Prologue

Fog spread through the forest, making it hard for the russet colored tabby to navigate his way. Above, thunder rolled and lightning illuminated the dark sky.

Though it wasn't raining the tom could feel it in the air, the suffocating heat of the summer storm.

He straightend his already pointed ears, trying to catch the slightest sound of the kitting queen he left in the forest moments before. He stood still, the bitter taste of the herbs filling is mouth.

Thunder boomed over head again, but the russet colored tom didn't flinch. Suddenly, and eerie wail filled the silence.

The tom picked up his speed and sprinted towards the eerie sound.

He approached a white She-cat, whose tail was brown and a large brown spot covered her back.

" I'm here Woodtail. " The tom spoke reassuringly.

He set the herbs down and turned to the queen, who had already given birth to a brown Tom.

The russet tabby licked at the kits fur before Woodtail spoke, her voice full of sorrow, " Don't bother. That one is already dead. "

The russet tom lifted his head and stared into her sorrow filled eyes.

Suddenly she convulsed and she gave birth to a small silver kit.

The russet tom immediately began licking and didn't take notice as rain started to pour down over them.

Once the little kit started to squeal, the tom began to knead the queens stomach, helping her with the last kit.

With one heave, a small slightly darker silver colored kit was born, her fur already long.

Once the kits were cleaned, it was hailing, icy pellets stormed from the sky.

Woodtail was sheltered under a large pine, her kits fluffy and warm.

" Thanks Russetfeather, these kits would be dead if it weren't for you. " Woodtail dipped her head graciously.

" Your welcome Woodtail. " Russetfeather curled his feathery tail around his paws, " May I ask why you are out on the territory and not in the nursery? Surly you knew your kits were coming. "

Woodtail didn't speak for a moment, Lightning shining down in the forest, " I knew they were coming. I didn't want to be in camp when it happened, I needed to be alone. "

Russetfeather nodded, his fur whipped behind him as the wind picked up, " we must head back soon, the storm is getting worse. These kits can't be out in this rain and hail to long. "

The queen nodded curtly and looked down at her bundle, " I'll name them before we head back to camp. " She gazed at them for a moment before she spoke, " The lighter silver she-cat is Icekit. And the darker silvered she-cat is Hailkit. "

Her sorrowful gaze drifted to the dead tom, " I will name him.. Volekit. I'll see you in StarClan soon enough my little one. "

Russetfeather felt his heart prick with sadness as he watched her stand and bury the little scrap of fur.

Once she was done she stood straight and nodded, " Lets get back to camp. "

Russetfeather nodded and grabbed Hailkits delicate scruff between his jaws.

He allowed Woodtail to trail ahead of him, the ground slick with mud.

Above the thunder rolled and the lightning cracked against the sky. Rain pounded down on the four cats that traveled back to their camp, little did they know that these kits would discover something that was better left hidden.

I'm finished with the prologue! I hope it was good! :3 Goodbye for now my warrior catters!
