sixteen

eva ran through the airport, reminiscent of a dear time she held in her heart as the greatest moment of her life. why had she ruined that? who knows. she was an idiot, who didn't think other people. ana was right, she was heartless.

she spotted it, the brown ponytail, pulling up neatly, high on the head. the loud, accented english, the pilot's uniform.

eva wasn't put together. her hair was pulled up messily, a bun in the back of her head. she wasn't wearing makeup, her eyes were bloodshot. she wore a pair of sweats, a light t-shirt dawned over it. she was only here for one reason.

"ana!" she cried out, wiping the tear that slipped from her eye. "i'm sorry. i- i didn't mean it, i swear to god. i didn't..."

the hungarian woman turned around, her face full of confusion. she looked as if maybe there wasn't a reason to turn back, despite eva standing there, pouring her heart out.

ana started walking back, stopping just a few feet from eva. "i know you didn't, evgeniya. i know you didn't. but it still happened."

"it did happen, and i'm a shitty, terrible person for letting it happen. i didn't want this. i only want you." she whispered, looking around at the eyes that had landed on the couple. "i'm sorry..."

"stop! stop apologizing. i don't forgive you! i don't. i can't!" ana shouted, looking around. "come here."

the kazakh woman allowed herself to be led away by ana, their hands gently clasped together, towards the bathroom, which didn't provide complete privacy, but was better than nothing. the door squeaked as it opened, greeted with the loud sounds of air dryers and toilets flushing.

they pushed open the largest stall, locking the door behind them.

"ana, i-"

"no, evgeniya, don't say anything. it's my turn to talk," she sighed, rubbing her face tiredly. "if you think i don't love you, you're wrong. i do, more than anything. but i hate you, i do. i can't help it, i feel such animosity toward you, every bad part of you. you slept with a man. another man. you're the love of my life, you are. my soul mate. but you made choices that i HATE. i can't stand them. and you know what? i don't know why. i don't know if i want to know why. but you did this, eva. you did."

"you want to know why, ana? i thought it was obvious. we don't connect like we used to. we fall apart, we fight, we yell." eva whispered through a barely parted mouth, her eyes teary, pain in her every movement. "you aren't the girl that spilled soup on me, anymore. you're just another woman. and yes, you are the woman i love. nothing will ever change that. but you aren't the same. you're tired, you're angry, you just aren't mine. not anymore."

the muslim woman felt emotions flood into her mind, her hands shaking, with fury, with a rush started by her own words. salty tears streamed down her skin as she collapsed to the floor. she buried her face in her hands, sobs racking her body, gasping for air.

ana bent down, touching her right hand to eva's cheek. eva could feel the coolness in her skin, the tears wiped away softly. "i love you, my darling. i will always, always love you. nothing in my life will change that. i know, you did that. you made a mistake, we all do. it's simply human, it is. i... i forgive you."

evgeniya looked up, the whites of her eyes reddened softly. "i don't deserve to be forgiven. you were right, i am awful. i deserve to be hated, for my actions, for everything i did. don't forgive me, it has no purpose when i cannot forgive myself."

"no, you are beautiful, my love. my darling. you are perfect," ana whispered shakily, placing her other hand on her girlfriend's cheek, "don't say that. i forgive you. you deserve forgiveness. i.. i love you."

eva allowed her hands to be pulled away from her face, as she met the gaze of her better half. the two sat for a moment, just staring into each others' eyes. brown met green, as they had all those years ago. true love strengthened their bond, and they truly were inseperable in that moment. not even the scream of the air-dryer, or the screech of the door could distract them. they were in love.

"marry me, ana."
