Father, stubbins, and I started looking through maps spread out across the ship.

"Now I know we don't have the journal but if we really-" father starts to say

"Oh yeah probably something you should know." I cut him off.

"I read through her journal. So having a mental picture, I know where to go. But if we really need to, we could track Müdfly with whales" I smile

"Excuse me? Did you just say you read her journal?" Father asks, his eyes wide.

"Yeah. You know I'm good at remembering things. I think I have photographic memory, if I'm being honest" I shrug

"You remember exactly what it says?!" Father exclaims

"That's what I said, yes" I nod

"And you didn't think to tell us before I started to have a break down?!" Father exclaims again

"Oops" I grin

"Alright let's get to work" I say as we lay out the maps. After what feels like hours of looking, I finally find the route.
 
"Father! Stubbins! I've done it!" I yell, and they come running in.

"I found the way. We'll check with the whales to make sure, but I know I've found it" I said

"I knew you could do it, Novy. Just like your mother" father smiles

"Great job! What are we waiting for? Lets go" stubbins exclaims

A little later, the whales return.
"We've found him! Follow us!" They tell us.
They're heading in the direction I predicted.

I stand in front of the ship, watching the sun sink low.
"We're almost there, mother." I whisper, holding her ring.

"Eden tree island" stubbins mumbles.

Father and I jump instantly- we'd both been lying down, exhausted. Father grabs stubbins by the shoulders and hugs him. Then he turns to me and pulls me into his arms.

"We did it" he whispers

"I knew we could" I tell him

The rest of the crew rushes over, cheering and laughing.

"Extraordinary. Absolutely extraordinary. You seeing this, mother?" I whisper, staring at the island.

Unfortunately for us we had to take the long way- up the mountain.

"Don't look down. Let's keep our beaks up shall we?" Father tells us as we shuffle along the narrow edge.

"Trying to stay positive but what the heck are we doing up here?" Plim asks

"Going in the back way my feathered buddy" Yoshi said

"What are you complaining about? This is the widest branch I've ever scurried on" Kevin said, running past me.

"Don't test my attitude right now, Kevin" I warn

Finally, we reach an opening. I climb inside first. Then turn around to help my father and stubbins up.

"Don't look down. Look at me." I tell stubbins, pulling him by the hand.

"Woah a big cave" Kevin mumbles

"Stay close, keep quiet" I whisper as we start moving forward.

"Riffle troops!" A voice yells from ahead.

"Hide. They're close" I whisper, motioning everyone down.

"Fall in!" Another voice shouts.

"Stay down" I whisper again, pressing against the cold stone. My hands brushes the rock- it glows faintly green.

I glance at father.
"Foxfire fungus. We must be near it now" I smile. And he gives a proud nod.

"Look guys. It's lighting a path all the way to.. the man who wants us dead" dab dab says as müdfky steps out from behind the tree.

"Stay right there." guards order.

"Go on then solider boy. Spoil yourself." Father mutters, right before they kick his leg, sending him to the ground.

"Hey, don't!" I yell, trying to rush over, but they grab my arms, forcing me to the ground beside him.

They drag us both over to müdfly and drop us at his feet.

"Oh hello Blair" father says

"Looking for a tree is it? Trees don't often grow in caves. Didn't you pay attention in botany class?" Father asks

"No but pay attention to this, Dolittle. I beat you! You filthy animal, hoarder. So where is it?" Müdfky snarls.

"Where's what?" Father asks

"The Eden tree" he demands.

"Truth is. I haven't got a clue. Honestly I wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for Nova here.
She led the way" father said

"Well Nova, where is it?" Müdfky asked me.

"Where's what?" I smirk.

"You know what! The Eden tree!" He exclaims

"Haven't got a clue" I shrug

"Don't be ridiculous, you're the dolittles. You get everything you want." He said

"Not today we don't" I tell him

"You really don't have any idea do you?...How does ignorance feel?" He asks, happy that we didn't know.

"Oh, very feeling, actually" I answer

"One must hug uncertainty, don't you think? That's how Lily lived her life. Embrace the unknown, and the answers will be revealed." Father says, smiling at me.

"You sad misguided nut Dolittle. Give that to me! Give me that." He yells, grabbing a metal rod.

I glance at father and stubbins and give them a small wink. I know exactly what I'm doing.

"I might find this damn tree on my own. And by God history will remember me." He yelled, shoving the pole into the ground.

"Ahh, well you see, you did just do something. Something very interesting" I said.

Then a low rumble shakes the cave.

"God that feels a lot larger than all of us" müdfly mutters

"Oh yes, very much bigger" I reply

A deafening roar tears through the cave. A dragon erupts from the shadows.

"Look out!" Father shouts, shoving me and müdfly aside just as fire bursts past.

I jump up and help father to his feet.
"Down over here, come on. Come on" I yell, waving everyone to hide behind the rocks.

"Yoshi stay down!" Father shouts as the dragon breathes fire again, the air searing hot around us.

I peak over the rocks and see the dragon gripping a man in its claws- it spits fire at him.
"Oh dear God" I mutter

"We're gonna make a run for that ditch while she's distracted-" father starts, but the tail of the dragon suddenly slams down on Yoshi.

"Get this off of me!" Yoshi yells

"Cheech help!" I shout

"Plimton help me bro!" Yoshi calls

"I'll save you bro!" Plim yells

"Right, think fast" I mumble to myself, grabbing an old sword.

"This'll likely upset her a bit." I say, jabbing the sword at the dragons tail. The blade bounces off uselessly.

Then, before I could react- her tail wraps around me.

"No! Nova!" Father yells, reaching for me. But it was too late.

The dragon lifts me into the air. My breath catches as I see her turning- straight toward my family.

"Nova! Help!" They all yell as the dragon opens her jaws, fire building in her throat.
