The Woods

Dipper hurried after his sister, pulling on his jacket as he ran outside, the wind buffeting his face and whipping his hair around. Mabel raced ahead of him, laughing, as she disappeared in the undergrowth.

The day seemed a bit overcast for the summer afternoon, the sky a cloudy grey and a strong feeling of rain on the horizon.

"Mabel!" Dipper called nervously, rushing after her. "Mabel, come on!"

Her cheer echoed in front of him, followed by a loud squeal. Dipper's feet sped across the ground as he picked up the pace, shoving bush branches aside as he ran by. He came to an abrupt halt in a small clearing and sighed in relief as he saw Mabel kneeling down, playing with a small chipmunk.

Dipper smiled, walking over to his sister and crouched beside her as her gentle hand stroked the brown creature. "He's so fuzzy..." She whispered, grinning.

Her head suddenly snapped around and her attention was trained on a small bush. The chipmunk she was petting stood up, and scampered off to the bush where two baby chipmunks emerged. Mabel grinned, nudging Dipper softly.

Her male twin smiled faintly and stood up, padding over to the center of the clearing and opened his book, which his sister had given back before they left. Flipping through his journal, Dipper's eyes quickly scanned the pages, searching for some new spookum or monster to look for.

Waving goodbye to her new friends, Mabel stood up and walked over to Dipper, glancing over his shoulder at the journal. Her face lit up as a page fluttered by and she stuck her hand in the book, flipping the page back to the previous one. "How 'bout this one?"

Dipper took one look at the page and peered uneasily at his sister. "I...I don't know, Mabes... Remember what happened last time...?"

Mabel nodded quickly, smirking happily now. "Yeah, but it could be different this time. Maybe he's changed!"

"Doubtful," Dipper scoffed, bending down and setting the journal on the ground, kneeling next to it. Mabel remained standing, glancing around at the forest for signs of their old..."pal." And their pal wasn't the chipmunks.

Dipper scanned the page and sighed, giving into his sister's pleas and began to chant an incantation. "Triangulum, entangulum, metephorius, dominous mensium. Metaphorus phenensius omnium. Hemstrohevscees, hemstrohevscees, hemstrohevscees, hemstrohevscees, hemstrohevsees!!!" His and Mabel's eyes suddenly turned bright blue and they grunted in pain.

Mabel chuckled quietly to herself as everything around them seemed to slow down, turning ominous shades of white, grey, and black. A nearby woodpecker, pecking a tree, slowed to an abrupt halt, its beck in a ready position above the bark. A small bumblebee zipped by, its wings suddenly stopped moving, but left the insect hovering in the air. Even the trees stopped swaying.

An all too recognizable loud laugh echoed through the forest, Mabel and Dipper looked around for its source, their eyes normal again, the twins seeming to both be their ordinary colors and same speeds.

"Well, well!" A voice called. "Looks like someone couldn't get enough of Mr. Cipher, eh?"

A bright flash momentarily blinded the twins, a rainbow triangle forming in the sky, looking down at the siblings.
