Stupidity of love [Chizuru & Kaoru]

Before we begin, this oneshot narrates my head canon of what would happen to Kaoru on a Heisuke route and if he and Chizuru met after all the events with Sanan and where Heisuke and Chizuru already live together.  I have only played all of Heisuke's routes, since he really is the character that interests me the most, but I have seen certain things about the other routes.

I apologize if any of you who have played the entire game get upset about something, but as I already say, this is my way of imagining the character Kaoru Nagumo interacting with Chizuru on a Heisuke route.  And what the relationship between the two pf them would be like.

I have no more to say than enjoy ~ ♡

Love?  What was love?

A stupid feeling created by humans to call the act of mating or the simple fact of wanting to say in a more beautiful way the need to reproduce in order not to disappear, to justify the need to be close to those united by blood, to justify even  the most cruel acts in it name.  For a demon, love was not something important, nor were ties with people, only power was enough. For a demon of his level, there was no need for such a thing as friends or someone to love, but still, he wanted it. He had always wanted it.

He wanted everything that person had.  Perhaps out of sheer envy or the fact of not accepting to carry his own blood, ties that did not matter to him slowly damaged him and in the deepest silence in the dark he could still remember that face.  Yes.  He wanted it all.

Although he was not interested in something as ephemeral as ties and love, he wanted all the love she received, he wanted to be in her place, to have the support that she had just for being her.  He could not understand it and the more the thought circled his head the more calculating and cold personality of him tried to mathematically analyze the fact that someone like that could be so happy and that life smiled so much at her. It wasn't fair, it never had been.

Since he was little he had always tried, tried over and over again, to win that stupid feeling called love.  He wanted his father's love but it wasn't him who was in his eyes, on the contrary, he had been left behind having as his only memory of his father a mansion full of luxuries and a mother who never said beyond 'Poor, my dear child' when he had been the one who had been abandoned.  He didn't understand it.  Why protect a creature as weak as that what the blood called sister?  Why had his own father chosen that girl as his heir and successor?  Why had they left him behind and fled to Edo?  Always in the mouth of his parents was that annoying name.  Was it because female demons were so exotic and rare?  Should he be a woman then to get the attention he deserved as a firstborn?

Eventually that child grew up surrounded by luxuries and an empty heart that had no love, he always wanted to see the face of the person who had taken everything from him at birth, but he never dared to do so.  But since fate is a great Russian roulette player, between blood and the steel of swords he met that person for the first time.  Surrounded by humans, living as one woefully ignoring every ounce of lineage that contained her blood but still having the right to bear the name of that majestic clan while he could only have the leftovers. It wasn't fair, it wasn't fair and he could feel his blood boil every second he looked at her face.

"My name is Chizuru, Yukimura Chizuru.  You are?"

Those stupid words while she was giving the most idiotic smile to a total stranger.  How stupid could she be to reveal her full name to anyone on the street just because she had seen them in trouble?  He had nothing to thank her for even if they had saved him from some ronin, it was not necessary, but still on sheer impulse he did not know when his words left his mouth.

"My name is Nagumo Kaoru, thank you for your assistance earlier, Mr. Yukimura"

He had no need to continue in that stupid role but he still did.  He had had the opportunity to get to know the owner and cause of his misfortunes up close and he would make use of it even if he had to maintain the appearance of a woman.  He would make use of it until he saw her reduced to ashes in front of his eyes and claiming everything that by right of her was his.

Then without realizing that obsession and hatred that he carried since he was a child was feeding slowly until he even sabotaged one of the missions of the humans known as shinsengumi that she favored so much.  Trying to make everyone around her hate her but still when their eyes met for the second time, he didn't expect anything from what happened.

Being hunted by who he hated, he could have easily ambushed her, standing in front of her had so many opportunities to kill her in that very place but he didn't.  Even though there was no one watching, even though that man named Okita Souji had lagged far behind, even though he could attack wherever he wanted ...he didn't.  Because there it was again that look of her that made him nauseous.  And when he reacted he had replied that he had not done such a thing as going to a place at night or interrupting a mission of the shinsengumi, and the man named Okita had come to her side.

The moment a relieved sigh left that girl's lips, confusion seized him. Why was she relieved?  If he was a person whom she had seen for short moments and of whom she only knew the name, why was she relieved that the girl just like her, Kaoru, had not committed such an act?  Why put trust in someone who is not yourself?

And there it was again that stupid smile that tried to enter his empty heart without judging, without asking for anything, just to be there.  Even if she was being cheated on, she kept smiling.  Was she that stupid?  No, it wasn't like that.  And there they said goodbye, with him making a promise inside himself.  "The next time our eyes meet, I will take every last breath you have until I see every drop of life disappear from your body"

But still, that never happened.  He never saw that person again even though he was watching her from afar, their eyes never met.  Why was he even watching her?  For what purpose?  For what reason did he even make sure what she did every second? Being followed by that stupid imitation and keeping him as a pet, fighting a useless war to live one more day as if her life were limited to human laws.  Really stupid of her part, but stupider was him who was still watching from afar.

Seeing how after seeing a sea of blood, after seeing how in front of her each one of her useless ties was broken one after another, seeing her cling to the last.  After a world of violence and suffering watching how she clung to that stupidity called love and making vain promises that she was not sure of being able to fulfill or see the day after tomorrow, Kaoru could not understand it.  And the more he looked, the more he felt that he wanted everything she had. Love, a person capable of giving their life for him, being recognized as someone of value, as a worthwhile existence.  Then it happened on a night where her little pet named Toudou was sleeping.  Two pairs of golden eyes met under that moonless night.

"I'm glad to see that you've been enjoying good health, Mr. Yukimura." Her voice came out sweet as a woman's even though his clothes and hair no longer fell into that category, while in front of him was the person whom no longer wore hakama nor sword on her hips and without needing to pretend to be a man "or should I say Chizuru?"

The golden gazes that had previously collided with each other had completely disappeared and only two pairs of brown eyes were scanning the person in front of them.  Neither of them said anything for a good few minutes, they just stood there among the blanket of fireflies that was the only light that covered them that night.  Both waiting for a word from the other, analyzing each movement until the one who interrupted the silence was the young woman in the red kimono.

"Kaoru" Those were her only words, her clumsiness was not so big after all, and what Kaoru had been thinking all his life had been fulfilled in that simple sentence, he knew from the beginning she had only acted stupid at convenience. But why?

That simple word had opened a lot of doors for him that he intended to keep locked away. The reason for hearing that simple name that he called his had made him doubt his own existence for a second and when his body reacted he was face to face with the woman he hated so much and the bottle in his pocket seemed very tempting to use.  But first he had to hear certain things.

"You know who I am, I see." His voice came out the coldest he had heard in years as his eyes showed not a hint of emotion beyond an inner void rarely capable of being filled by something or someone.  On the other hand the identical copy of him in front seemed to be unaffected by any of that but by something deeper and sadder that Kaoru's eyes couldn't catch.

"Father told me everything ..." Chizuru spoke while holding her own hands tightly over her dress, the night before when she had heard the whole story for the first time, when she had understood the reason for everything for the first time she couldn't help but feel guilty, and still did.  Even if it hadn't been her direct intention, even though she was ignorant and harmed many people in the process and still stubborn enough to keep moving forward dragging everyone with her and trying to get them out of the darkness, she was still causing harm without knowing it. As if the mere existence of her was a damage to the world Chizuru could not stop thinking over and over again how much she felt she had been ignorant and treated as such as something so delicate that she can be broken, as someone from whom things must be hidden to protect her.  Chizuru hated it.

She hated the fact that every person she knew had suffered because of her, and she still did. Kaoru wasn't the exception, being denied everything for her existence, living in the shadow while still having the right to be in the light.  She couldn't understand her father's thought, not one bit, and apparently Kaoru didn't either.  She could see it in his eyes, eyes that from the first moment she saw they showed hatred and bloodlust worse than any rasetsu's.

Without warning she then crouched down, her head staring at the ground, her feet slowly lowered to her knees as support for her and both of her hands in front of them, totally reduced and exposed to him. A useless plea for forgiveness to someone who wasn't capable of feeling mercy and who such an act had only made his blood boil.

Why had that woman exposed herself in such a way? Why was she every time he saw her, she always gave him a wonderful million chances to end her sad life and replace her place as heir to the Yukimura clan? And ...why did he never do anything?

It was enough. It was already enough.

Every second of weakness that passed through his mind was completely dismissed as his eyes showed that madness that only rarely did he show someone. He felt that he was being tricked, that she were playing with him over and over and that his existence was nothing more than a game for each of the people he was to call family.  This time, there would be no turning back.  If she really was a worthwhile demon, something as simple as what he was about to do wouldn't be a problem at all.  But on the contrary, if she really was nothing more than a theater or an imitation of everything he should be, he would have ended that annoyance once and for all and would make her live a world of pain.  A world where it's kill or be killed and she would have to end up killing the one most loved of hers or letting him take her life instead.

His hands moved due to madness and taking the bottle from his pocket and with the other hand the neck of the woman on the ground, pushing her completely until she was with her back to the grass and with him on top, he pushed the contents of that little bottle  down her throat with such force that the body under him began to contract while the owner only coughed over and over again capturing in her mind what that red liquid was.

The sadistic face that Chizuru saw only made her want to cry, as the pain in her body became so unbearable that she wanted to scream and rip her throat as her body was pressed to the ground.  She felt like she was burning in hellish flames but still she didn't make a sound, just like Kaoru wanted, she was enduring him. Had she seen his intention from the beginning?  No, that was impossible.

"Come on, scream" His only words seemed like ice stakes on the person who felt every fiber of her body on fire and in the back of her head she could only think of things that had nothing to do with the current situation but were still the same. Strong and important enough to detract her from concentrating on Kaoru's face and more on the pain she felt. Had Heisuke felt this same pain?  Had his desire to live for her sake been so intense as to bear this?  All because he wanted to be with her one more time?  "I want to see that face again, the face you made when the human Toudou died, the face you made when you couldn't do anything just watch."

Kaoru's voice and a stabbing pain in her right shoulder made her react and the tears that she was holding were starting to come out one after another, but there was no sound whatsoever.  The tears that left her eyes were not because of any of the pain she felt, neither the flames in her body nor the steel that now pierced her shoulder, her tears were because once again she had understood the pain for which had past people valuable to her, the pain that some still went through just for wanting to be by her side.  Her mind could not help but think of the person who was waiting for her at home, she could not surrender to that pain and to Kaoru, there were things that she could not abandon and people that she didn't want to leave behind.  Also Kaoru.  Also her brother.

Her eyes that quickly turned red and her white hair scattered on the ground stared at the scene of other identical but golden eyes and similar hair a few inches away.  And determined to touch the heart that she could not see, she reached out her hands despite the pain and wrapped her arms around the boy on top of her, driving the sword deeper into her skin until his head was lying on her chest.

"I'm ... sorry ... Kaoru" With all the effort she could muster after enduring her pain, she was able to put her actions into words to be received with a useless struggle by the person trapped by her, she would not let him go so easily this time, she wouldn't let go of him until she was done.

"Let go of me, you bitch!" Eventually due to the jerks the sword came out of her body and fell next to both of them as the young man tried to use all his strength to free himself from the opposite embrace, but still impossible.  What was her intention after all?  She should be going through immense pain but still she was determined not to let it go and she had the strength for it. "Let go of me !!"

But his futile attempts to break free and screams were silenced as the force of the hug stopped and it just turned into a loving hug as she slowly stroked his head and one hand just held tightly his clothes asking for something that he did not understand.  Eventually he could feel the body under him slowly calming down as well.  She had endured it after all.

"I'm being a good little sister, a good girl... I'm receiving your punishment brother, so please stop hating me..." When those words left her lips, Kaoru was able to get up quickly as he felt that all the opposing force had disappeared.

The eyes that he once saw red as signs of a rasetsu were now nothing more than a warm, bright golden color while white hair remained on both of them and a pair of horns protruded from both heads, it was like looking in a mirror after all.  Except for the kindness in her eyes that he didn't possess.

"Chizu-!" Not knowing why his voice rang out in panic for a second until he saw the person blink under him and begin to speak in a sleepy tone.

"I still can't die... there's someone... I can't abandon, and now he's not just a person ... there are you too, brother." And those were the last words that the youngest of the Yukimura siblings said before falling asleep completely, after all that was the way she recovered most of the time from her injuries.

On the other hand the peaceful and relaxed expression on the girl's face was nothing compared to the surprise on the face of the young man next to her.  He was supposed to have gone to kill her, he had gone to finish once and for all with that deplorable woman but there he was, on her accepting her kindness and questioning her actions, with a hand on the opposite head caressing slowly without knowing the reason  while his golden eyes seemed to tremble for the moment.

"God, really, you're stupid." A sigh escaped his male lips as he slowly got up to sit next to the girl who was sleeping without any concern even after everything that had happened.  He couldn't help but smile and let out a small laugh when he saw how calm her face was and then put on his usual seriousness and look at how on the distant horizon there was a small orange thread indicating the sunrise.

The silence lasted a few seconds and then his voice found its place again.

"You're weak, stupid, and a couple hundred other things. You are the heir to our family and yet you still have the guts to join humans and sacrifice yourself for them by giving your blood to that demon imitation, just to keep him alive for a feeling as useless as love" Kaoru knew that no one was listening, he knew that his frustrated thoughts would only be witnessed by the fireflies that were disappearing one by one and by the sun that was beginning to rise.  He knew that no one in that place would hear everything he wanted to say but that was enough.  What she had shown him was enough  "Every time I see you I want to kill you, and I have tried hundreds of times but you always end up giving me that stupid smile even knowing that I want to remove every trace of your life with my own hands, you knew it from the beginning but you did nothing, how stupid."

Another momentary pause was found in his words and at the same time that his hand found its way to the opposite head and slowly caressed the place over and over again and then gently touched her horns and every detail of the face that was equal to his and at the same time so  different.  Without thinking much about it, he got up from the place and dusted the traces of grass slowly from his clothes and then bent down and carried the little sleeping girl in his arms to take her to one of the exterior corridors of her house and leave her leaning on a pillar gently sitting and with both hands on her lap making sure her kimono was well placed.

"But I still can't because you always put that stupid and idiotic smile as if everything would be better with just that" Yes, she always put on a stupid smile hoping everything would improve, believing that everything would improve, she was able to smile even at someone who knew had taken hundreds of lives, she was capable of crying for a monster and mourning the death of a murderer.  So was that stupid woman who shared his blood.  Someone who even thought his existence was valuable, the first person who ever did.  She couldn't be that bad after all.  "I guess deep down I'm stupid for loving you too, sister."

And saying those words, the golden-eyed demon disappeared at sunrise, putting something that he had not seen on his own face sincerely since he was a child.  A warm smile.  It couldn't be so bad to share those ties called blood with someone after all.  If that was family love, he could accept it.
