❝shadow government❞

✧༺♥༻∞ ∞༺♥༻✧
While Diego was being tended to his knife wound Five was reunited with another sibling who has no memory. Turns out Luther had found Vanya who arrived shortly after Diego only with zero memory of who she was. The plan was to get on Vanya's good side by telling her parts of her past to get her to join them - Vanya did not join Five and neither did Luther.
Diego sat back on the couch wearing only his jeans while Lila changed his stab wounds bandage following Five with his eyes, "So, what, you just let her go?"
"Well, Vanya had a lot to process. She'll come around. I know she will," Five says pacing the room
"What about the guys that went after her?" Diego asks as Elliott walks into the room with coffee mugs in hand
"The Swedes?" Five clarifies half wondering if there was another threat to keep in mind
"Yeah, I mean, how do you know they won't go after her again?"
"We don't." Five simply states
Having just taken a sip of her mug Lila hums, "Mm, any idea who sent them?"
"Oh, I have my suspicions." Five ominously states reaching down to pick up the freshly brewed coffee Eliott had made "But right now, our priority is finding Dad and getting answers, 'cause everything else depends on it."
"Which, for the record, I found him already." Diego points out
"And then let him go before we could have a meaningful conversation." Five smirks sipping his cup
"He stabbed me." Diego states willing to talk about that but of what came after was something he wanted to keep a secret
"I'm surprised he waited this long, Diego. We've all had the urge." Five says which makes Lila laugh and Elliott chuckle nervously holding his own mug
"Good one." Lila holds out her hand for Five to high five
Five just looks at her and ignores her to focus speaking to his brother, "Good thing I know where Dad's gonna be tonight"
Diego leans over the coffee table to snatch the paper out of Five's hand, "Where'd you get this?"
"Found it at his office while he was busy stabbing you." Five mockingly smiles making Diego spot reading and sarcastically laugh
"Hoyt Hillenkoetter and the Consulate General of Mexico in Dallas cordially invite you to a gala." Diego reads off the paper
At the words being spoken Elliott's attention is sparked, "Whoa, wait. Hoyt Hillenkoetter? Are you serious?"
"You know him?" Five asks as the name rings zero history bells
Lila gasps at the rest of the invitation, "We should go. Says there's gonna be a seafood tower."
"No, Hillenkoetter is... is one of the Majestic Twelve." Elliott breaks the news which just created more questions
"The hell is the Majestic Twelve?"
"What?" Elliott whispers in shock at the question "It's a... a secret committee. Uh, scientists, military, uh, deep state. No one knows what they really do."
"Wait, so they're government?" Diego asks sitting up with a grunt
"Shadow government." Elliott clarifies as he rummages through his desk for the right photo "Yeah, Kennedy was the first president to try to push 'em into the light, but these guys are not to be trifled with."
Elliott finds the photo of the Majestic Twelve and walks over to the coffee table to show everyone, "Oh... Oh, here we go. Ah, right here. This, uh... Oh, right here. That's Hoyt right there."
Five leans down to look at all the faces in the photo when Lila gasps, "I only count 11."
"Well, that's because they've only identified 11 so far." Elliott states which is what makes them the perfect shadow government
"Who's the twelfth?" Diego asks making Five look up and give his brother a look so they can both be on the same page that their dad was the twelfth member

Finding clothes for a gala wasn't hard to steal. Elliott was most definitely not going to attend and as for Lila - to Five's dismay - was hard to leave behind.
The Mexican Consulate didn't have security all around the building meaning they were able to hide behind some parked cars
"So, what's the plan?" Lila asks squatting down by Diego who was looking over the car
"We infiltrate, we identify, we extract. Double time." Diego states softly as there was people walking into the party
"What the hell's he talking about?" Lila turns to Five who had nodded at Diego's words in understanding
"Find the old man and get out fast." Five translates
Diego turning around to say, "That's what I said. On me."
Diego quickly makes his way hunched down over to the oher parked car as their way in wasn't through the front door but rather through the side doors which were open as guests were allowed to go outside if needed
Once inside slow mariachi music surrounds them along with the overlapping chatter of all the guests.
"I don't see Dad anywhere." Diego says looking around at the room which was only part of the whole venue
"Just keep an eye out for the Majestic Twelve. I got the upstairs." Five tells the two as he holds a champagne flute the waiter didn't even try to stop him from taking "Diego, try not to do anything too stupid."
On the other end of the room stood a woman wearing a black strapless dress with matching black long gloves. A man walks over to her as she takes a champagne flute, "Ms. Mimi Montgomergy"
Zelma turns around knowing the voice and smiles, "Hello, Mr. Shore, you bring the boys with you today?"
"No just me and the wife," James Shore, a tall dark haired and forty year old, who has known Zelma for two years
Looking around Zelma asks, "Where is the beautiful Mrs. Shore?"
"Probably out powdering her nose or finding someone to talk their ear off about our boys," James dismisses knowing his wife always made friends at these events
"Last she told me the boys are star players in their soccer league, now that is something to brag about." Zelma raises her flute
"How are your girls?" James asks putting the attention on her life which after his husbands death she doesn't talk much about, it seems he's the one who always did the talking
With a relaxed smile Zelma says, "Now Mr. Shore you know better than to get me start talking about my girls or you will not be able to get away from me pulling out their photos"
"I will leave that to my wife." James raises his hands in surrender and knew network more around "We should talk business soon Ms. Montgomery"
"I'll be calling your office," Zelma smiles and nods in reassurance
"Enjoy the party Mimi" James Shore says his goodbye
The man just being another tux at the party Zelma smiles, "You as well Mr. Shore"
Networking was never Zelma's strong suit which is why Vance was always the one who was the outgoing one which made their cover work well. Now walking around the party without him she had to force herself to relax and talk to everyone she knew or who knew her employer.
Walking around and talking to people was made easy when she sees Grace and hears her Texas drawl.
By pure miracle Zelma had yet to see Diego on the dance floor with Lila. And by pure coincidence Zelma's laugh was what brought attention to her from the dance floor.
Diego stops in his tracks at the sound of a laugh. It was never hard to get Zelma to laugh, with the amount of delirium of living with little sleep she was giggly every now and then. Evey giggle and laugh had been slowly engraved in Diego's mind making it one of a kind and easily recognizable.
Diego stops dancing with Lila as the crowd keeps moving, meaning each window he gets a new glimpse of Zelma in the sunlight.
"Well, you are easily distracted." Lila laughs looking over to what had caught his eye which by what she could tell was a red haired woman in a black dress
"It can't be." Diego says in awe, taking in how everything about Zelma was so familiar yet new. Like how her hair was a red brown color and she wore make-up and yet the gloves was just so Zelma
Diego makes his way through the crowd as Zelma sets her champagne glass down and walks up the stairs. Diego, set on following her, stops when he almost bumps into someone but catches himself. Looking away from the woman on the stairs Diego looks down ready to apologize, "Sorry, I-. Mom."
Standing in front of Diego was Grace - or rather the human who Reginald had modeled the kids robot mom after. Meaning all Diego could see standing before him was his mom which makes Grace surprised but tries to laugh it off, "Never heard that one before. Everything all right, hon?"
"You're real." Diego lets himself smile as the Texas drawl the woman before him had has new
"If this is your idea of a come-on, it's not goin' well." Grace informs the long haired man before her
"No. Actu..." Diego drops his smile and crosses his arms as he continues to fumble his words "Uh... Uh, do... do you know a... a man named Sir Reginald Hargreeves?"
"Reggie? He's my date this evenin'."
At the news Diego's eyes widened, "Your date? Ugh."
The stranger before her having made a sound of disgust at the name of her date makes Grace ask, "Do you have a problem with that?"
Diego's eyes fall to the ground as he continues to process the fact that his dad may have dated his mom - or the human he'd modeled their mom after, "No. No, no, it's... it's just, uh... It's just a lot to process. The... The thought of the two of you, I... I can't picture that in my head. That is... That's nasty. Uh..."
Grace lets out a soft chuckle, "You're a little odd, aren't you?"
"Yeah." Diego answers looking up with a smile only to realize what he had answered to and how he'd gotten distracted from his original task "I mean, no. Uh... The woman you had been talking to, do you know who she is?"
"Mimi?" Grace perks up wondering if the man before her knew the woman who seemed to know everyone "Of course, she came to work for Reggie alongside her husband. Do you know her?"
At the news that woman he thought was Zelma was actually named Mimi and has a husband makes him reply, "Must of mistaken her for someone"
"Hope you find who you were looking for," Grace raises her martini glass to take a drink and walk off for a new one
Before she can walk away Diego calls after her, "Hey, uh, Grace? It was nice meeting you."
"You too." Grace smiles at the strange man she'd just met who'd just made the party interesting for her
Diego knew if Grace was down stairs by herself and they had yet to see Reginald that meant he was in another room. Considering Diego and Lila had been doing recon from the dance floor he wasn't anywhere on the first floor. That also makes him realize he had left Lila alone somewhere in the party

Zelma being was put incharge of securing the second floor of the Consulate. Easy job considering no one walked up the stairs unless they had permission - it was the unspoken rule of the Consulate. None the less Zelma didn't get to keep her job by being lazy, meaning each room was being checked from top to bottom on repeat.
The thing about jobs like the one she had meant breaks weren't a thing so she had to grab them whenever they appeared. Going to the restroom was suppose to be simple, which is was until she hears a crash outside in the hall. Zelma quickly washes her hands and grabs her black gloves before rushing out into the hall seeing someone in a white suit. Normally that would equal waiter since that was the official outfit for the event but his shaggy hair and not having spotted her meant he wasn't a waiter.
Zelma opens the bedroom to her right where she knew there was a phone by the door nightstand. She quickly calls the number she'd memorized for the event, waits for five rings, hangs up and calls again only letting it ring for five more once again.
There was various protocols Zelma's boss has implemented and depending on what she found outside in the hall meant there would be certain measures she'd have to take.
Walking out into the hall Zelma assesses the situation as quickly as she was taught. Nothing could prepare her to see Diego being beat up by two fake waiters and then Five at the end of the hall being beat up by the first waiter she'd seen. There was a woman at the hallway staircase entrance but considering she wasn't doing anything Zelma get's to work. Being at the Consulate meant no guns - there was no need for a dispute between countries.
Before a man with brass knuckles can go back to punching Diego Zelma grabs his hand - gloves nowhere to be found Zelma can see his next five moves now that she was in the picture.
Disarming and breaking a man's nose was not Zelma's first time doing so, but it was Diego's first time. While he was being strangled with a belt around his neck the woman before him was helping him meaning using his head to knock out the man behind him Diego was able to be set free.
Catching his breath Diego looks down at Zelma tying up the man she'd knocked out with a belt and long gloves, "Zelma"
With a sigh the woman in the black dress and red brown hair that had yet to have a curl out of place stands up, "Told you you were going to be okay"
"It is you." Diego whispers wondering if he'd lost so much oxygen he was hallucinating her again but her words meant he had never hallucinated her
"Were you expecting someone else?" Zelma asks with a smile taking in how he looked under fluorescent light which was a lot better considering he wasn't bleeding out on the floor
"Yes. No! I mean-" Diego doesn't get to explain himself as Zelma pushes him against the wall just in time to not be hit by the man he'd knocked down
Diego and Zelma didn't think their first meeting would be in the middle of a fight against people who they didn't want to be around. One thing the man who was wide awake proved was that even after all the time apart Diego and Zelma worked well together
If Diego punched the man with a right hook, Zelma made sure to step back before Diego made space for her to land a leg sweep on the man's left side.
Working together allowed them to take down the man fast, but when they did reality settled in for Zelma. Fixing her black dress so it can fall the way it was meant to Zelma turns to the direction of the stair case. Diego follows after her and grabs her elbow, "Where are you going?"
"I'll explain everything soon. Just wait and trust me, okay?" Zelma pleads being able to hear the cars outside and knew her boss was either already in his car or waiting for it.
Diego let's her go and watches her disappear down the stairs. At the sound of a horn honk Diego looks out one of the many windows to see his dad and Grace standing outside
When Zelma steps outside the Consulate cold air hits her arms making her control her breathing and compose herself. Reginald and Grace's car drives away just as her car is driven forward and her driver steps out to open her door
As he does so Zelma turns her head to the right where she spots Diego and Five standing next to a woman - the same woman from the hallway who'd ran to help Five amongst all the fighting
"Ms. Montgomery we must go," The driver states snapping her out of her thoughts
Recovering with a smile Zelma says, "Of course"
