chapter -2
Darkness enveloped most of the land despite the time of wretched daylight fast approaching. Perhaps the world was not prepared for endless, blinding light quite yet. This has given me the perfect chance to observe the world as it slowly wakes up.
Thomas had left that mansion again, his energy toned down far more since last night. His cheerful aura had dissipated to something akin to his usual mood, a cloud of gloom that casted a darkened shadow over his miserable body. He wasn't even in his beastly form. Only his measly human form treaded the cracking concrete grounds.
There was not much of a reason for me to stalk him right now. It appeared that he no longer feels the need to counter my dark realm with an obnoxious, star-spangled glimmer.
I wandered, clinging pointy black claws to tall, brick buildings that towered above the people below who built a place that could easily bring them to their own demise. These unnecessarily tall buildings were bound to cause a few accidents resulting in their own deaths. One of the stupidest decisions of mankind had to be the apartment, towering buildings filled with tinier homes for economically unimportant people that leech the life out of independent young adults and financially unstable individuals. Learning about these deathly buildings and human life is endlessly interesting though. It amazes me how so many people would want to live several stories above the ground without fearing how far their belongings and entirety would fall to an untimely demise.
Dead people are bad for me. Deceased fools can't even dream or have nightmares. They're pointless. My life would be much easier if human lives weren't so incredibly fragile.
Most of the windows were painted with shade, all but one. It spread a golden glow across the darkness, erasing a valuable portion of the darkness I inhabit. How rude of them. Disturbed, I began scaling the wall, shadowy dark claws piercing madly through the brick as I lifted my body beside the glowing window. I peered, tilting my head into the light. It burned to touch. Light always hurts but sometimes, I must bear its malice.
The interior of the glowing room was filled with glow-in-the-dark stars and pictures of unicorns on various pieces of notebook paper that were taped on the top to the walls. In the center was a spacious bed with a purple comforter with three big pillows. It had a mirror on top of a small wardrobe, much like the mug of coffee on top of one of the two nightstands that were an equal height of the bed. Under the covers laid a distraught teenage girl with bright blonde hair and pale white skin. Her body was cloaked by the comforter and a laptop was placed atop her knees. I peered in closer.
The light from the laptop spread into my eyes. It was as if I was watching someone reading a book if the pages never turned and one of the pages was filled with light. There were lines of words encased in rounded rectangles. Intrigued, I read them, starting with a bubble with a V shape in its center
"did u see Spencer?
he looks soooo cute!
like holy"
The girl began smashing her fingertips against the bottom half, her fingernails licking the letters and pushing them into the laptop. Each press omitted a clicking noise, creating a cacophony of clicks and clacks. With a confident clack of the rightmost key in the center, a message with a T centered in its own bubble on the opposite side of the V bubble.
"Yeah hes so hot you wouldnt believe"
She was giggling, watching the screen with glee. Light shouldn't be able to make someone so happy so easily but I suppose it's what's in the light rather than the light itself. I peered in closer, my face pressing against the outside of the window. It was strange how I wasn't noticed. The light must be scorching my cheeks.
Another collection of messages emerged from below the light's reach, from the V bubble.
"do u have a picture of him?
I totally want one of him"
With another giggle, the girl vigorously clicked and clacked the letters beneath her hands. Another message was produced from the T bubble after she finished.
"No but I can say his sleeping form thing is a deer like me"
This conversation of words of light intrigues me. If only I could get closer without opening this dreadful window. What a horrible barrier between knowledge and human life.
Yet again, the V bubble had another textual reply.
"I knooooow!
I just want a picture of him as a person.
Both could be hot.
Are you two dating?
I heard u totally failed yesterday in dating him lol"
Sharply, the girl gasped, trembling. Her fingers slowly began to type. Sometimes, she'd suddenly press a key off to the right to remove one of the letters on the light. How do you click and clack in fear from words alone? Writing isn't something that strikes fearful feelings within a soul. Are humans truly that internally feeble? It's disappointing to watch. Perhaps her fear is what's making her take so long to produce her message. How stupid. Humans are inherently foolish.
She's still pressing her fat fingers against the laptops bottom, as if expecting it to break under the weight of her fingertips. There was a bloated message appearing under the group of messages that read a revealing message.
"That Thomas kid was talking to him and walking away with him recently. I think they might be dating. Spencer ran away with him yesterday too. I know how much you hate him..."
Swiftly, the message began to erase itself as she slammed her index finger on one of the keys. I watched it all dwindle away as it all became nothing, a light without words. She began typing again, quickly sending it as the T bubble.
"No. You should just stay with Edward."
Edward? Who's Edward?
I shook my head. Another message quickly materialized from the V bubble..
"Eddy?
We rnt together.
My parents want me to move back but this place is way better
He still helps me hold my own"
The girl gave the light screen a confused visage before sending another message back.
"So why did you dare me to try and date the new kid in the first place?"
The V bubble immediately replied back.
"Didnt I tell u to stop sending long texts????"
After a brief pause, another message popped up.
"I thought it was funny.
Its cool seeing u try to be like me tho
Ure seriously uncool so its super cute
Not as cute as ed
Dunno why he cheated on me tho
I hate guys who like both
U would probably like girls
Bcause only ud try to ask me out"
She quickly shut the laptop, sharply inhaling once again.
I watched as she threw her laptop onto a pile of blankets on the ground, letting out a loud cry as she retreated under the covers. Her tears soaked into the blanket that was draped above her head as she twisted and turned, falling flat onto the top of the bed. She lowered the blanket from her eyes, revealing her bawling visage.
Her eyes slowly shut as she shaped into a pink-furred doe, crying tears that burned her body and burned my body because they were filled with a dying but present light. The light hurt so badly that I had to crawl off of the wall. The morning light was coming!
I darted from the wall to the grass and to the forest, crying out a cry louder than any other cry conceivable. The sun rose far from the confines of the clouds and with a hiss, I hid from the light.
I cannot take on a more attractive form while burning in the sunlight.
