4. Fear

~Levy~

I woke up to a large hand smoothing out my hair, causing me to hum softly. "Honey... It's Saturday." I groaned quietly. Gajeel chuckled slightly, kissing my cheek, "I know, but I'm in need of your assistance. Not that kind," he reprimanded softly as my hands began to wander. I pouted and finally opened my eyes to look up at him, my frown deepening when I saw he was already dressed. "Where are you going?" I asked, propping myself up on my elbow and rubbing my eyes. "We. We are going to India." I paused, "Huh?" Gajeel chuckled again, "I need you to go demon hunting with me. Mavis thinks it would be best if we team up with each other. Extra power and all."

I pouted again, "So it's not because you want me to go with you." Gajeel snorted, kissing me softly. "I always want you to go with me, but I want you to stay safe here. But," he frowned, his brows pulling together. "Things have been getting strange. Demons who normally wouldn't go near each other are now teaming up, working together. I was hoping to use your brain in trying to figure out why." I frowned as I slowly got up and stretched. "Well whose been teaming up?" I asked as I started pulling clothes out of the closet and getting dressed. "Yesterday it was a wendigo and a rakshasa." I paused pulling on my shirt, turning to give him a look. "My thoughts exactly," he snorted. I shook my head as I finished getting dressed, "That's not right. Wendigo are solitary, only made in extreme conditions and are quite rare. And Rakshasa barely tolerate each other. What the hell?" I muttered as I thought, hand on my chin. I was so deep in thought I jumped slightly when Gajeel nudge me, handing me my boots.

I muttered a thanks before pulling them on, "Are we going to leave Waylen with Cana then?" I asked as we headed for the kitchen. Gajeel shook his head, "No, Laxus is taking her. It gets extra teams out there. Lucy said she'd take the brats." I smiled and nodded. Lucy wasn't able to go on missions anymore, as she was expecting her own child. Natsu waited on her hand and foot, always making sure his wife was happy and taken care of.

In the kitchen, Waylen was already at the table, eating scrambled eggs and still in his pajamas. I looked at Gajeel, offered me a plate of eggs from the counter. "You got up really early today." He chuckled, "Mavis said it was urgent. Wouldn't let me sleep," we glanced up to the ceiling as we spoke, knowing she could hear us. "Where are you going dad?" Waylen asked as he finished his breakfast. "India on a demon hunt, and your mother is going with me. You will be staying with Karyn at Lucys today." Gajeel told him as I quickly ate my own breakfast. "What are you guys fighting?" He asked excitedly. Waylen had always been interested in the different types of demons and angels, he always had a thirst for knowledge. He even had a notebook he kept with a list of all the demons we told him about.

Gajeel grinned as he sat between us, "Know what an agramon is kid?" Waylen frowned slightly as he thought. "It's a demon of fear," Gajeel told him after a moment. "It creates horrifying visions to paralyze it's victims before killing them. This one has teamed up with a small group of Kostchtchie, death goblins. Nasty little things," Gajeel went on telling Waylen about the demons, and I frowned. Agramon are solitary creatures, picking off mortals in the dead of night. The fact that it would team up with a group of goblins didn't sit right and I couldn't seem to wrap my head around just why it would in the first place. I jumped slightly as a hand landed on my shoulder, brining me from my thoughts. "Kid went to get ready. You alright?" Gajeel asked, a small frown on his face. I shook my head, "Why would they team up? They are about as different as you can get." Gajeel pressed a kiss to my head as I continued to mutter. "That's why I need my brilliant why beside me. We'll figure it out," I smiled and nodded before standing.

Waylen came back in, trying to smooth down his unruly black hair as he went. I smiled softly and went to him, gently fixing his hair as he swatted at me softly. "Moooom," he whined slightly and I giggled. I ignored him as I continued straightening him out, unruffling a few of his feathers and placing a kiss on his cheek. I giggled as his face turned slightly pink and he hid behind Gajeel, "Stop tormenting the boy," he said with a chuckle, ruffling the hair I had just straightened out. I pouted as he grinned and lead Waylen outside, with me trailing behind. It was a short flight to Lucy and Natsus place, the three of us diving in and out of clouds as we went. Waylen landed in front of the small house, nestled deep in the woods away from the city. We often thought it a bad idea to live with a fire demon in a rather flammable area, but Lucy assured us it was safe. Waylen knocked excitedly on the door as we landed behind him, his tail flicking back and forth behind him. We could hear shuffling around inside before the door opened, "Huge!" Waylen gaped, his tail stilling in surprise.

Gajeel gave a quick smack to the back of our sons head before smiling at the very large Lucy in front of us. "Sorry bout that." Lucy giggled and shook her head as she rubbed her swollen stomach, "Natsu does it all the time. No big deal. The joys of having twins," she said fondly. I smiled as she seemed to glow with happiness, "You sure you don't mind watching Waylen for the weekend?" I asked. Lucy grinned, "Of course! He'll have Karyn here, and we can all go into town later! Perfect time to practice human disguise." I smiled and nodded. I turned to Waylen as Gajeel released him from a hug and I gently kissed his head, "Be good for Aunt Lucy," I said with a small smile. He nodded, "I love you sweetie," I told him and he huffed slightly. "Love you too mom," I smiled and turned away with Gajeel, taking off into the air again.

The flight to India was a long one, and we had to stop in the Philippines for a rest. After an hour we were airborne again and were soon in India. We landed on the coast and quickly hid our forms. We were in Diu, and head north towards the national park there. "So what's the plan dear?" I asked as we got farther away from the city. "Mavis said they were last seen around here, so we are going to scout the area and hopefully pick up their trail."

We walked for a long time, eventually cutting through a field as I caught the scent of the goblins. It was hard to miss, even Gajeel, without heightened senses, could catch their putrid scent. A small village soon peaked over the field, and smoke was rising in thick black columns. Gajeel and I broke into a run as the sound of screams reached us. A group of six goblins, no taller than myself, rampaged through the village, their weapons stained red with the blood of the villagers. The agramon was no where to be seen yet, and it had my nerves on edge.

Gajeel drew his sword, his armor covering his skin as he dashed into the chaos. A goblin raced towards me and I raised my hands skyward, causing the ground to convulse and surge, sending the demon skyward. Magic coursed through my veins as I pulled a blade of pure energy from thing air. As the goblin fell I slashed the sword towards it, sending a beam of magic clean through it. I was splattered with putrid blood as it fell in two. An immense power surged behind me and I lept to the side, narrowly avoiding a similar magical burst. I spun on my heel and raised my sword to guard, facing of with the agramon. It's skin was an angry red, as if riddled with burns, its hulking mass would give Laxus a run for his money. Thick black smoke circled him, his large blood red eyes staring me down. "You are the one who sealed our master away." He suddenly said and I stiffened.

"So your one of Lucifers followers huh? What are you doing teaming up with the little stink bags?" I asked as we slowly circled each other. The agramon snorted, "That is none of your concern. Come with me Giest, we need you alive after all." It was my turn to snort. "My blood wont be enough demon, and Gajeel is too strong for you to take on." I said with a smirk. It was quickly wiped off my face as he began to laugh. "You're right. He is to strong for me to take on... Alone." My eyes widened as his words sank in. That's why their teaming up! To over power us!! I lunged forward, a battle cry leaving my lungs as I sent a wave of energy towards him. The demon dodged, retaliating with a blast of his own. I hissed as the wave sliced my arm but I didn't stop. I shot skyward, holding my blade above my head as I aimed downwards. The agramon threw his hand forward as my energy wave came down, the black smoke swirling him rising to meet me. I was vaguely aware of his pained cry as the smoke enveloped me.

I reeled back, coughing and choking as my surroundings became inky black and the noise of the village cut off. Shit! I'm caught in a nightmare! I took a deep breath, reminding myself that whatever I see, it isn't real. "My my," His voice seemed to echo around me in the darkness as light slowly started filling in around me. "What's this?" I gasped as our kitchen appeared before me. I was a spectator, watching as Gajeel, Waylen and I happily ate and talked. "Lucifer will be excited to hear of my discovery. An offspring would be very useful." I growled, "You wont get near my son! Come out and fight me you bastard!" The demon laughed as the scene shifted, and I was suddenly back in hell. The heat was stifling, but that was not what had me gasping. "Mom!!!" Waylens scream echoed off the walls.

It was my nightmare again.

I can't watch this again, I will not watch my son die! I took off, speeding towards his scream. In the back of my mind I knew I had to stop, Waylen was safe at Lucys, this wasn't real, but his screams scrambled my mind. I couldn't let anything happen to him. Before I could reach him, a voice shouted out to me. "Levy wake up!!" It was Gajeel, trying to pull me from the darkness. The demon laughed again and I growled, halting my flight. I gathered all of the magic I had, preparing to break through the nightmare. The air swirled around me, and I had to shut out the fake sound of my sons screams that threatened to overtake me with fear.

Air swirled around me as my energy built, filling me to the point of bursting. I curled in on myself, holding the magic close to me as it built stronger, before throwing it outwards with a strained cry. The illusion vanished, blown away like smoke in a storm. I was back in the village, the agramon staring at me wide eyed, fear in his own eyes for once. I glared at him as I drew on what was left of my magic, sending it to him in an all out wave with my blade. He screamed as the energy crashed into him, easily bisecting him. I panted heavily as I watched his corpse fall, and I was suddenly exhausted. My sword vanished and I swayed, nearly falling before a pair of strong arms pulled me against a familiar chest. "Good job Lev."
