The Seeds Of Distrust

"A little this and a little that~" Monokuma hummed, examining his razor sharp claws. He looked rather nonchalant, but his posture and threatening weapon were all the warning the students needed to be weary.

Lyric hated the fact that she was trembling. She hated that she couldn't find the courage within her to demand answers, or to run forward and try shaking Samantha or Cody awake. Why was she so weak!? Then again she had always been more or less of a coward. A coward that wanted to change so bad, but couldn't. Or maybe wouldn't. However Andrew, who had stood quietly behind her now came to her side. "Lets go get them." He softly said, before he began to make his way to the front. Weaving through his fellow 'classmates'. After another moment Lyric followed, overcoming the shock that had temporarily frozen her to her spot.

Slowly the student body was coming to grasps with the situation at hand, "W-We won't just kill each other!?" Lily Belle fearfully protested, her eyes darting around at everyone else. Everyone exchanged glances, analyzing each other as if they were a new threat. "R-Right?" She hesitantly pressed, having received no certain response.

The Ultimate Florist was quick to agree, "I won't! I could never k-kill someone!" Jasmine said, putting her own conviction behind her words. Still the air was heavy with fear as well as something else. It was a force that no one could ignore. Even Caden, Jasmines brother, didn't verbally agree. However there was little doubt in anyone's mind that the Ultimate Bodyguard wouldn't purposefully harm his little sister. Monokuma, content with what he had just started, quietly exited the Gym.

As the conversation continued, Andrew and Lyric reached their two unconscious classmates side. From what Lyric could tell, Cody was already beginning to stir. Which was a relief. Her concern turned to Samantha then. It worried her that she appeared to be injured, which brought about the question. Who had done it? "Come on Cody, just wake up..." Andrew muttered, having grasped the boy's left shoulder and begun shaking it in his attempts to wake him. Meanwhile Lyric gently lifted Samantha into a more upright position, doing her best to not touch Samantha's broken arm at all. Even though it seemed to be in a cast, the timid girl was not going to take any chances.

"I don't really like this unrainbow air man...." Liam admitted in a rather terrible whisper. Corey, who he'd been whispering to, looked semi-uncomfortable, but nodded in agreement all the same. After all no one really liked the tense air that had fallen upon the gym.

What united the group's attention's however was the fact that Cody finally woke. "Hey everyone!" Andrew called, cutting right through the strained silence they had all fallen into. "Cody's regained consciousness." He informed them, backing up a bit to allow Cody to sit up on his own.

The student's of class 82 gathered around, fully intent on grilling him for information. Dylan stepped up to the bat first, "Explain where you were this morning, in detail." He demanded. Not an ounce of pity or concern in his tone. Honestly sometimes he could be more frightening than Katlyn....

Having barely been given any time to comprehend where he was, and what had happened, it was no surprise that the Ultimate Counselor was pretty frazzled. "H-Heh uh can someone tell me whats going on first? Please?" Cody asked. His head felt pretty fuzzy if he was gonna be honest. Almost like someone had stuffed cotton in it.

Emma was about to readily provide an answer, but was silence easily by Katlyn. It appeared that the time they had spent together in the kitchen earlier had not succeeded in furthering their friendship. If one could even consider that the two had a friendship. After all, Katyln got along with a select few alone it seemed. "It wouldn't hurt for you to answer us first, and then receive an adequate answer to your question. After all you could change your story to make yourself look more innocent if you have done something wrong. Or suspicious." Katlyn pointed out, removing the cold hand that she had placed over Emma's mouth. To the cook's relief.

"Just because your suspicious of him doesn't mean you have to treat him like an enemy-or a c-criminal right off the bat!" Lyric spat. She could just feel the suspicion in the room rising, and it made her skin crawl. She wanted to get away, to just escape to her dorm room or some quiet room. These factors all led to her unusual behavior.

Some didn't care at all about Lyric's statement, but others that had noticed her truly timid nature seemed a bit more taken aback. And if any of them were planning on treating Cody in the same hostile manner, toned it down a notch. It was easy for Cody to also realize that Lyric was feeling overwhelmed and stressed, but there wasn't much he could do for the time being. To his relief Alex came over and gently tapped her shoulder. Lily Belle and Emma took Lyric's place of holding Samantha in a more comfortable sitting position, while Alex led Lyric a bit away from the crowd to cool off and grab her bearings. "Fine, I'll tell. Although I don't know why you don't know already..." The Ultimate Counselor sighed, and got to his feet, stretching in the process.

A few people moved back some to give him more space to do so. "How the heck would we know?! You didn't bother to tell anyone." Genevieve stated, voicing most of the group's thoughts. Although this did earn her a warning glare from Jasmine. A reminder to not cuss in front of Lily Belle. "What-I didn't cuss! You all heard me, I said heck, not whatever I would have normally said!" She protested, crossing her arms as well as shifting most of her weight onto one leg. Meanwhile Cody was thinking over what Genevieve had said. 'Did they really not hear it?' He wondered. While he was doing that, the Ultimate Impersonator wasn't done gripping it seemed. Or was this just all for fun, since she enjoyed imitating others? Who knows. "Don't cuss around the precious innocent bean." Genevieve muttered, imitating Jasmines voice perfectly. Well-almost. If one thought about it, there was a distinct difference between the two, but either way it was pretty darn close. Jasmine just rolled her eyes instead of retaliating.

The Ultimate Counselor took a moment to massage his temples, feeling the dull pains of a possible headache in the back of his skull. He hopped this wouldn't raise his classmates suspicions of him more. "I woke up to Monokuma's morning announcement, like most of you all probably did, at 7:00 am. As usual I was tired so it took me a few minutes to drag myself out of bed and dressed. The announcements had ended before I got out of bed, but after I was done getting dressed they seemed to come on again. So I just assumed he had another announcement to make."

___________________________He was only half-dressed when Monokuma came on the broadcast again, which somewhat surprised him. The bear's appearance from the previous announcements hadn't changed. He was still wearing a blue suit with a red tie, and was still sitting at the same desk with the microphone. Cody finished dressing as the bear spoke, in one of the replica's of his current outfit that had apparently been provided. "Cody Williams please report to the entrance hall. Cody Williams please report to the entrance hall." Monokuma said, before bringing out a slideshow clicker and pressing the red button on it. A map of the school appeared on screen, as well as with a red line that led from his room to the Entrance Hall. In case he'd forgotten where the big metal seal that was helping keep them trapped was. How considerate. Cody didn't like the idea of going to this 'meeting' or whatever it was, but he had a feeling that going against Monokuma like this wouldn't earn him favor at all with the headmaster. Maybe a little 'accident' would happen to him...The thought of that motivated him well enough, and after double checking that he possessed his E-Handbook and room key, he left his room. Shutting the door behind him, although in his rush he forgot to lock it. As discovered by Lyric in her search for him later.

"At the time I though that everyone had seen it, and I was also not wanting to invoke the wrath of Monokuma by taking my time. So I just went there straight away. I arrived around....I think 7:13? So that all took about thirteen minutes." Cody explained, absentmindedly running a hand through his messy hair. Usually it wasn't the neatest thing in the world, but since he hadn't had a chance to brush it today it was unusually so.

At the mention of Monokuma and the fact that he had wanted to talk to Cody, he'd noticed that some of his acquaintances and friends had shifted their postures into a more closed off body stance. Which made his stomach churn with worry. Did they suspect that he'd conspired with Monokuma? He hopped not. "That's pretty suspicious, not gonna lie. What did he call you there for? And was Samantha in this at all?" Joshua, the Ultimate Biologist commented. A good amount of the others agreed with him, but it was Joshua's tone that gave Cody a renewed sense of hope. He hadn't said that in a disgusted or accusational tone, he just said it like he was stating a simple fact. So maybe they were keeping an open mind, and with adequate proof he could regain their trust!

Cody gave a strained smile, he wasn't completely free of worry after all, "Yeah I know it seems suspicious. Heh.....And for Samantha..Sorta? I don't know all with what happened to her, but I'll just continue telling you what I know." He replied. Joshua nodded slowly, and Marik whispered something into the Biologists ear. Whatever it was made the blond haired boy's eyes narrow, and send a strange look back to Marik. "Anyhow..Uh. After I arrived I kinda just was waiting around. I checked my E-Handbook for the time a lot, because Monokuma was taking forever..It got to the point where I was just clicking random things on the thing to see what they did. He showed up at around...7:34 I think..In short he told me that Samantha needed my help."

Monokuma's appearance startled Cody, who had just opened some note app or tab on his E-Handbook and wasn't at all paying attention to his surroundings. "Thank you for coming Cody, and not making me drag you hear like someone I know..." The bear said, a obvious jab against Andrew in his words.

Cody put away his E-Handbook and nodded, "Uh...No problem." He awkwardly said. "Did I do something wrong? I don't think I broke any of the rules..." The Ultimate Counselor asked after a small silence. The anxiety of just standing here and waiting for Monokuma to tell him what he was here for had begun to get to him.

The malicious bear chuckled at his question. After all he did love the fear that wafted off of Cody, but he did have a point to this. And believe it or not he was a busy bear! "No no, your not in trouble my dear student. In fact I summoned you here to request your medical expertise." He explained simply.

He would be lying if he said that he wasn't shocked. 'How does he know that I know some medical stuff?' Cody wondered, somewhat alarmed. "H-How do you know about that!? And why, why do you need my help!? Surly you can treat whatever the heck you need, or you can afford it. Right?" Cody sputtered, gaining control of his shock about halfway through.

"Oh Cody there's so much you don't know! I know every little thing about you, so don't worry your pretty little head about it. Now about Samantha...Well it's either you help her or she wakes up to a whole lot of pain, after all this is a game of life or death. Your skills will be pretty useful don't ya think? I mean I'm just being considerate and giving you some practice! After all it's been what-two or three years since you've used your skills?" Monokuma explained, his tone being one of obvious honey'd sweetness.

This brought on a swirl of emotions within Cody. He'd need his...skills? He didn't want to ever need them again, to ever have to use them again! He never wanted to imagine someone's life resting on his shoulders ever again. It's why he chose Psychology and worked to become a Psychiatrist. He didn't want this! Yet...Here he was, being faced with a decision. Either he could turn and walk away right now, leaving Samantha to possibly die, or he could suck it up and help her...His morals easily beat aside his fears and the answer was out of him before he could even properly consider, "Take me to her."

"Your a Counselor, and I doubt Monokuma would call you to help Samantha with any demons of hers. So I'm calling BS on you, why the hell did the bear summon you? The real reason this time." Katlyn coldly demanded, her icy glare boring into Cody. Jasmine gently tugged on her sleeve, to which Katlyn looked down to see what she needed. Her posture revealing faint annoyance. A small battle of wills ensued, fought in an eye-staring contest. In which Katlyn eventually backed down. Maybe out of respect for Caden, who she appeared to trust? Apparently it was about cussing yet again. Precious innocent beans.

His eyes moved down towards the floor, as he struggled to come up with a response. Cody didn't want to tell them about his medical abilities, which weren't even that impressive to begin with, because he'd been trying to escape it for so long. He'd been a promising future med student in school apparently, and Cody just felt like it followed him like a shadow. Eventually he sighed, and shoved his hands in his blue hoodie pocket. His shoulders slumped and overall his posture became his usual lazy pose. "Listen, I'm more than a Counselor alright? I know some medical stuff and either it was let Samantha experience pain, or go with Monokuma and treat her. Think what you want, I don't care, but I'm telling the truth. He made me put on a blindfold and led me to wherever in this school he was keeping Samantha before he let me take it off. I didn't want to risk him hurting Samantha by not putting the darn thing on right so that I could see. I treated her for a broken arm and a head injury." He huffed, just honestly wishing he was anywhere but here right now.

A silence fell on everyone as they seemed to be considering his words. What he found odd however, was that Katlyn was....She was smiling...The smile itself was so small, yet it was such a significant change from her stern neutral expression she usually wore. "I believe him." Katlyn stated simply, shifting her arms so that one was going horizontally across her stomach. While the other she was resting on it, the elbow that is, and hiding her expression some with her hand.

Dylan gave Katlyn an odd look, before huffing and rolling his eyes. Apparently he didn't agree, but he didn't say anything. "I think we should keep an eye on him..." Corey announced, appearing on the left side of everyone. Apparently he had slowly left Liam's side, and had actually tried to be stealthy about it. It's not like Liam was gonna tackle him to the floor to keep him there. He respected space, most of the time. Most of the time. After Corey had stated his opinion on the matter, Alex and Lyric returned to the group. The latter seemed much more calm and in control than she had before, which was another relief to Cody.

"I...Is it really my fault that I happened to be called by Monokuma? I mean what if he'd called....Lily Belle and she was the one with medical knowledge? Would you treat her with the same amount of distrust?" Cody asked, his eyes of their separate furies rising to look at his 'classmates.' His question caused some muttering, but overall it was quiet. He had a feeling that those people would. There was no point in staying here then. It would just be better if he headed to his room, so that he could think and clear his mind.

He felt a hand rest on his shoulder, which startled him to some degree. Since he hadn't noticed anyone moving. "Guys don't we have something else to worry about? And anyway...What if Monokuma wanted us to freak out and start pointing fingers? After all he did just give us a motive...." Alex pointed out, removing her hand from Cody's shoulder.

The Ultimate Counselor's different colored eyes widened in surprise. There was a motive!? "What are you talking about?" Cody asked, addressing the question more towards Alex.

It took a moment for Alex to realize that they still hadn't told them, since she'd assumed they had at some point during their conversation. Apparently they hadn't. "Uh...If no one kills someone in three days, Monokuma's gonna kill one person from each of our families. Or a close friend..." Alex answered quietly, as if saying it to loudly would make it reality. Or something.

Cody's blood ran cold. His family? His little brother, and his parents? He wasn't the only one that began to think about loved ones. Even Dylan and Katlyn appeared to be phased somewhat. Although their emotional masks remained strong. "It's probably not true, I mean it would take a lot to kidnap us and take over Hopes Peak. Think about the effort that would be required to get our families as well. I mean no ones that powerful...Right?" Andrew reasoned.

He wished that he could fully believe Andrew, but he couldn't find it in himself to do so at the moment. But his logic led him to another though. "Even if it's true...People will notice our disappearance soon, and then the police and stuff will come looking. So..." Cody said.

"So we just have to keep our hopes up!" Andrew added. The two's combined efforts seemed to raise everyone else's spirits. And more mumbling was exchanged among them.

Dylan was the first to leave the gym, taking long strides. He kinda gave of the impression that he didn't want to be there at all. Soon people started exiting the gym to go explore more or try to find something to do. Although Caden came over to help Emma and Lily Belle take Samantha to her room seeing as she hadn't woken yet. And Jasmine returned the lion necklace to the sleeping girl.

Soon only Cody and Lyric were left in the gym. The latter approached him in her usual timid manner. "H-Hey Cody." Lyric greeted, releasing her nervous grip on her medium length white skirt and smoothing out the material.

He returned her greeting with a lazy smile, "Heya. You holding up alright?" Cody inquired, glad to finally be able to express his concern.

The brown haired girl nodded, her hazel eyes just filled with relief. "I...I'm fine. I do have one question though..." She hesitantly replied, brushing a strand of her long hair behind an ear.

"Hm?" He hummed, signaling his interest, as well as letting her know he was ready to answer.

Lyric took a breath, as if to calm her nerves. She'd never fully 'calmed down' from her little outburst. Her shaking palms were evidence of that. "How was Samantha hurt and....Why were you unconscious?" She asked.

To be honest Cody had been expecting that question from everyone else, and for them to just straight up overlook it surprised him to some degree. Although he didn't show it. "I don't know about Samantha's situation much, and her injuries didn't give me much. So I can't really say...As for my unconsciousness..After I was done treating Samantha I felt something pierce my skin. Like a needle, and then everything quickly proceeded to get fuzzy. Shortly after that I blacked out, so I'm just gonna assume Monokuma drugged me." He answered, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck.

"Oh. Okay...I'm gonna go now." Lyric softly said, her curiosity appearing to be satisfied. She turned to leave, but halted. She visibly hesitated, before spinning around and running up to Cody. Enveloping him in a hug. "Keep yourself safe...Because...I feel like I know you, and can trust you, so much more than anyone else..." She softly whispered, before pulling away just as quickly and darting off.

Leaving Cody standing there, kinda stunned. Then he smiled. Maybe instead of going to his room he'd go talk to Andrew or Lyric more. After all, they were his friends. And even though others suspected that he might be up to something, he still should believe in them.

With that thought, he exited the gym. And so their second day in this murder game had kicked off with a...Dreadful start, but despite that fact, hope still remained.

But for how much longer?
