"Hello?" I sat down, holding the buzzing phone to my ear with my shoulder pressed the device against the cartilage. "Yes, this is (Y/N)." I hummed as I heard the faint murmuring that came from the other end of the line, nodding and furrowing my eyebrows.
"Oh, of course. I'll be there in just a bit." As the call ended, indicated by the loud buzzing I heard from the caller, the kettle on top of my stove squealed, and I rushed to get it. Clicking the stove's fire off, I lifted it by the handle and poured the hot water into a flowered mug, dropping a teabag into it.
"I'll drink this after I get home from the post office." I slipped on my shoes, carrying the bundle of papers and a parcel along with me as I trotted along the sidewalk, greeting my neighbors as I walked past them. I wasn't really in a rush, per say, but I didn't want my tea to get cold.
Approaching the building, I pushed through the glass doors of the post office and was met with a friendly face.
"Oh! Runaan, it's good to see you!" He turned around and smiled, coming up to hug me. I grinned, embracing him back. We separated and chatted for a little bit.
"So how's the boyfriend coming along?" I questioned, smirking suggestively. He chuckled and pulled out a necklace he was wearing from beneath his shirt.
"He gave this to me yesterday." Runaan then showed me his left hand. "This, as well." I squealed and jumped up, eyes gleaming excitedly.
"Fiancee! You have a fiancee!" I whispered, ecstatic. "You have to invite me to your wedding. It'll be phenomenal. Oh, my best friend getting married. This is amazing! Runaan, why didn't you tell me about it sooner?"
"I was afraid you'd be more excited about it than I was," he admitted, laughing and scratching the back of his head. "I almost passed out." I snickered, but then remembered the steaming tea I'd left at home. Rushing to the counter, I passed the mail to the guy at the front, and collected a few envelopes, then hurried back to Runaan.
"I have to go. There's a warm cup of tea at home with my name on it. Call me!" He gave a light laugh and bid me farewell. On the verge of sprinting, I ran as fast as I could back to my flat, legs almost giving away under me.
"Oh, I hope that it's at least lukewarm..."

Soren yawned and stretched, back from his morning jog. His chest heaving, he entered his small apartment, taking off his shoes. As he breathed in, he recognized something. The air had changed from its usual slightly musty smell to an aroma of fresh chrysanthemum and lavender.
"Did Claudia come again? I thought she was in the library..." he wondered aloud, peering over into his kitchen. Walking over to examine the cup, he narrowed his eyes in suspicion.
"This isn't the tea Claudia usually drinks..." He looked around, making sure that no one else was home. After confirming his hunch, Soren gave a big grin and wafted the scent up to his face. "I'm sure Clauds wouldn't mind if I have a little sip." Gently lifting up the flowered mug, he brought the tea to his lips and gulped down the entire thing, refilling it again with the last bit of water left in the kettle. He laughed in relief and satisfaction, chuckling.
"Sorry Clauds, but man that tea was good. Just the right temperature too," he muttered, setting the cup down. Stomach now sloshing with a kettle's worth of the liquid, he went to go take a shower. Stomping and sauntering towards the bathroom, Soren whistled the tune of "Toxic" and went his merry way, not realizing the apartment also belonged to someone else.
__
I was completely out of breath by the time I'd reached my living space. My hands shook as I held up the key to my door, unlocking it.
"Tea! Finally!" I had almost collapsed when I was reminded of my sole reason of booking it back to my flat. I excitedly ran up to the kitchen and stopped near where the cup was supposed to be, eyes still completely closed from the expectation.
"Yes, my t- huh?" Where my mug sat now lay an sad, slightly stained white flowered cup with a lone teabag in it. It took me a couple of seconds to register what had happened.
A thief drank my tea! A thief that broke into my apartment!
I was shaking, furious about the situation. Not because of the fact that a thief had broken into my house, but because of my tea. Talk about irrational decisions. But how had someone gotten in? My lock couldn't be picked, since it was automatic, and I'd remembered locking my door. Did someone have the password? I don't know anyone who likes to play pranks, and I don't even really interact with anyone anymore. Sighing, rubbing my temples, I hopelessly dumped the tea bag and started to groan, muttering in annoyance.
"Stupid freaking thief, goes into my kitchen drinks my tea... Stupid- Freaking thief..." I grumbled, vigorously scrubbing the sides of my mug, hoping to get rid of the pale yellow stain that coated the inside of the white interior. Once I was done, I set down the mug and was about to go sit down when I heard a thud come from my bathroom.
I wheeled around, eyes wide.
"Who the f-" I lived alone. It had been that way for 5 years. Was it the tea thief. Oh, if it was, they'd better be prepared for death. I grabbed a pan I had and quietly made my way to the bathroom door, and reached for the handle. Just as I was about it open it, I heard a male voice inside.
"Clauds, I thought you were at the libr-" The white wooden door opened, revealing a muscular, half naked blonde. His blue eyes met my eyes in a firm lock, showing confidence, and a few seconds passed before he let out the most high-pitched scream I'd ever heard in my entire life. It surprised me so much that I dropped the pan I was holding directly onto my foot.
I yowled, clutching my probably broken foot and hopped around, cursing in every language I knew, every word just coming out like a stream of water.
"Oh, motherf-" I had taken time to bite my bottom lip in pain, wincing when I flexed my foot. "Ah, shoot. That's going to take a toll on me. Gross." I sighed, looking up once more, face-to-face with the blonde.
"Who are you?" we both said in unison. I cocked an eyebrow at him and he made the same face back at me. "This is my apartment. Stop saying everything I say." I rolled my eyes, still angrily clutching my foot.
"Look, how did you get in? I live here." He snorted and waved me off passively, seemingly uninterested in my monologue.
"I live here too. I've literally never seen you." He then dramatically pointed a finger at me, going into a full-blown detective mode. "So you're a criminal! Breaking into somebody's property, how shameful." I glared at him, pointing my finger up to his chest.
"Listen here, this is my apartment. 2034 Wildwood Street, Xadia. I suggest you put on some clothes, and get out." He looked at me with confusion, blue eyes clouding over.
"Wait, repeat the address again."
"2034 Wildwood Street, Xadia?"
"Yeah... my apartment address is 2034 Wildwood Street, Katolis. Do you happen to live in another country? Did you get lost or something?" I flashed him a look of mixed disgust and confusion, my mind overshadowed with so many thoughts that the pain in my foot was almost gone. He pulled out his phone from the pocket of his shorts and searched up "Xadia" in the search engine.
"What..." he muttered under his breath, zooming in and out of the map. He then showed me the screen, which I looked upon curiously. "It says a place called Xadia doesn't even exist." I was flabbergasted, shocked, so much so that my heart started to race and my face flushed in embarrassment.
Has my whole life been a lie?
The blondie cleared his throat and gave me a smile, extending his hand.
"I haven't actually introduced myself yet. My name's Soren." I looked at his hand in disgust, glancing from the limb to his face, then back to his hand again. His grin faded to a shy, light smile as he sheepishly retracted it. "Oh, okay then." The facade I was playing with shattered and I burst out laughing, startling him.
"I'm just playing with you," I chuckled, grabbing his hand and shaking it. "My name's (Y/N) and I swear I'm not usually this mean. I was just kind of confused."
"Oh." His face showed pleasant surprise, followed by a dash of relief. Soren broke into a grin once more and brought me into an embrace. "I guess you're my new roommate then, person from a place that doesn't exist." He is the chillest guy I've ever met, holy crap.
My face heated up, realizing I was squished on the topless blonde. This brings a whole new level to the word 'indecency,' now does it?
"Ah... Soren?" I managed to gasp out, "You can let me go now-"
"Oh shoot! Sorry about that." He released me and my lungs had never felt that alive. "I get carried away sometimes." I snickered and fanned myself, realizing I was kind of sweating. Wonder why.
"But what are we going to do about this? We know almost nothing about why I'm here. Why you're here." Soren thought for a moment, humming to himself. Finally, he brightened up and smacked a fist on his palm.
"I have an idea!" he exclaimed, grinning.
"Seems like you don't get those very often." He gave me a look of disdain. I was quick to say that it was a joke, surprised by his reaction.
"Kidding, kidding." He laughed heartily and continued.
"My sister is like, really smart and I'm sure she can help us figure things out. There's a library not far from here, and I'm pretty sure she's doing volunteer work there. We can go check it out." I shrugged, reviewing my agenda for the day in my head. Almost nothing, except for checking a few emails. I shrugged and picked up my bag, walking to the door to slip on my shoes.
"Let's go." Soren smiled and rushed to the door, but I stopped him with my hand and pointed at him with a joking smile.
"You're going out like that?"
"Going out like wh- oh." He smiled, sheepish as his face turned a light shade of pink. "I should probably go put some clothes on." I nodded.
"Yeah, that would be preferable." He made his way into my room and hustled to open the closet, but then stopped.
"Uhh... I think I have a lot more clothes than I usually do? And some of them definitely don't belong to me..." I tilted my head in confusion and hurried to peer into the room. Startled, I saw some of my clothes in there, along with wear that definitely wasn't mine.
"Did our closets combine or something?" Soren and I exchanged glances and looked back at the closet.
"We gotta get to the bottom of this."
__
"I think the explanation is in this book." Claudia, or who I presumed to be Claudia, pulled out a book with a shiny cover. Soren and I peered cautiously at it, reading the title.
"The Discovery of Alternate Universes?" I questioned suspiciously. Claudia giggled and opened it.
"Let me explain," she started, skimming through the rather thin flipbook. "So basically the author in here, called Aaravos, I think, has had this theory for a while. He states that in the book, contrary to our world, there are other ones. In certain spots there are rifts, in which people from other dimensions can pass through to our world. The only known one so far is the dimension called 'Xadia.'"
"That's mine! I live in Xadia!" I exclaimed, elated. But my look of happiness quickly faded as another thought crossed my mind. I stood quiet for a second.
"Hey, what's wrong (Y/N)?" Soren asked, setting a hand on my shoulder.
"But how do I get back?" I whispered, looking down. He smiled and gently pat my back.
"If the rift can take you here, I'm sure it can take you back as well," Claudia said gingerly, smiling at me in an understanding manner. I hummed and fiddled with my thumbs, thinking once more.
"So where is the rift? Does the book say anything about that?" She flipped through more pages, lining the words with her fingers.
"It doesn't say where the rifts are directly, but based on the information here, it says that the rifts can be found in various places, mostly apartments and shopping malls. The rift only takes up the space of one place at a time, like the space of one apartment, or one store in the mall, nothing more, nothing less. Objects from the other dimension can also pass through, if they are within the rift's reach." She closed the book and looked up at me. "I think there might be a rift in your apartment, I'm not sure." I was surprised, to say the least.
"But why did it open now?" Claudia scratched her head and scrunched up her nose in thought.
"I guess some rifts take more time to develop than others. There have been reports of rifts in the past, but it wasn't very widespread. In the book it also states that Aaravos is the only 'scientist' who explores these rift things, and his work isn't very well-acknowledged in the scientific community." I nodded in understanding and turned to Soren.
"I guess until the rift opens again, we'll be stuck together." The blonde next to me grinned and smirked slyly.
"I don't see that as a bad thing," he teased, flirtatiously giving me a wink. I sputtered and whacked him on the shoulder. He groaned and clutched the area where I'd hit.
"I'm wounded. You've deprived me of function in my arm."
"Stop that," I protested, feeling my face getting flushed. I turned to Claudia, laughing awkwardly.
"We'd better get going now. It was lovely to meet you, Claudia." She smiled sweetly and gushed back to me.
"Yeah! It was no problem. Let me know if you need anything more, and I'll be happy to help!" I gladly nodded and waved goodbye, heading to the library door, mind set on returning home and brewing a new cup of tea.
__
Soren smiled, looking at the figure. He then felt a nudge on his shoulder, and found Claudia smiling at him, eyes gleaming.
"You're so obvious, Soren," she giggled, hands covering her mouth to keep in the usually boisterous laughter. "Even I know you like them. (Y/N)'s just your type, too!" He mumbled, face flushed, scratching his cheek in a shy manner.
"I don't know Clauds. I mean, we live together, but like... they're from a different dimension! It's so weird, and-" He sighed, running his hands through his hair, a tired look gracing his features. "I don't know. What if we never see each other again? I'd feel like I'm intruding on something. And what if they don't feel the same way? We've only just met." Claudia's eyebrows furrowed as she looked at her brother's pitiful expression.
"It's okay. You can do whatever you want to do. I know you're smart enough to make your own decisions, even though sometimes you don't act like it."
"Hey!" The blackette snickered, amused by his reaction.
"Anyways, they're waiting for you. I'll see you soon, gotta do my library work." Claudia waved him off, and Soren left, running back up to (Y/N).
"What took you so long? I was looking everywhere for you! Geez, I thought you were behind me." (Y/N) sighed, exasperated, but secretly relieved that they had found him. The blonde chuckled and winked.
"I didn't know you cared about me that much. We've only just met."
"Shut up already."
__
We'd arrived back at the apartment, and I headed to the stove straight away to brew another fresh cup of tea. Soren awkwardly stood around, waiting for something. Once I had the water boiling, I turned around and make idle chit-chat with him.
"You can sit down you know," I giggled, "After all, it's your apartment too." God, he's so cute.
"Right, right." He immediately took a seat on the sofa and turned on the television. A fencing match played in the background as the kettle squealed, my cue to get out two mugs and put the teabag in the kettle. I let it sit for a bit then finally poured the tea into the cups. The kettle was empty, so I just set it back on the stove, which I had turned off.
"Can I join you?" Soren quickly looked at me and turned his head back to the television, tensing.
"Sure, be my guest." I chuckled and brought the mugs over to him, setting them on the coffee table. The steam from the hot water blew into the air, quickly dissipating as quickly as it had came.
"It's still a bit hot, if you don't mind." I sat down next to him and comfortably watched the channel.
"Never pinned you as a fencing type of guy," I commented, eyes glued to the screen. Soren hummed and gently nodded.
"I don't know what I like about it, it's maybe because the sword fighting reminds me of something. Something that happened in the past." I laughed lightly and sipped on my beverage.
"That's nice." We continued to watch until an hour had passed, and by then our mugs were both empty. The match finished and the advertisements started to play.
Palm Reading! Go to your local psychic now to book an appointment!
"Oh!" I exclaimed. "I know how to do that!" Soren looked at me weirdly.
"You're a psychic?"
"No," I laughed, "I just know how to read palms." He looked mildly intrigued.
"Can you read mine?" Soren held out his hand, palm up and I grabbed it, turning so I could see the lines the reached across his hand. Using my finger, I traced each line and explained to him what they meant.
Halfway through the session I had realized how big his hands were and picked them up to examine them.
"You have giant hands, Soren, holy crap." I pressed my seemingly tiny hand up to his and gaped in awe at the size difference.
"I get that a lot," he whispered, face flushed. I was confused as to why he was embarrassed. There was nothing wrong with having large hands.
"Why are you so red? Did I say something wrong?"
"(Y/N)," he managed to mumble out. "You know that saying? The bigger the hands the bigger the..."
"Huh? What sayi- Ohh... Oh I get- Ohhh, oohhh, uuewww..." I scrunched up my nose and laughed, bringing my arms to hug my legs, body in a ball-shape, embarrassed to even think the thought. I buried my head in my hands as I continued to snicker to myself. Soren began to give a slight chuckle until we were both laughing with tears in our eyes. Once he had finally calmed down, Soren glanced at me to see if I was still laughing or not. My eyes met his and we just sat for a moment, seconds before he looked away, cheeks flushing red again.
"You're funny, Soren."
"Thanks." He smiled and shyly looked down at his hands folded in his lap. Even though I only knew him for less than a day, I could tell that he wasn't usually like this.
"Hey, everything good?" I set a hand on his shoulder, and Soren looked up at me.
"Yeah, yeah. Everything's fine."
"Soren..." He sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"(Y/N)..." He started, but then quickly faltered. I could tell he was having a hard time, so I just waited for his response. Once he'd finally gathered up all his words, he turned to face me.
"You're going to go back to your dimension, and I may never see you again, so I want you to know something." I nodded, eyes glued to his. He took in a deep breath and slowly breathed out. "(Y/N), I kinda like you? I don't know how to describe it, it's maybe just a general feeling of happiness around you? Uhm-" He laughed under his breath, averting his eyes from my gaze.
"Well, if I don't ever see you again, I just wanted to let you know that. But if I could see you again, maybe we can go out to eat or something? It'll be good, just you and me. But then again, I don't know how it would work, considering we're from alternate dimensions..." He breathed in again, holding his breath. "But I'm sure Claudia, since she's really smart, can maybe find a way to-" His sentence was cut off by my lips brushing against his cheek. Soren stopped, in a daze and let out the breath he'd been holding. The room was silent, except for the sound of my clothes rustling as I leaned back into my original sitting position.
"I'd like that Soren. I'd like that a lot." I smiled, cheeks tingling with a warm feeling as the blonde across from me sat still. His face slowly grew more and more red as I just looked at him, waiting for what he was going to say next.
Soren's face broke out into a grin, eyes watering.
"Oh thank God!" he wheezed, clutching his chest. He looked at me, happy as ever. "I thought you were gonna say no!" I bust out laughing, rocking back and forth.
"To you? Never!" He kept on smiling as he slipped my hand into his and brought it to his lips to kiss the back of it. I blushed, flustered at the gesture.
"Then it's a date."
"Yeah, I guess so."
__
We spent the rest of my time in his world cuddled together on the couch, my head rested on his shoulder, his arm wrapped around me, squeezing me tight into him. Our fingers were laced together as we started to watch fencing again. It felt like we had known each other for the longest time, and honestly, somehow I didn't feel like that was unreal.
"Soren," I whispered, yawning in between.
"What's up?"
"Can you take a picture of yourself on my phone? I feel like if I fall asleep then I'll just think it's a dream when I wake up." He nodded, taking the device and snapping a picture as I closed my eyes. I felt soft lips on my forehead and noticed the faint scent of cologne that lingered near my nose when he got close.
"Don't miss me too much."
I started to doze off, and by the time I woke up, I was alone again, my phone by my side. I rubbed my eyes and checked the time. 4 am. That's weird, I don't usually wake up at this time. Clicking open my phone, I checked my text messages.
"That's weird, I think I had the strangest dream last night." I hummed to myself as I checked my camera roll, and low and behold, he was there. I smiled pleasantly, looking at Soren next to my sleeping face, cradled in his arms.
Maybe someday we can actually meet again, and I'll go on that date with him.

Soren is actually my life hhhhhh
