Prologue

Waves crashed against the shore of a small island in the middle of the sea. The tropical-colored waves were small, mostly lapping at the sand of the island. It was calming in the clear, starry night. The beautiful atmosphere of the island gave it a calming charm.

A tall, young looking woman sat in the middle of the small island, seated on some large, flat rocks. Her light blue, airy top and bottom blew in the gentle breeze, her sea green eyes staring out to sea, ignoring the four, large, tall rocks that loomed over the island, shooting into the sky. She ignored them like she was used to them.

Atop her long, black and blue streaked hair rested a crown of seashells and pearls that seemed made for her head. The woman was beautiful. Her dark skin shined with an ethereal sort of light, though it was quite subtle. Barely noticeable to the bare eye.

She was silent as she sat on the rocks, lost deep in thought. But something stirred her quickly. In a quick flash, a second young woman appeared, sharing a few similarities of the other, like her facial features and the same, dark skin. But other than that, she was completely different.

Dark hair flowed down her back. Sharp, amber colored eyes bored into the other woman's sea green eyes. A crown of fiery red flowers rested on her head, matching with the black and red of her dress, seeming almost like fire. Before the other could barely react, the newcomer spoke.

"It has happened. He's been born," the newcomer spoke, her tone light and crisp. The other woman stood, her height barely towering over the other's.

"A he?" the other spoke.

"Yes, a boy. I just saw. He was born just a couple hours ago."

"Is he. . . did it work?"

A small smirk rested upon the fiery female's lips, nodding her head. "From what I can see, yes, it did. Your work paid off, dear sister."

A delighted look crossed the other's face, a hint of a smile appearing on her lips. "Wonderful. I wasn't expecting a boy, though."

"Neither was I. Honestly, I pity him a little. The poor thing will grow up in a world where he doesn't belong. Living among humans while in reality, he isn't one. Alantè, he's going to suffer!"

Alantè shook her head, smiling gently at her sister. "I prepared for this. He won't know anything. As far as they know, he's human. Not until he's old enough will it start to be revealed."

"Please tell me you spared him the horror of scales!"

She laughed, shaking her head at her sister. The woman was amused by her worries.

" Amantè, please, don't you have more faith in me than this? Of course I did. Though, I'm not quite sure how is anatomy will be, but he will not have scales."

Amantè sighed in relief, nodding her head, before her face grew concerned. "Will you be able to watch him like the rest of us can?"

Alantè shook her head. "I can simply sense him, I cannot watch. My abilities have greatly diminished."

"I still think we could've found another way to do this."

"Hush hush, sister. I will be fine, they will return with time. Promise you will keep me updated?"

The fiery woman's features creased with worry, but yet, she still nodded her head. "I promise."

Alantè nodded, then sat back down on the flat rock. "Good. You should return home."

Amantè nodded, bidding farewell to her sister, before she disappeared in another bright flash. Alantè sighed to herself, staring up at the starry skies, her eyes full of concern.

"I just hope he can find his way back home."
