Chapter 14: Flowers

"Daddy?" A young voice called, searching through the field of vibrant yellow flowers.

A little girl trudged through the flowers and tall, thin grass, searching for her father. She put on a white sun hat (one far too big for her head), and stood on her tiptoes. Her bright blue eyes searched for the man she called her father, but could not find him to any avail. She suddenly felt something behind her...

"Boo!"

The young girl screamed and fell into the arms of the person who scared her.

"Daddy! That's not funny!" She yelled angrily, pushing the man away.

The man chuckled, "Aw I'm sorry, Princess! But it kinda was!"

The girl looked up at her father and frowned. Sunlight reflected off of his dark hair, and mischief danced in his blue eyes. He had a crooked smile framed by a beard that was just a little longer than stubble. The white sun hat fell over the young girl's eyes and her father laughed harder.

"I told you Mommy's sun hat would be too big for you..." He chuckled, fixing his daughter's hat.

The young girl's face turned red and she looked away, crossing her arms, "It's not too big! You're just wrong!"

The man laughed nervously, "Okay, Princess."

The man's eyes suddenly landed on something in the distance. He put his daughter down in the grass and flowers and laid on his stomach carefully. His daughter followed his actions when he gestured for her to do so.

"Look, Hilda." He whispered, pointing to something in front of him.

Hilda raised her eyebrows and followed her father's gaze. Not too far away from them, standing in a tiny clearing, was a small Pokémon with dark fur and big ears.

The Pokémon stretched out and yawned, it's big ears folding back. Once the action had been completed, the gray Pokémon shook its fur and licked its red paws.

"That Pokémon is called 'Zorua'," Hilda's father whispered, "They sometimes call it 'The Master of Illusions'."

"Wow!" Hilda gasped.

The Pokémon's ear twitched and it whipped its head in Hilda's direction. Two sets of blue eyes met and held each other's gaze for a few seconds before the Pokémon scurried off.

Hilda stood up and held an arm out, trying to somehow reach the Pokémon and convince it to stop.

"Don't go!" Hilda called out. She turned around to find her father missing.

"Daddy?" She called.

No response.

"Daddy!?"

Hilda awoke to sunlight streaming in through the thin Pokémon Center curtains. She squinted and found her Pokémon lying around the room in various spots. She groaned, remembering how her dream ended. It shouldn't have bothered her, considering that old memory always ended that way in her dreams, but it was not something she needed right before her gym match.

She buried her face in her pillow, determined to get at least five more minutes of sleep.
