost fall back by extra force.
Smiling, Yaya walks toward them with Halyan clutching her pink hijab. The boy eyes his father in wariness as he approaches them. Still, he quickly gets distracted the moment his sister calls and waves at him.
"She's your daughter, I swear." Boboiboy complains mockingly while his wife put their son down, allowing him to join with the rest of his siblings. "Were I late for a few minutes, she would have downright bit those poor kids' heads out. She has that temperament to bring people into line.”
"Really?" Yaya chortles. She leans into his side when Boboiboy sneaks an arm around her waist. "I, for once, think she was more like you, actually."
Mirth dancing in her eyes, she waves a finger before her husband's titled head.
"For instance, honey. Where's Norah's package?"
Yaya holds back her laugh the moment his smile drops off his face along with the color. Boboiboy frantically glances around him and Norah before jerking his head back to the kindergarten's gate. A flabbergastered look shows up on his face.
“... Shit!”
