AND NOW FOR LE PROLOGUE:

A red haired little girl, probably only seven years old, was running faster then her legs wanted to take her. She turned the corner, skidding before dashing forward. She cut another corner, placing her hand on the ground and slinging herself around it like a rag doll.

Footsteps echoed behind her, pushing her forward like the wind. Her breath was strained, her energy fading until she had to stop for a breath. So she took what she thought was a shortcut, and if it had been it would've saved her.

But stories don't go like that.

It's was a dead end, she was trapped. There was a tall wired fence and when she tried to climb up it, a shock went through her veins. Electric fence, why wasn't she surprised? Life did happen to hate her.

She turned around, rolling her sleeves up. The skin lining her arms had patches and lines of other colours varying from pale to dark, and cuts and bruises were scattered along her skin.

The small girl couldn't fight, not for the life of her. She was scrawny, not strong at all. Yet she could bluff her way out, she could lie. She could say she had powers like one of the strongest, she could say that they lied when they said she was normal to hide it. But she didn't, she couldn't lie. It felt wrong to the child, who brushed her wild red hair behind her ear. She would face them, even if she really didn't want to.

Kids probably older then her by a year or so rolled into the alley, surrounding her. She gulped, feeling her knees go weak. She wished her older brother was here, or her parents. They had powers, they could help. The little girl didn't want them to know about this though, so she took a shaky breath and turned to the assumed leader. They were kids, sure that was true, but they were kids with remarkable power. All of them.

All of them but her.

"L-leave me alone!" The seven year old commanded "O-or You'll b-be sorry!" her voice was laced with an uneasy stutter as she tried to be brave. The kids laughed, pointing at her and rolling their eyes.

"You're so scary~!" One mocked in a squeaky voice and the others around him laughed. The red head looked down, her hair disobediently falling down her primarily mocha tone face.
The kids started to activate their powers- ice, grass, water, basic powers that you'd find nearly everyone had. For a second, her eyes flashed with envy at the colours the children's skin shone.

"Let's play normie dodge!" They sung, and she prepared for a beating. Normie dodge was like dodge ball- but the balls were their powers, and they all aimed at the 'normie'.

She crossed her arms in an X shape in front of her, hoping to block a few blows. So many children were there, she wouldn't get out of here without some more cuts and bruises. Her parents would wonder how it happened. She'd have to lie again about how she got them- say she tripped, after all she was a klutz sometimes.

However before the children could land a blow, a voice cheerful and goofy sounded from above them. It rang through the air and the brown eyed girl turned to have her gaze clashed with that of a black eyed female.

"That isn't a nice game is it?" The girl seemed to be the same age as the red-head, jumping down and landing without a scratch. She gave them a innocently evil smile, and moved her palm to face the crowd. Her eyes swirled into a calm blue and her voice grew cold enough to scare even an adult.

"Run."

The kids scrambled away, all of them screaming the same thing at the new arrival; "Monster". The black eyed girl seemed normal to her however, and once all the kids had left she sheepishly thanked her.

"M-my name is Vala Persephone," The red head stretched out a hand, being mannerly. The other smiled and nudged her instead, causing Vala to look on in surprised.

"It's nice to meet you Vala! You're brave you know, standing up to those kids like that!" Her eyes shone but Vala shook her head.

"I'm a normie. I'm not brave, I'm not anything. I'm worthless-"

"Lies are bad for the soul~" The black haired girl interrupted Vala with a wink and a Cheshire grin. Vala was so surprised- no one had said that. No one. Everyone thought the same of Normies- they weren't worth anything, they were just a waste of oxygen. Why was this girl so different? She obviously had powers, so she couldn't be a normie to.

The girl had a dangerous, confident glimmer in her black eyes as she faced Vala, a grin etched into her features.
"You are brave, you are something, you have worth. Keep smiling and show the world that!" She cheered bouncing.

"Or I'll have to yell from the roof that it's true!" The girl sassily placed her hands on her hips and Vala didn't know what to say. A soft smile replaced her mischievous grin, and she looked Vala in the eye.

"It's my mission to make this world smile. That means normies included. One day you're gonna see your worth. One day you'll have to be a hero, because all the powers in the world can't substitute what you have!"

"And what's t-that?"

"Guts. You're brave whether you like it or not, and here!" She slid her butterfly ring off her finger and placed it in Vala's hands "Take good care of that, I'm trusting you with it! In return... Promise me you'll stay brave!"

The stubborn seven year old looked at Vala and Vala stretched out a pinky, nodding. The girl seemed confused and so Vala decided to explain.

"It's called a pinky promise! To me, it's a promise that can't be broken! You connect your pinkies like this," she demonstrated with the girl "and say I pinky promise!"

The other girl looked at her pinky with awe and wonder before looking back. She seemed like she was about to say something, when her eyes widened.

"Oh nose I'm late again!" She face palmed "Sensei will be so maddy! I'll see you again one day Vala Persephone!" She waved running off

"Wait! What's your name?!" Vala called after her. The girl turned around and tapped her chin, chuckling before yelling;

"You can call me, The Monster!"

And with that, she was gone. But the red-head didn't forget her, her smile, or their promise. Even if it became harder and harder to live up to. Though something made it easier. Something she loved and did everyday. Something that was happening as we begin our story.

"Ladies, Gentlemen and Its, hold onto your game boards, 'cause it's time for the main event!"
