Chapter 11
-Katelyn's POV-
"Alright, Ms. Flowers," the doctor says calmly as she walks back to me. "I know you're probably very tired, but I can you answer some questions for me?" I nod and she grabs a notepad before continuing. "I know this experience must have been very traumatic, so we can stop any time you'd like, but it would help if you answer all of them."
"Alright," I say quietly.
"Okay, let's get started," she says and I rub my arm nervously. "Did he touch you inappropriately?"
"No," I answer and she nods and jots something down.
"Did he give you any drugs while you were there?" She asks.
"Yeah," I mutter and she gives me a nod of encouragement. "He gave me something that knocked me out a couple times."
"How many?" She glances up from her notes.
"Twice, I think."
"Alright, did he hurt you at all aside from the restraints?" She questions.
"I mean, he pushed me around a bit," I shrug. "But nothing too bad."
"Okay," she nods. "Are you in shock right now? Are you aware of what's happening?"
"Yes," I nod.
"Okay, can you tell me how long ago you came out of the building?" She asks, probably still making sure I'm not in shock.
"About ten minutes, I think." I answer and she nods.
"Thank you, that's all I need from you," she says and stands up. "I'm going to go find Mr. Parker for you, and you can probably go home soon."
I nod and she walks away, leaving alone. I look around and realize that it's dark outside, making me wonder how long I've been here. Did Lilah notice I disappeared? Did anyone tell her what happened? I'm interrupted from my thoughts when I see Peter jogging over.
"Hey," He says and hops up next to me, looking at me in concern. "How do you feel?"
"I'm alright," I shrug. "He didn't really hurt me that much."
"That's not what I meant," he says softly and I look over at him. My eyes tear up and he wraps an arm around me, pulling me into his side.
"I was so scared, Peter," I whisper. "I didn't let him see him though. I didn't cry at all, not till the end."
"I know," He mutters and kisses the top of my head. "You're so brave."
"It was a trap, you know." I say, tears falling freely down my face. "He wanted to get you there so he could kill me in front of you. He told me."
"Kay..." he trails off, holding me tighter. "I'm so sorry... He only came after you because of me, it's my fault-"
"No," I say firmly, pulling away to look at him. "It's not your fault. It's his fault that he has so much hate inside him. He would have found some other way to get me if that hadn't worked."
Peter nods and pulls me against him again, the two of us just soaking up the other's presence for a moment.
"How long was I missing?" I ask quietly and he sighs.
"About a day and a half," he answers and my eyes widen. "It's 1:00 a.m. right now."
"Where's Lilah?" I question.
"She's with May," he says. "She knows everything."
"Oh," I say. Part of me was relieved I didn't have to lie to Lilah anymore, but another part of me worried that she would be put in danger now too.
"Thank you for saving me," I mumble.
"You're welcome," he chuckles and kisses my temple. "I love you."
"I love you too."
----------
"I can call May to pick us up or I can swing us back, your choice."
"I guess swinging would be faster," I mumble and see him smile a bit. He pulls his mask on and motions for me to come hug him.
I walk over and hesitantly put my arms around his neck, squeezing my eyes as I brace for the takeoff. He wraps an arm around my waist and yanks us up in the air, making me yell out and put my legs around his waist. I have a feeling that I'll never get used to this.
I squeeze my eyes shut and cling tightly to him, making him laugh. It's not terrible, but I don't like it much. Maybe we should have called May.
"You okay?" He laughs and looks down at me.
"Just peachy," I squeak out, making sure I don't look down.
"We're almost there," he says and I let out a sigh of relief, allowing myself to peek out for a few seconds before he lands.
I wobble at the harsh landing, still a bit weak from my lack of food, and Peter holds my waist to steady me. He looks at me with a concerned expression and I just wave him off, signalling him to go inside. He climbs in and turns around, holding out his arms to help me in. I ignore the dizziness and slide in, letting him set me gently on the ground.
"We're here, May!" Peter calls and I hear hurried footsteps until someone throws open the door. A red-eyed Lilah runs toward me, making me yelp when she tackles me in a hug. She pulls back quickly with a guilty expression.
"I'm so sorry, did I hurt you?" She frets, smoothing down my tangled hair.
"No, I'm okay," I assure her and she wraps me in a much softer hug, holding on a lot longer. "Can I sit down?"
"Yes of course," she says and I sit on Peter's bed.
"Do you need anything, honey?" Mau asks from behind Lilah. "Clothes? Food? Water?" I start to shake my head but Peter cuts in.
"She needs to eat," May nods and leaves the room to get some food. "I'll get you some clothes you can change into."
Peter walks to his closet and grabs a couple pieces of clothing and hands them to me.
"May should have food ready by the time you're done," he says and I tear up slightly as I turn away and walk to the bathroom.
I have absolutely no idea why I want to cry, but suddenly I just want to bawl my eyes out. I know I can't do that though. They're already treating me like glass, I don't need them to baby me more.
I slip the t-shirt and sweatpants Peter gave me and grab the extra toothbrush Peter has for me. I quickly brush my teeth and start to try and tame my hair, but give up after a few seconds.
I walk back out of the bathroom and see May waiting with a bowl of Mac N' Cheese and some water. I sit down on the bed and grab the food, slowly starting to eat it.
"Peter, why don't you help me clean up in the kitchen a bit?" May asks quietly and Peter looks at me for a second before nodding and walking out with May, leaving me with Lilah.
"I'm sorry," I say after a few seconds of silence.
"For what?" She asks and I avoid her eyes.
"For not telling you about Peter," I say and she shakes her head.
"No, I knew something was up. You're both terrible liars." I laugh and she continues. "I mean, the weird looks, your heightened stress, Peter's random bruises; I was honestly starting to think you were doing drugs or something."
"Really?" I say and she laughs. "You think I would do drugs?"
"No, that's why I was so worried," she admitted. "Kay, I've known you longer than anyone. I know when you're not yourself, and you haven't been after you started dating Peter."
"It's not his fault," I say quickly.
"I know," she sighs. "It's just hard knowing who he is puts you in danger."
"I'll be okay," I smile, even though I don't completely believe it. "He'll always come after me."
