Chapter 5

When I reached the classroom, only a boy named Kaminari was still there.

"I was asked to wait here for you," he smiled. "We have hero training today. I'm to take you there."

I nodded to him, then slowly began to follow behind. I began to wonder how I had lost Mina and not seen her turn away from the classroom, but I quickly shook it off, blaming it on my excitement for the afternoon to come.

Once we reached the gym, all of the other students were already broken up into groups or training by themselves. I watched in awe for a moment, amazed at all the power in the room.

"Ah, Kaminari, thank you for bringing Zara here. You can go get to work."

Kaminari nodded, then smiled at me before running off.

Aizawa turned his attention toward me. "I know we evaluated you and your quirk upon your enrollment, but I'm going to test you again. Based on that, I'll know how to better train you. Are you ready?"

"You're training me?" I asked him, confused as I glanced around the room. "Why? Everyone else is by themselves or helping each other."

Aizawa stared at me for a moment, looking bored. "You really think anyone else would be able to train with you? They won't even know you've done anything. I'm the only one here who will."

I didn't answer him.

He sighed. "This is going to be the longest hour of my life. Let's get started."

As it turned out, I only made it through the first half hour of class before my migraine became so intense I couldn't continue training. A few students tried to take me to Recovery Girl, but I declined, telling them I just needed to sit down for a bit. So for the rest of class, I sat in a chair in the corner of the room and watched the other students practice.

Uraraka was making objects and herself float up to the ceiling, Midoriya was punching rocks, Todoroki was shooting fire and ice everywhere, and Kaminari was, well... I leaned forward slightly and squinted my eyes, straining to see. What was he doing?

After a moment, I was able to see he was holding some sort of cord or wire. I followed it a few feet and noticed it was connected to some sort of machine. He was smiling as I watched him burst into a ball of electricity, and a light on the machine glow.

"It's a safe way for him to practice outputting electricity," came a voice from beside me. "It absorbs all of it and tells him his voltage."

I snapped my head to the source of the voice, and was startled to see a tall, almost skeletal looking man with long blond hair and a hunched back. He held up his hands.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to frighten you. I saw you over here by yourself and wanted to check on you."

I immediately tried to stand and apologize for being startled, but my migraine came back then. I held my head and sank back into my chair. "I'm sorry. I'm okay. I just used my quirk too much..." I raised my head a little, then. "Um, who are you? I've never seen you around the school before..."

He jumped at my question, seeming slightly nervous. "Ah, right. Well, I'm All Might."

I jumped in my seat, shocked. "All Might? But what happened to you? You look so different!"

He gave a small smile. "I had a big fight and had to retire. You hadn't heard about it?"

I shook my head, looking down at my hands. "No, I hadn't. I've been a little... preoccupied the last several months." Of all the people I didn't want to know of and judge me based on my past, All Might was at the top of the list. What would he say to the fact that the school let in a villian?

He gave a sad smile, and I couldn't understand why. When he turned and sat beside me, though, that thought was forgotten. "So," he said, "how are you liking UA? I know it's only your second day here, but you should have a little bit of an understanding as to what goes on at this school. And I hope all of your classmates are being nice to you."

I sat up straight, nodding. "Yes, I love it here. And everyone has been very kind to me." I paused for a moment, then quietly added, "Well, except for the rumors, at least."

To my surprise, All Might didn't seem startled or confused by this. He sighed. "Yeah, they've been spreading around most of the school. We aren't sure how to stop it."

I looked up at him. "Do you... believe them?"

He glanced at me with a warm smile. "Zara, I feel like you should know that most of the staff at this school knows of your situation. I'm sure that's not something that will sit well with you, but it was a key factor in getting you into the hero course like we did."

I felt my shoulders slump as my heart dropped to my stomach. Of course they all knew. Of course he knew. But he didn't seem repulsed by me. He wasn't trying to avoid me. We were having a conversation like two human beings. It was nice to speak to someone I'd looked up to for so long and not have him judge me for what I had been forced to do.

But was the reason why they didn't know how to quell the rumors because they were all some version of the truth?

"Anyway," All Might said, stretching as he changed the subject, "a little bird told me you and a group of friends were going out for a little while after class. Who all is going, if you don't mind me asking?"

I felt my fists clench the fabric of my shorts. "I'm not sure. I don't really have any friends yet."

All Might looked out over the training room. "Maybe not, but your class is filled with some really great kids. I'm sure you'll find someone out of them who will want to get to know you better."

I released my shorts, then looked over at him with a smile, holding back sudden tears. "Thank you."

He smiled and nodded, then stood. With a wave, he turned and left the room, and I turned back to my classmates, wondering which of them would be the person All Might was talking about, or if maybe there was more than just one.

I leaned back in my chair happily, ready to see what the rest of the day had in store for my class. Class 1-A.
