Chapter 9: Written

Natsu slammed his alarm off on his phone, almost tempting to throw it across the room.

Instead of throwing his phone, he grabbed a protein bar that sat on his nightstand next to him and hurled it at the light switch. It successfully flipped on with his bedroom lights blinding him for a few seconds.

His vision quickly adjusted to the lighting, leading towards laying on his back to scroll through his phone. Natsu boringly played through people's stories on Snapchat, replying for good morning streaks.

He might've replayed Gray's story more than once after seeing the raven-haired male take a selfie with the blonde he was intrigued by.

"That bastard..." Natsu skipped to Instagram, his eyes bulging at one of the top notifications.

-Lucy_Heartfilia liked your photo

So she did notice his advance a few days ago, thus, following by liking his recent picture.

No big deal, he was just completely shirtless with the sunset in the background, his tanned skin glowing for the gods. His ripped abs and muscles were clearly defined in each crook and cranny of his toned body.

Natsu jumped eagerly out of bed to get to his workout faster than any other day. Not even Lisanna could've gotten his butt out of bed that fast.

"You still owe me for barging in." Gray reminded him before he left.

Natsu waved him off, a sly grin on his face. "Whatever, princess."

He eagerly strode to the café, hoping to see the blonde working another morning shift at the barista area. Seeing her was only half of it, the coffees she made were heavenly that satisfied his tastebuds with every sip.

He glided through the double doors to see Juvia at the front desk.

"Good morning, Natsu!" Juvia waved.

"Mornin'," Natsu replied, waving a hand before taking a sharp left.

There she was, happily finishing another coffee for another customer with the same satisfaction as him to down the drink. Her hair was up in it's normal messy bun, swept bangs framing her face.

He smiled as he approached the counter, her brown eyes glimmering into his.

"Aloha kakahiaka, Natsu." Lucy reached for a grande sized cup, automatically scribbling the memorized order that stuck to her mind. "Usual?"

"You already know me too well," Natsu joked, his fingers fiddling with a random pen on the counter.

He glanced at her again to find she was already looking at him, his goofy grin only growing.

She turned around to start on his drink, unaware of his emerald eyes scanning her.

"So," Natsu casually started, hoping to somehow bring up Friday's fight without being too blunt. "You're watching Gajeel's fight on Friday, right?"

"Yup," She replied without turning around, mainly focused on her job.

Natsu nodded his head, talking his fingers anxiously against the cool countertop. "His fight's at five that night, but um.." he trailed off, a light pink flourishing from the bridge of his nose outwards. "I don't know if you're like, or if you stay up later--"

"I'm known for staying up late, it's actually a bad habit of mine." Lucy giggled over her shoulder, sending him a mischievous smile.

"I mean--y'know, usually the later fights are always the better ones.."

A sleeved coffee slipped across the counter into his hands without warning. "It's three seventy-five." Lucy said.

Natsu playfully rolled his eyes to slip four one dollar bills over. "Don't, keep the change."

"You need to stop," Lucy laughed, already pulling out a quarter in change. "You can't convince me otherwise."

"I'll keep the change if you tell me your favorite drink." Natsu stated, tapping a finger against the side of his hot coffee.

Lucy cocked her head slightly, but didn't seem to mind. "My favorite's are mochas with extra whip cream." She blushed, feeling like a child.

Natsu lightly laughed. "So you're a chocoholic?"

Lucy hummed innocently, pursing out her lips. "I can't deny it."

Natsu stuck that to the back of his brain, hoping that he'd need that order for the future. "I'll see you later, Lucy."

They both smiled at each other for a moment before he started walking away, secretly laughing for the realization to hit her.

"You dummy! Take back your quarter!"

"Keep it, you deserve it." Natsu flashed a wide grin at her, walking out of the doors after seeing her flushed face.

As he walked down the sidewalk, his fingers gripped onto the coffee cup more firmly. It felt different, almost forgetting that today she'd slipped on a sleeve for his hot drink. Maybe it was just her being cautious for him?

Natsu didn't mind the hotness, in fact it felt great against his skin. He raised the coffee up and slipped off the sleeve, almost disposing it into the garbage he was passing until his eyes took a second glance at her handwriting.

Below the scribble marks of his order, an arrow pointed towards a direction that was clearly only hidden by the recyclable sleeve. His eyes followed the arrow around the cup.

Natsu never intends to waste anything consumable, but at this moment he almost dropped his coffee.

"Text me sometime, I'd like to get to know you too :) -xxx-xxx-xxxx"

No way.

Natsu brought out his phone to take a picture of it, then added her number into his contacts more than eagerly.

After quickly arriving home, with his mind fogged of only thoughts about the blonde, he settled on his bed with another chicken salad, Gatorade, laptop and phone in hand.

A low growl came from the back of his throat to see another comeback text.

Lisanna: Yeah, don't expect me to show up to your fight on Friday either. I'll be busy NOT wasting my time.

-Fine, not like you ever show up anyways.

Natsu bit his tongue after pressing send, feeling both satisfied and a dose of sadness. When they were friends, it was all rainbows and butterflies. As time passed, it felt more unhealthy to be stuck with her and it pained his chest.

He did miss her, but not in the same way he used to. Their connection was slowly evaporating until the day came when he'd no longer recognize her at all.

They both changed; she just took the road that didn't meet up with his, and he feared that their pathways wouldn't ever end up in the same intersection again.

"Does she make you happy?"

Lucy's voice rang in his head, the same question replaying more than a dozen times over. Right now, his happiness was boxing, it always was.

Natsu realized that the blonde always seemed to make him smile. Over the past week and a few days, he's been more energetic and lively; until Lisanna came to burn it down.

Pausing the film of his opponent fighting, he grabbed his phone and decided to build a new road, hoping that it'd lead to another intersection.

After work, Lucy went straight home to chill by herself. A king sized Mr. Goodbar and water bottle sat by her side to satisfy her chocolate cravings again.

It's not like there were other better options at the moment.

She still scavenged to find a second job. From her overdose on extra time, it wouldn't be a problem.

Lucy needed to find a job that she liked and that paid well.

It seemed easier to say than to do at the moment, and from dispensing the other various times she spent staring at her laptop screen.

It was no different than now.

Lucy was grateful to luckily land a job at the café, she couldn't imagine what she'd be like without Levy and Juvia.

Lucy's focus was distracted from her phone flashing the lock screen, seeing an unknown number pop up with a text. Her mind needed a mental break anyways, so she reached to grab her device and read it.

xxx-xxx-xxxx: Hey, it's your favorite morning person :)

A hot flash crept onto her face, burying it into the blankets on her bed for a moment. It was a nail biter for her to scribble her number on the cup like passing a corny note in middle school.

She smiled in thought, her thumbs moving to send a text back.

-Hmm...I wonder who that could be--

Lucy kicked her feet back and forth in the air behind her, eagerly waiting for his reply. The text bubbles already popped up, signaling that he was texting a reply. To pass the few seconds of waiting, she saved his number under a contact.

Natsu: Damn, I guess I'll have to try harder to be your favorite

-Maybe those tips aren't strong enough

Natsu: Mhmm, ok, we'll see :)

-Haha jk, it's more than enough

Lucy tapped her fingers waiting for a reply. The bubbles disappeared for a moment, catching her attention. He was taking a lot longer this time than the instant replies, noticing the bubbles reappear again for another long seconds.

Natsu: So wyd 'sides going to Metalhead's fight on Friday?

Lucy blinked several times, seeing he was steering the conversation to fights again. At Gray's, he'd casually brought up later matches on Friday. She was curious as to why he was doing it again

-Going to work in the morning obviously :) What's up?

Lucy added the extra two words to directly question his motives, waiting to see how he'd react. She waited a few extra moments once again.

Natsu: I was just gon' say that I have a fight later after him, nothin' much.

-So you were bragging earlier at Gray's that you're better, correct? I picked up you saying that the best are for last today too XD

Natsu: Mmmm yeah

Natsu: I mean it's not a big deal, it's chill if you're busy, it's barely a difference besides the times, it's all good

Lucy lightly giggled at his lowkey reply about his fight, clearly noticing he was playing it off like it wasn't anything big. He was boasting constantly at Gray's, giving several hints.

-I'd love to watch your fight

Natsu: I can promise you that it shouldn't be a surprise when I'm finished in a few rounds

-I'm counting on it

Natsu: I'm already fired up now :)

Lucy laughed at his last text, a light, bubbly feeling within her knowing that their friendship would grow.

They both came down from their high of being together as one, his tired body flipping over to her side with his chest against her skin. He draped an arm over her stomach, pulling her closer to place a few light chaste kisses along her face that imprinted a blissful expression.

"That fuck doesn't know what he's missin'," He lowly mumbled, his vocals ticking against the surface of her skin.

Lisanna tiredly smiled, the feeling of ache stretching between the core of her legs. "He's just oblivious, he probably hasn't been seeing anyone either."

"He's a fucking virgin playing a gay sport."

She laughed at his comment, turning her body to face his, lacing her fingers through his deep aqua hair. His hand smoothed over her skin back and forth, squeezing her thigh lightly as she wrapped her leg around him, thinking nothing otherwise of his touch.

"One day he'll hopefully realize I'm more important," Lisanna sighed with no remorse, blatantly ignoring the pained look in Bickslow's eyes. His hand stopped for a moment to digest her words clearly, gripping her more tightly with jealousy of desire rather than enjoyment.

Bickslow suddenly smashed his lips on hers, forcefully kissing her with a deeper emotion that seemed to burst inside him. "Does he make you feel like this?" He angrily husked, intruding her mouth with his tongue without permission to do so.

Lisanna let out a soft moan, wrapping her arms around his neck to even if out. "Maybe later," she smugly replied. A whimper escaped from the back of her throat when Bickslow got hold of her bottom lip between his teeth, surprising her. The lust he held in his eyes almost made her gasp, unrecognizing the way they intensified with dominance over her.

It was different to see the same passionate, yet fiery glint in another mans' eyes for her, the way she longed for someone to see her. He used to look at her like that before--not anymore.

"Bickslow," She sighed as he grinned his hips on her sore body, yet nonetheless wanting more from him.

A small part of her wished to say his name instead, one day hoping to feel his toned body finally being exposed to her and her only.
