A Spectral Showdown
Daisy's POV
I bolted down the flights of stairs, racing from foggy floor to foggy floor. I held onto Venonat as tightly as I could as I stumbled through the mazes. Eventually, I hit the bottom floor and ran outside the tower.
"Dammit, Red!" I shouted angrily, kicking the dirt. I heard the grunts shouting from inside the tower and ran for one of the houses, I slipped inside and crouched next to the door.
"Where is she?"
"Fan out and search the town!"
I bit my lip, my eyes adjusted to the darkness and I saw a table flipped over and multiple possessions smashed and scattered on the floor. My eyes scanned the room, and I noticed some purple mist populating the area.
Then, I saw a young girl standing in the back of the room. Something about her was... familiar. "Oh, a trainer's stumbled into here."
I recognize that voice! It was Ally, the strange girl from the Celadon City Department Store. "Huh? What are you..?" I remembered before she left, that she mentioned something about Lavender Town.
The girl raised an eyebrow. "Oh hold on, I've seen you before. You're the ones who ruined my fun!" As she shouted, the room seemed to shake. I looked around to make sure that the rocket grunts hadn't heard her.
"Shhh, keep it down!" I hissed. "Are you trying to get us caught?"
Suddenly, Ally started to laugh. "Don't worry. They're not going to be able to catch me." I narrowed my eyes, and noticed that purple mist was swirling around.
"What's going on here?" I demanded.
Ally sauntered forward. "Really? Ya haven't figured it out? Maybe this will help!" She snapped her fingers, and various small items started rising into the air.
My eyes darted around the room. It didn't seem like this was the work of Psychic. "T-this doesn't make any sense! How are you doing this?"
As if on cue, several specters began to appear in the air around Ally. "My friends are helping me! Doy!"
The mysterious creatures resembled purple beings. Several spherical Pokémon were dotting the room, staring at me.
A larger Pokémon loomed behind Ally. The Pokémon had red eyes and stubby limbs. "Are you getting it yet?"
I furrowed my brow. "H-hold on... these are... Ghost-Type Pokémon." Then, I looked at Ally again. Her sickening smile. Her sweet demeanor. The trick she tried pulling on us at Celadon. "Are you... a ghost?"
Ally started to clap. "Yes! Winner winner! You screwed up my little game. It would've been so fun when you got it wrong, too. Eugh, I don't know why the Distortion I heard that voice in my head!"
I sat up. "So that scam... Red messed it up?"
"Mhm. And I couldn't even get my revenge, since these Team Rocket jerks are all amuck in my town!" The ghost girl kicked a can away. "It's not fair at all!"
I racked my brain, I was still trying to process that ghosts were real. Not only that, but an army of Pokémon and a ghost were all around me. Red was still in danger.
"Then help me run them out of here!" I shot up. "My friend is in trouble, and we're trying to stop Team Rocket!"
Ally scoffed. "Now why would I do that? Like I said, you both ruined my fun."
I gestured to the town outside. "Your home is under attack! Don't you want to stop them?"
Ally rolled her eyes. "If I recall correctly, you were pretty convinced this whole town is a scam!"
Ally's booming voice was joined by a chorus of jeers from all the ghosts. I stomped my foot on the ground. "Listen to me! I let Red down again! I can't leave him behind! You can either help me out, or stand around and prove you're all talk!"
Ally narrowed her eyes. "All talk? Do you have any idea who I am? What I am?" The girl began floating and matched my eye-line.
I stared her down. Looking at this mysterious being, I felt a bit nervous. However, Red needed me. "No. I don't. And I'm not afraid of you. I'm not going to back down when my friend needs me. Prove to me why I should be afraid."
Ally smirked. "Fine then. Let's see if you can match us." She looked to the other ghosts and nodded. All of the ghouls vanished, and Ally faded away moments later.
I looked outside to see that the sun had suddenly been blocked out. The members of Team Rocket were looking around, trying to find me.
Then, ghosts started to appear around them. Several Gastly surrounded a cluster of grunts. "What's going on here?" One of the grunts reached for his belt and held up some sort of device.
The device clattered to the ground, and the ghosts started to close in. Ally appeared in front of them. "Sorry, no cheating! The only solution for you all is to run!" White hands appeared on the shoulders of the grunts.
"Ghosts! They're ghosts!" Another grunt shouted.
The grunts all turned and ran out of the town. Ally looked over at me. "Got some friends in the tower helping out, but this is mostly on you to figure out. Don't let me down, little trainer."
I nodded. "I won't. For Red!" I turned to Pokémon Tower and ran inside. I started flying up the stairs, encountering a few grunts guarding the entrance.
The fog swirled around them as they reached for Poké Balls. "Venonat, use Bug Buzz!" Venonat let out a loud buzzing noise that was directed at the opposing trainers. The grunts dropped the spheres on the ground, and a Zubat and Grimer appeared on the battlefield.
The fog continued to swirl, increasing in ferocity. I chuckled and put down Venonat. "You're not ready for this! Venonat, use Psychic!"
My Pokémon sent out a wave of blue energy that trapped the grunts and their Pokémon. The fog manifested into a giant ghostly being. The grunts started shaking and I smiled. "Boo."
The fog blew into the two trainers and Venonat dropped her hold on them. The grunts and their Pokémon were carried out of the building by the fog, vanishing into ghostly energy.
I was a bit worried about what had happened, but we didn't have time to worry about it. I picked Venonat back up and we ran up the remaining flights of stairs.
We ran through the second to last floor and I approached the stairs leading to the top. "Here we go."
I stopped before we reached the top of the staircase and dropped to a crouch, slowly going up each step.
I peered into the floor saw that Petrel had three grunts with him. Red was tied up in the back with an old man, he seemed to still be unconscious.
"Let's see if the ghosts can help us out." I muttered below my breath. Then, I stepped back into the room. "Petrel! Surrender now!"
The admin turned around and sighed. "Shouldn't have come back, kid." He sent his Koffing back out. The Koffing released another wave of poison, but this time I was ready.
I shook my head. "You never should have gotten in our way! Venonat, use Psychic!" Venonat's eyes shone with blue energy and sent the poison out the windows.
Petrel grit his teeth. "Oh, well that's just swell! Fine then, we'll overwhelm you!" Petrel sent out another Pokémon. This one was a larger version of Koffing, conjoined with a smaller ball of poison.
The grunts moved in to send out their Pokémon, but Ally appeared in the center of the room. She held out her hands and a Pokémon with a bulky frame appeared beside her.
The Pokémon held up the outline of a bone and began to shout. "Get out! Get out! Leave this place!" The booming voice was accompanied by a chorus of other ghosts that appeared in the area.
The ghostly energy surrounded the grunts and Ally smiled. "You heard her! Leave this place!" The grunts vanished, along with all the ghosts.
Ally turned and smiled at me. "Alright, it's all up to you now." The girl vanished, leaving Petrel and his Weezing.
The man seemed to have been left speechless. "W-what just happened?"
I raised an eyebrow. "Scared? Shame I'm not wasting time! Venonat, use Tackle!" My Pokémon ran across the battlefield and jumped into Weezing, forcing the Pokémon back a bit.
Petrel snapped out of his confusion. "Weezing use Sludge Bomb!" Petrel commanded. Weezing fired a purple ball into Venonat.
"Venonat use Psychic!" Venonat shook off the damage. She then sent a wave of Psychic into Weezing and launched the Pokémon into the ground.
Petrel started to huff. "Weezing use Hyper Beam!" Petrel's Pokemon fired a golden beam directly into my Pokémon.
Venonat rolled across the ground and seemed to be much worse off after taking the damage. "We need to hang in there Venonat!" I called to her. "Stun Spore!"
Venonat shook her body and sent several pellets into the recharging foe. "Now use Bug Buzz!" My Pokemon sent a sound wave directly into our opponent.
Weezing seemed to still be hanging on from the attacks. Petrel shook his head. "Listen kid, it's cute how badly you want to make things better. But, this is going to end just like it did for your parents. Flamethrower!"
Rage surged through my body when Petrel brought up my parents. His Weezing spewed flames into Venonat, striking the bug and blowing her back.
"Venonat, no!" I screamed. "You Team Rocket people are heartless, you know that? Venonat, please hang in there! We need to do this, for Mom!"
Venonat squeaked and her eyes snapped open. My Pokémon was surrounded by a bright glow. Four wings, two small ones on the bottom and two big ones on the top, extended from behind her.
Her antennae turned into spikes and a third larger spike grew from her head. Her legs vanished and formed into an abdomen. Then, her body thinned out in the center and her head became more developed.
"V-Venonat. You evolved." I said in awe, she flew over to me and nuzzled me. "You're a Venomoth now. Let's show them how strong we've gotten! Use Psychic!"
Venomoth grasped Weezing with her telepathic hold and chucked him into Petrel. The Weezing tried to move, but was paralyzed. I snapped my fingers. "Wrap this up, Sludge Wave!" Venomoth flapped her wings and sent a wave of poison directly into the opposing Pokémon.
Weezing collapsed, and Petrel returned the Pokémon. "Well... this is awkward." Venomoth trapped the man in a Psychic hold.
Red seemed to be coming to, and I ran over to untie him. Daisy, you're here? I nodded and untied him. "Are you ok?" Yeah, I'm fine. I knew you could stop him!
Suddenly, Red's Ivysaur burst from his Poké Ball. The Pokémon snarled at Petrel and waved his vines in the air. That same anger from before started to rise up again. Petrel's eyes widened. "Now hold on a second, pal!"
Red raised his eyebrow and walked over to Ivysaur, putting his arm on the Pokémon's bulb. Ivysaur, what's going on here? Do you know Petrel from somewhere?
The Pokémon nodded his head and growled again. I tilted my head. "What did you do to Ivysaur?"
The man's eyes widened. "Hold on, the little weed recognizes me? It must be one of the Pokémon we tried training. I like to collect Poison-Types, but he was a complete failure. Wouldn't ever let out his true strength or fight properly, and clearly it'd take too long for him to evolve. I'm surprised he even made it to an Ivysaur."
Red's eyes widened, and the boy clenched his fists. You... Ivysaur, I understand now. Red's Pokémon seemed to release some of his tension, and Red embraced the Pokémon before returning him.
I helped my friend up, and then turned my attention to the old man next to him. Ally appeared and undid the ropes. The man faded into consciousness and smiled.
"You ok, old man?" Ally asked.
"I'm quite alright now." He replied. "I'm surprised to see you helping."
Ally chuckled. "Well, I was sick of these fools running the town."
Red seemed lost. Hang on... aren't you the girl from Celadon City. Ally snickered to herself. "Girl? Not exactly, Mind Boy. Pretty neat power that you've got there."
This only made Red more confused. "I'll explain it to you in a bit," I assured him.
Red furrowed his brow, but focused on Petrel. Let's see if he knows where the leader is. I want to put a stop to Team Rocket once and for all.
We went over to Petrel, and Venomoth released Petrel from his hold.
"Alright, where is your leader hiding out?" I demanded. "You better tell me. Especially after what you said about my parents and what you did to Ivysaur!"
Petrel put up his hands. "Alright! Alright! I'll tell ya! Cerulean Cave's where our hideout is!"
Daisy brushed her hands together. "Then it's off to Cerulean."
Ally nudged the old man. "Hold on now! You owe them a little chat, Mr. Fuji!"
The old man sighed. "Yes, just one moment. If you could both come with me."
We walked down the tower and into the one of the homes. I recognized Mr. Fuji's name from somewhere, but I wasn't sure from where.
The elderly man shuffled over to a flipped over desk, opened the drawer and took out a black box. He opened it and took out a ring.
The ring was slick black and looked like it'd fit on my wrist perfectly. Then I noticed there was a blue stone with a black symbol engraved into the ring. Mr. Fuji handed the ring to Red.
"You have a special power, young child. You have the ability to bond with Pokémon in a way few can. So, I want to gift you this. This is a Mega Ring. It allows trainers who have a Mega Stone for their Pokémon to Mega Evolve that Pokémon if they share a strong bond."
I gasped. "Mega Evolution? Isn't that power extremely rare?"
Mr. Fuji nodded. "Yes. However, I believe your friend is ready for that. When you and Charizard go beyond your limits, you'll unleash a new form stronger than you could fathom." The mysterious man handed a red stone to my friend.
Red held the ring and rock in his hands. How does he know so much about me?
Mr. Fuji chuckled. "Word travels fast, Red. Especially given we both share the gift of speaking with Pokémon."
Red and I's eyes widened. "Team Rocket has a powerful Pokémon in their hold. Rogue Two. Be cautious. The Pokémon possesses a great amount of rage for humans. Best of luck in Cerulean."
I could tell Red had a dozen questions for the man, and I felt the same way. However, Mr. Fuji put up a hand. "Another time. You must go."
I looked at Red, and he decided to leave the building. I followed after him as he slipped on the Mega Ring and sent out Charizard.
We climbed aboard the Pokémon, and Red pat him on the head.
Alright buddy, do you remember where Cerulean is? He nodded. Then fly there, this is the final battle! Red's Pokémon shot into the sky, and we raced off to Cerulean City.
