Shida Reviews: Generations vol. 1

Boy do I remember saying I was gonna review some shit on my last Shida Reviews.

Yes, I, a member of the CCEU, am about to review something of the CCEU, and if you desire to stone me alive for that, just know that I'm also the guy who'd make "The Beauty of (Character Name)" for his own characters. If that triggered you, good.

Hello ladies and gentlemen, merry christmas, happy holidays, I'm Shida the man and am here for a final review before the decade ends. And what am I reviewing today? I'm reviewing the first volume of "Cardfight!! Vanguard: Generations", my brother Fox's newest book and the most recent entry of the CCEU, aswell as the fourth book of the V-Series part of the CCEU.

Before I start, do know that there will be spoilers ahead and that to make sure you go and read that book, I won't be calling some characters by their names but by what I know of them, also because I don't remember most of their names. You can thank Fox for ramming a metric fuckton of characters in your face right off the gate.

So, Generations, something Fox had been working on the background whilst also doing Z World, I gotta say I enjoyed the work ethic memes while they lasted. Generations is about GEN, this school on an island with a caste system and where the protagonist is Yuuto, Yza and Rukia's son and who, sadly, isn't an accident in the CCEU. You just had to get rid of that meme storyline, didn't you Fox? Anyway, that's as good of a plot resume as you'll get. The first volume in itself if how you'd expect. You have character introductions, first fights, rival introduction, yada yada yada, the typical volume 1 type of stuff, Fox did, I did, Cookie did it, we all that write about card games did it.

-Structure

My one issue with volume 1's format is how long it is. It has "10" chapters, but each chapter is divided into a certain amount of parts. While there is nothing wrong with that, some parts are the size of normal chapters which can be tiring. Personally, I'd say making each chapter with the same amount of parts would be for the better. Not too many, but not too little. One of the chapters had like ten parts, about a hour of reading needed.

-Characters

Now, before I go in depth into some characters, elt me start with the characters I don't like. The weird part about this is that three of them are made by the same person.

I don't like class 1-A, I don't like the two main bullies that showed up in the Yukimura SS and I don't like professor Hiden, Emica and Yukina, which are all made by Arashi (I'm sorry pog).

I don't like super cocky characters, which is basically 1-A, and I don't like bullying, so I don't like msot of the delinquents in 1-D, the only one I like being the one I created since I know how he is and why he is like that, but he only shows up in volume 2 so you have to wait like me.

I don't like Yukina because of how she is just the generic love interest for the protagonist. She's in a way the same as Fujiko. But at least she as a special thing to her, that ebing she plays Brandt in 2048. A weird choice but look at Spiral Soul, our main antagonist for now also plays Brandt, a 10 crit variant at that.

I despise Hiden since his nicknaming habit has a big rapist pedo vibe. I don't know how to explain it but it just does.

Emica is the school mega thot, it ends at that.

Now, let's talk about the protag, shall we?

So, Yuuto Takanori, the infamous son of Yza and Rukia... He is an AMAZING protagonist, but the biggest jobber the V part of this universe has seen. He managed to lose all his fights in volume 1. But besides that, he is a great protagonist. I'll try to avoid comparing characters from other books but in this case, when it comes to Yuuto, he beats Yozora and alot fo Ryuuga during Spiral Terra as protagonists.

When it comes to Z World, I like Yozora as a character, he has layers. But as a protag, I feel that during the first part of Z World, Ryuzaki, Callum and Zeonw ere the protags, and that in the second half so far, Zeon has been more of a protag. Also he becomes a prick after the big reveal, like jesus christ dude, stop bitching already.

Like Fox said in his review of Spiral Terra, after Ryuuga hits his peak and let's go of his nervous and shy side, he just becomes the heoric type of protag and gets sort of boring at times.

Yuuto, on the other hand, is a pretty good protag. Right off the gate, he is not a dumb dumb. He is smart and the planning type and his interactions with some characters are very good. His dinenr with Suzune? Wholesome as hell. The moment he decided to avenge Yukina in the war? What a lad.

He plays Narukami and I don't have much to say about that, it's a good deck so okay. Juts syaing it now but I won't mention the decks character use unless it's relevant or funny.

When we talk about Yuuto, we have to talk about the big man in the room and one of the characters who is very important for his delevopment, that one of my favourite characters, Kaido Mikazuchi.

Student of 3-A, owner of a yacht, super good player and the son of Ryuzaki. And of course, a character made by me, so you know I have a soft spot for him.

When it comes to Kaido in GEN, I like him. He adds this fiery rivalry that the story needs and he is an important thing in Yuuto's path as a character and as a protagonist. He is the big boss at the end of the road, the final fight, the ultimate opponent.

But I don't have a whole lot to say about Kaido since he is my character and a Spiral series character too, there isn't alot I can say. He has a yacht, he'll sue your ass for disrepecting him in his yacht and he plays Granblue.

Quick thing on the rest of the ycht crew: Strelzia is a fucking unit, she beat the 1-E leader during the war, Emma is best girl and the Yuu-kun meme is yet another addition to Sakate's colelction of memes where he is included. As if Vermillion wasn't enough, we now have Yuu-kun and eventually a special other meme involving a character who has heart attacks faster than old people. Ok boomer.

Alright, class 1-E, who shall recieve my wrath first...

Matsushita. You suck as a class leader and as a fighter.

Mitsuba, don't waste your points in cardboard. The XVR Overlord wasnt worth it.

Alice. I like that she is from France and all of that but that isn't used alot and I think it should. If she doesn't end up with Yukimura, I will boycott Generations. I dont even remember what the hell she uses.

Yukimura. I love him. He's one of my favourite characters, he truly is, but breaking an ikemen's legs isn't fine. He plays the superior deck.

Nora is a trap, change my mind.

Demiza... I mean, at least we now know Backlion got some. Good for him. He deserves it after Re:Isekai, Zeon nearly shoving a stick up his ass and listening to Kakusei's shit in the latest Z World chapter. Either play MIGHT IS RIGHT or get out of my sight.

You heard my two cent son Yukina, I don't like her because she feels basic to me. slo in the SS, it's revealed she either knew or found out about the caste system and yet didn't said anything.

You heard my two cents on Yuuto, I love him as a character and as a protag, and his family situation is somehow more fucked up than Raijin's was back in the good ol' Thunderous Rebellion days.

I love Aki, he's another of my favourite characters, but mostly because he is Zeon's son and I really like Zeon as a character. Stop playing DI and go play Fuzencongo.

As for the rest of the class.. Eh. They're forgettable

As for their teacher, I like her. She was ruthless as all fuck during the big caste system reveal. The one weird thing about her is that the nickname given to her by Hiden is the one nickname I can accept. Chacha-sensei is hilarious.

Let's talk class 1-E. I like them. They have John Grassfields, the OG bruv, they have Zyriot without being a spider (some people will wonder what this all means) and they have Takenaka, one of my characters who I like since he is a true gentleman delinquent. Oh and their homeroom teacher is Ryuzkai, that's a pog.

1-C has Suzune, I hope she becomes Yuuto's girlfriend, okay we're done.

1-B... All I know is that they have Maverick's daughter and I wish Fox would have told me about her existence for me to name drop her in Spiral Terra and Spiral Soul (but then Ichinose being Maverick's daughter is just a meme and this whole paragraph gets cucked).

Fuck 1-A, thought their leader is sort of cool.

X is the shadow man of Generations and is a communist, change my mind.

I don't like Gen's Royalty.

Now let's talk about the big guns, Ryuzaki himself.

It's Ryuzaki, he's great in anys tory he appears. He kicks the shit out of Yuuto, he makes Yuuto talk about Nora fucking Yukina, he is the best teacher.

-Fights

It's a Vanguard story, we're talking about fights.

Aight, so first... Yuuto vs Ryuzaki.

Yuuto manages to get himself the title of worst student by losing. Congrats.

Yuuto vs Yukina? That is just me vs Fox in CFA while Im playing Brandt.

Yuuto vs Kaido was fireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee except for the part when Fox wrote that Kaido used Guding Zombie as a starter, ran Scaredick and called Greed Shade without using his skill.

The other times Yuuto fought Kaido? That was just Yuuto disrespecting Kaido on his yacht. Yuuto is asking to be sued.

I don't remember what other fights happened, but you should go check it out for me.

-The Caste System

Fuck the caste system, it triggers me. I'm a defender of equality, not on a communist level, so I'm sort of triggered by the caste system. There are times when I desire Yukimura to bash in the heads of some students against a table.

Overall, the first volume of Generations is solid and gets the work of a first volume done. I recommend it. Also i'm pulling the good ol' best moments worst/moments thing for the other reviews.

Best Moments: Yuuto vs Kaido, any time Kaido is on screen, Yuuto planning how to make class E better, Suzune calling Yuuto a virgin loser

Worst Moments: Any time classe 1-A was on-screen

Volume Rating: 8/10

With all of that said, I wish you a merry christmas and happy holidays. Have fun in the new decade.

P.S.: Fox you own me a review of the first Spiral Soul arc now.
