Is it more than friendship?

Days and nights went by since the encounter with phantom. Jade's been living with him since, feeling her friendship with him grow. She's never had a friend before. It feels good. Jade now lays next to him, in the middle of the night, watching his chest rise and fall as he sleeps. Her own chest is filled with warmth for him. He is so dear to her. She couldn't bear losing him. He is her only friend. She lays her head close to his and closes her eyes.
"Hey, wake up."
Jade opens her eyes to Phantom's. One blue and one orange. Brilliant eyes.
"Wha..?" Jade half asks the question, still groggy from sleep. "Come on." He says urgently, probing her with a paw. "I have a surprise for you." Its still night. What could he possibly be planning? Jade follows phantom, tripping over roots and slipping on stray leaves, too tired to care. The Great Forest-as she came to know this place-has been a paradise during the day, but at night it's hard to see where you're going. Phantom stops at a lake in the open. He steps to on side to let Jade see. Jade gasps. Starts dazzle at the surface of the lake, reflected from above. "Phantom, how..." Jade is speechless.
"I know things, Jade." He says with such warmth. Jade feels like electricity is running between them. Phantom is just whiskers from her face. Jade feels her heart pounding, so loud she's sure Phantom can hear it. She'd never felt this way before until recently. What does it mean? But of course, Jade is well aware of the answer. Phantom turns to look at the star-struck land, and so does she. After a while, Jade decides to just come out with it. "Phantom? I... Uh..." She stammers. "I..." 'Out with it, Jade!' she tells herself. "I love you." She finally blurts out. Phantom, first shocked, then unsure, then warmly says "I love you too, Jade..."
