Harper: HOLD ON- WAAAAIT ONE FRICKING SECOND!....is that SERIOUSLY how you're gonna title the first chapter of the BOOK you're writing about ME?! I thought you loved me-!

Author's Note: Now calm down... seriously. I promise it'll be better in the future. But for now, everyone, welcome! This for a lot of people will be quite a surprise and delight as I haven't written for ages. But I feel as though I needed to get these ideas onto the paper-screen.. XD Oh but don't expect this to be.. entirely taken seriously. I'm kinda just going through this as if my OC were going through a Pokémon game. Partially. There will be genuine moments I will include, one specifically involving a very.. very special Pokémon current Harper owns-
Harper: SPOILER ALERT IT'S A LEGENDARY BOI-
Hey! Chill out, already! Aaaaanyways, I might as well get to the story about my 'beloved' child Harper. From where it all began...
CHEESY! Just get on with it, you know you're gonna lose the motivation for this real quick, ya know?
Right... Ok. Let's go then!

A ferry ship rocked slightly among the sea waves in a vast ocean, as it had taken course off an island in the direction of the mainland. Currents were high at this time of day but the small ship fought valiantly against the rough sea. Leaning from the bow's railings was a pretty gal with somewhat darkened skin and some really poofy chocolate brown hair tied down over her shoulder. Her eyes glistened a golden-brown color, and she wore the simplest of white halter tops underneath a green jacket and jeans. Upon her head sat a worn red and blue Pokéball cap, which the tongue of fluttered slightly against the strong, salty breeze. This girl of only twelve years' heart raced with excitement as she could see from the bow of the ferry the land she had been waiting the past one hour, 26 minutes, and 32 seconds to see. It seemed to just be some densely foliated chunk of land, but this was the land that connected her island town to the rest of the world, the beautifully diverse region of Hoenn.

It took nearly another 15 minutes for the ship to adjust itself against the wooden dock, and for the lively captain to hop out and grin as he tied his wonderful ship up to the shore. "Ah, well here ya are, folks! Littleroot ain't such a far travel from here now! I'll be seein' ya by mid-afternoon or so by the sun!" He would wave off the young brunette, along with two bright older adults who walked behind the jittery girl. A taller, dark skinned man wore a fishing cap along with his blue polo and grey khakis trotted as he looked cheerfully towards his smiley daughter with his sparkling gray eyes. "Well, Harper, how ya feeling now?"

"OhmygoshIcan'tbelievewerefinallyhere THIS IS SO EXCITING!" The girl, who's name you better believe was Harper, started to walk backwards so she could talk to her dad straight in the eye. She knew that in her household that was how you showed your respect, and despite all her energy she wanted to maintain herself for her loving parents. Speaking of a blonde lady with pretty green eyes walked along with the father and daughter, who was Harper's stepmother. While there had been a couple years of tension between her and Harper when good old Dad got engaged and married to her, the two put aside their differences and were now best friends. Of course nothing could really replace Harper's true mom, but what happened to her had to stay in the past.

"So, you're... very excited. You know what starter you're getting already, right?" Her mother inquired. Harper smiled but put on an odd scowl. "Actually, I uh-"

"What? You ain't gonna get yourself a Mudkip? You know that right there is the best starter, hands down!" Her father said only somewhat teasingly.

"Just.. I want to see if any of the starters... pick me I suppose. I can't be for sure that the Mudkip Professor Birch has will want to be my partner." Harper replied with a small hint of shyness.

"Nonsense, if you're a real part of the Lochstone family then that Mudkip will be all over ya!" Her father chuckled. For someone that confident about his daughter's choice you'd think Harper would be resentful of that. And admittedly she was, to an extent. But maybe he had a point. This niche of water types ran in the family. Harper's mother owned a prized Milotic and several other water Pokémon while her dad possessed of the most handsome and powerful Blastoise she had ever seen. Not like a Blastoise was a common site, but you can imagine how proud her parents would be with her owning such a grand water-type as a Swampert. Still... she would have to think. Luckily the 45 minute walk would be plenty.

{Timeskip~}

Harper could feel herself shudder with delight while she stared up at the large wooden door in front of her; the entrance to the Pokémon lab. She smiled brightly with excitement and waved her parents good-bye.

"Good luck, dear! Have fun!"
"Don't forget 'bout visiting your old man in Dewford!"

"Ok! See ya guys! I'll miss you!" Harper would respond hastily. Would she miss them? Well, sure, but now was no time to dwell on it! She was getting a starter Pokémon and she couldn't wait! She pushed herself against the door, ready to greet the Professor proudly... only to bounce back as the handles refused to budge. Odd. Didn't think the Professor kept his place locked up normally. But she dutifully knocked the door instead, waiting rather impatiently to hear some sign of life on the other side. But no footsteps, no noises, nothing. Is he asleep..? Wait, maybe he left town for the day. Or what if he's dead?! No no that's way too much of a stretch.. isn't it?

Harper tried searching around the edges of the building, frowning as to the fact while all the lights were on, nobody would answer or unlock the dang door. Now she was just irritated. She trudged off past the large building and was about to go talk around with the neighbors when a shout echoed in her ears.. and it wasn't the scream of some giddy child or even a wacky teenager. That sounded like a full grown man.. The heck?!

Harper skidded off in the direction she heard the scream, which directed her to outside of Littleroot down and into what looked to be the start of a grassy route, with a couple trees scattered on each side. But what actually was important to notice was a dark haired, bearded, middle-age man running around in circles like a loony while a gray dog with black markings on its face was chasing him, with a vicious, red-eyed death glare straight on the elder man. Being the only bystander, Harper grew frantic at this sight. "P-Professor?! What's happened?! Why is that mutt chasing you?!"

"N-no time to explain! Hurry! Grab one of the Pokéballs from my bag! QUICKLY!" He shouted with urgency as the small dog started trying to nip at his heels. And Harper bent down towards the bag, ready to pick a ball before she questioned something. "Sir can't you just kick the darn thing and make it stop chasing you?"

"Poochyena don't exactly stop when- GAH!" He yelped as suddenly another two of the dog Pokémon hopped out from the brush and cornered the Professor against a tree. Harper's innocent eyes widened in panic and instinctively she grabbed the pokeball and tossed it into the air. This released a proud little orange, fuzzy chick, with stubby wings and skinny legs, as well as a tuft of yellow feathers jutting from his head. As Harper quickly took note of what starter she had just released, the Poochyena took notice of Harper and this small chicken nugget on the ground. They began to crawl towards them both with a snarl, their white teeth glistening.

Harper froze in terror, shivering and becoming weak in her knees. She stared down at the fuzzy chick as he quickly realized he was being surrounded. She had utterly no experience with any fire types, and she didn't even know any sort of fire-type attacks this little puffball could use. "C-c'mon... SPIT-FIRE OR SOMETHING!!"

This shout quickly triggered the Torchic and he suddenly spewed a ball of fire from his beak, which scorched the face of one of the dog Pokémon. It whimpered and stepped back while the other two dogs attempted to pounce. Harper was having none of that, though, and she launched herself at one of the Poochyena, swinging her arm against it. This quickly followed with pain shooting up her arm as the mutt bit into her arm in response, yet she managed to shove it off of her as Torchic fended off the other Poochyena, rapid firing his fire ball attack until it and the other two skippered off. Harper clenched the side of her arm with the bite mark, but she suddenly felt a soft brush of fuzziness against her leg. Torchic had come up and rubbed her leg with sympathy, chirping happily. "Huh... thanks little dude.."

"Oh thank you- thank you so much! Yeesh, your arm though.. don't worry my dear I'll get that fixed up soon enough." Professor Birch huffed as he ran back over to the girl, leading her back into town.

{Timeskip}

Harper sat on a chair and rubbed her bandaged arm with a sigh. "Don't think Dad will like hearing about this... he'd go nuts, probably  search that whole dang route for the Poochyena and then beat them up himself."

"Haha! He would, eh? Well no need for you to worry." Birch responded as he was scanning the three pokeballs to make sure his three starters didn't sustain damages, especially the Torchic, from the Poochyena Attack. "Now, you said you came to pick a starter, eh? I didn't realize I had a new trainer coming today."

"Well my dad said he had spoken with you.."
Harper muttered timidly while she turned her head up to the professor.

"He did? Hrm- maybe that- OH now wait! You don't happen to be from Dewford, eh?!" He chuckled, while all Harper could do is facepalm. Wouldn't be the last time...

"Yep, good old Dewford... anyways I came to pick a starter, so could you show me the three you had there again?" She would inquire, pointing out the three aligned red and white capsules on the table.

"Of course! Why it's the least I could do, eh?" He grinned and pressed the release button on each of the Pokéballs. Then a green, bipedal gecko with a stern frown, a smiling amphibious fish with an orange fin, and the familiar fuzzy orange chicken nugget were freed from their confines. All of them stared up curiously before the Treecko made a growl and gave chase to the Mudkip. It squeaked and ran off the table only for the grass-type to follow suite. The only one who remained was the glistening-eyed baby fire chicken. He titled his head up and chirped sweetly to Harper, who smiled softly back while poor Professor Birch was trying to keep the other two starters from knocking over an entire shelf. XD

"I think I know which one of you I'm taking.." She smirked a little at the chick Pokémon, who began to bounce playfully on his two feet.

"Huh? You sure there, young lady? I can assure you these two are still good options, and this is a very big decision-!" Birch shouted back while he grabbed onto one very slippery Mudkip.

"I'm aware. But this is Torchic is definitely my buddy." She chuckled a little, her left hand softly stroking the top of his head feathers. The tiny chick cooed and chirped at this, tilting his head up.

The Treecko landed on Birch's head, while the Mudkip snuggled into his arms. He sighed and made a reassured smile at the girl. "Well, you two seem to have a connection already. Here's the pokeball." He nervously handed over the capsule, which Harper swiped up and held it victoriously.

"Alright!" She smiled eagerly, Torchic flapped his wings around and hopped towards the brunette, filled with joy.

"Say, uh, would you consider giving him a name?" The Professor asked politely to Harper, to which she responded by blinking and looking to the fire chick with a grin.

"Well- sure! Uhm.. let's see.. Nugget?" She waved that option for a second, but the chick puffed up in disagreement.

"Oh.. uhhh how about Flamey?" She smiled nervously, never really considering good nicknames for a fire type Pokémon. This one was worse so the little chicken huffed up, then spat out an Ember Attack. Harper's eyes widened and she swiftly ducked under the table to dodge. She popped back up with a scowl.

"Hey! Watch where you spit that-.. fire... Wait.. Spit- Spitfire! Yeah! How about Spitfire?!" She asked, this time more confidently. The chick beamed in the response to the name and did a little chicken dance. XD

"Perfect. Now what are we waiting for?! We got a whole region to explore together, buddy!" Harper reached her hand out with the pokeball, and Spitfire willingly pecked the button. This let him return to the safe haven of the capsule, clicking as he was reabsorbed. She then made a quick sprint to the door, but was promptly interrupted.

"Wait! Hold it right there, young lady." He stepped forward after he grabbed off a small red device from his desk, handing it to the brunette. "That oughta help you out big time! And besides, Pokedexes are required for new young trainers nowadays, since they've gotten some pretty nifty updates recently."

"Really? Huh, well thank you sir!" She called back to him as she returned to rushing out the door. As she swung it open in front of her, she felt the gentle, warm breeze brush against her face, and she grew a smirk. "This is gonna be great."

Suddenly, however, a large gust of wind zipped over Harper, the drift knocking off her hat in the process. Panicked, she reached out and quickly latched onto the hat, reapplying it to her head. She sighed, only to look up at the source of this sudden gust. Some large.. thing with sharp, stiff wings had flown right over her. The silhouette of the Pokémon had gone and went so fast that was all she could make out. While the incident shook her slightly, she calmed herself smiled up into the blue sky, eager to see what was coming next for her..

Aaand that's it for now! Hope you all enjoyed this.. mediocre start to the series. XD Hope you'll wanna stick around for more, cuz this is just getting started..
