Part 02: Chapter 03

When the New Year's holidays ended and spring really arrived, the food supplies were almost running out so the pack had to make a buy when the first fair of the season took place. Not only that, but Yoongi also needed to get more fabric to sew new clothes as he barely fit his shirts anymore. These days he had to be covered in his alpha's shirts. Though he always complained about himself looking silly in baggy thigh-length tops, his mates found him adorable and showered him with compliments. Yoongi couldn't help but blushed all the time. Today, he was wearing Namjoon's sweater and Jimin's jacket, and alpha's scent of cold morning mist mixed with white musk subtly made him feel so relaxed and fresh.

Waiting for Taehyung to ride the carriage out of the stable, Yoongi stood on the porch checking the toasts under the dark green felt in the rattan basket. They planned to bring those toasts to Jimin's farm once they'd bought the spring supplies. Around the time when Yoongi was so tired of morning sickness that he couldn't go to the teahouse to work, Jimin had to come to help Taehyung often, so his work at the farm was all carried out by the farmhand boys. Yoongi wanted to thank them.

"Let's go, we have to get the preeminent fabric roll at the fair before the stupid rich dumpy omega quinquagenarian comes and picks them all up." Taehyung took the basket in Yoongi's hand, his other hand hastily wrapped the scarf around Yoongi's neck, and walked briskly towards the carriage. He looked like a child who was excited about going to buy one of a kind new toy but at the same time was afraid that the toy would fall into the hands of the kid he detested the most before he arrived at the shop.

"Come on, Tae, please behave," Yoongi said and chuckled. He waddled to the carriage and was helped by Taehyung to get in. He continued as the younger rode away.

"Calling someone stupid and dumpy is not nice. You can't tell those words before this little one," Yoongi gestured to his slightly curved belly and Taehyung followed his eyes to his hands, pouting.

"But she was rude to us first. She talked the worst untrue things about Minie and Seokie. I will never forgive her for that, the ugly stupid rich dumpy quinquagenarian."

"I remember one time she called you weirdo because of the strange words you used," Yoongi could not hide his smile when he recalled what happened. Taehyung looked a little bit shocked. His nose and his ears became red, not because of the anger but the coldness of early spring morning. He was so lovely that Yoongi wanted to smoosh his cheeks.

"I almost forgot it!" Taehyung said in a disgruntled voice but quickly burst into fake laughter.

"I don't remember what I said, but she didn't seem to understand so she called me an annoying weirdo, ew."

"She thought you were arrogant when you said words she didn't understand. I think you should use simpler words when talking to her."

"How?"

"Instead of ugly stupid rich dumpy quinquagenarian, you could call her Mrs. Quack Quack."

Taehyung frowned, curious.

"What's that?"

Yoongi couldn't help but laugh before he explained. He placed his hand on his belly out of habit, and his shoulders shook humorously.

"A duck quacking the nonsense?"

"Oh my God, my beloved, you are so mean!"

Their giggles resounded as they passed through the White Wedding Ceremony of Dreams with English Primrose. Maybe this spring would be better than ever.

As predicted, Mrs. Quack Quack bought all of the best fabric rolls at the fair. Yoongi comforted Taehyung, who was pouting like a kid losing his candy, that he just wanted to buy average and minimal colors fabrics anyway because the clothes were only going to be worn for a few more months. Well, he didn't think he could get pregnant one more time to touch those clothes again.

After buying enough food and clothing, they went to the fruit stall to buy some citrus. Taehyung always stood beside Yoongi and wrapped his arms around his waist protectively. Yoongi could tell the younger was a bit anxious when they were in a noisy place. The first spring fair was often busier than other fairs, and the more crowded the places, the easier it is to cause unwanted collisions. Despite being an omega, Taehyung's instinct to protect his mates is not any less strong than any alpha, which made Yoongi feel safe whenever he was around him. Though Yoongi was the hero who killed enemies to save Taehyung's life before, he also needed protecting and cherishing.

"They're just hindering our trade," Yoongi overheard the fruit seller whining as he picked tangerines to put in his basket. Taehyung was still on guard, restlessly watching around as the heavy carts were pushed behind them, worried they would run into Yoongi.

"Who?" Yoongi asked and the seller tipped his chin towards the farm implements stall. The man answered annoyedly.

"The Military Police. These days they keep walking around many stalls to investigate something. Heard it's related to a crime in the Capital."

"It is a smuggling case. My brother that is a friend of the brother-in-law of the husband of Mr. Major General's daughter told me." Mrs. Quack Quack suddenly appeared at the stall next to the fruit stall in a flashy yellow puffy dress. Taehyung glanced at her and pouted.

"Heard the criminals smuggled iron through our town's seaport. In order to do this successfully, there must be their partners around." The voice of Mrs. Quack Quack was sour and unbearably arrogant, but Yoongi couldn't deny that the information she gave was helpful. This town might have criminals so surely their lives would be turned a bit upside down. When he worked at the teahouse, he thought he would have to keep an eye on the guests who came by.

"Isn't the foreign lightkeeper the most suspicious?" Mrs. Quack Quack deliberately spoke for Yoongi and Taehyung to hear.

"He must have used the lighthouse to signal smugglers."

"Excuse me," Yoongi grimaced. He turned to the woman and continued.

"Do you know that blaming others without evidence is also illegal?"

"Did I say something wrong?" She cocked her head, hands on her hips.

"Your mate is from the fucking enemy country; he certainly has bad intentions to break the rules of ours."

"Hey, his country was no longer our enemy ten years ago!" Taehyung stepped in front of Yoongi, facing the woman messing with them, and growled angrily.

"And my mate will never intend to commit a crime. So you shut the fuck up, Mrs. Quack Quack!"

"What the hell is Mrs. Quack Quack?" She gaped, her eyes red as if she were about to cry, then aggressively rolled up her sleeves and grabbed Taehyung's hair.

"Who are you to talk to me in that fucking ton-" Before she could finish her sentence, Mrs. Quack Quack suddenly screamed in pain as her wrist was gripped by Yoongi. He stared at her furiously, his jaw clenched.

"Who the fuck are you to touch him like that? Get your fucking dirty hands off my mate!"

"Jesus Christ, you're fucking insane!"

The woman shouted and Yoongi could clearly see her tears welling before she hastily turned to her carriage. Yoongi only exhaled a sigh of relief when Taehyung rubbed his shoulder and placed a kiss on his temple.

"What a bad day but I'm fine."

"Let's go, I don't want to be here anymore." Yoongi put his hand on his stomach, closing his eyes to calm his breathing. Taehyung nodded and led him towards their horse.

"I hope our minuscule fairy budy didn't hear those bad words," Taehyung said as he rode the carriage away from the fair.

"I don't mind if they could hear. When they grow up, I will teach them how to protect themselves and the people they love if necessary." Yoongi leaned on Taehyung's shoulder and gently caressed his abdomen.

"I'm sure when our budy grows up, they will know how to protect us."

Taehyung responded and sniffed his mate's fragrant hair when they went to where he called the Viridescent Meadow of Hope. The sun reached its peak to radiate warm spring sunshine, the weather was so nice, so Yoongi smiled so tenderly.
