Humming, I started to organize the plants, watering them and trimming them so they looked as perfect as they smelled. The aroma wafted around the room, the sweetness not sickly, but just the right amount to be reminded of the pollen.
My back was still turned as the bell on the front door rang just behind me. Once I ran out of water in the can, I slowly began to make my way around until I bumped into someone, gasping out of surprise as I fell into a rack of freshly potted petunias.
The stranger caught my hand, preventing me from falling any further, avoiding the accident that could have happened if I had completely lost my balance. However, I winced when I heard multiple pots shatter, a little piece of my heart breaking off.
"Are you okay?" The voice rang in my ears, and even though I could hear them, I paid them no attention as I quickly rushed to try and salvage the destroyed plant. God, this was horrible. I'd paid weeks and weeks of attention to them, and now they're ruined. Great.
I sighed, almost on the verge of tears, gathering the broken pieces of clay, scooping up the dirt with a dustpan.
"I'm so sorry about that, I didn't mean to scare you," the voice said again. The figure stooped down and helped to clean up the small mess. I laughed bitterly, stifling a sniffle.
"No, it's fine. It's my fault anyways. I'm so clumsy, honestly," I murmured, my eyes stinging. "It's not your fault." Gently, I picked up the last remaining pieces of the pots and threw them away, sighing. I emptied the dustpan before coming face-to-face with the person who'd walked into my shop.
A man, not much older than me, about a couple months, at best, maybe a year. He had matted gray eyes and soft brown hair, a little goatee forming at his chin. If I was honest with myself, he was kind of cute. A soft smile graced his face as he met my eyes.
"I was just here to pick up my order," he said softly. "I didn't mean to trouble you this early in the morning." I stood there for a minute, fixed on his eyes until he broke eye contact, looking away awkwardly. Flustered, I immediately went to fetch his flowers.
"Of course, of course, how silly of me," I laughed, a nervous lilt to my voice. "You are...?"
"The order is under the name of Harrow. I'm simply a friend, here to pick it up." I nodded, smiling discreetly. How chivalrous. While gathering "Harrow's" order, I slipped in a few daffodils, arranging them to make sure that they shone brightly.
"Here you are," I replied, handing the bundle to him. "Your bouquet." He examined the flowers, noticing the few extras. He looked at me in confusion, and I grinned at him.
"For you. A gift, for the kind act you did me and your friend. He's lucky to have you." The corners of his lips were tugged upwards into a small smile, cheeks tinted pink.
"Thank you." With that, he left the shop, the bell on the door dinging to signal his departure.

Every day from the first time we met, I'd see him, either entering the store himself, or just walking past. I couldn't believe I was this smitten over a man that I didn't even know the name of. The scent of the orchids and roses were becoming more enticing to me every time I thought of him, my cheeks warm at the memory. A few months in, and I was still daydreaming when the bell hung on the door rang.
I lifted my head to find none other than the grey-eyed stranger himself at the door.
"Oh, what brings you here han-" I bit my lip, cursing at myself for almost saying "handsome" to him. He raised an eyebrow in amusement, finding something funny about my hopeless self.
"-handy man?" No, that was even worse! He began to laugh, something I didn't see very often. The way his cheeks puffed up, the brilliance of his lips and teeth, and the small habits he would enact sent shivers up my spine and blood up my neck, spreading to my face.
"I don't recall telling you I had a job in construction," he teased, heading closer to the register where I stood.
"N-No, you didn't. I was just joking," I laughed nervously, my eyes darting away from his. "Funny right?" He gave another chuckle, leaning on the counter. I gulped, looking at the rings on his hands.
"But you know what I do recall?"
"What?"
"Not even telling you my name. Shouldn't have given me those daffodils. It's not very chivalrous, after all." Oh God, he knew.
I panicked, trying to laugh and giggle my way out of the situation, but to no avail, as he stared me down with a smile. My lungs practically gave out at the end of it all, allowing for him to speak as I recovered.
"My name is Viren. I'd like for us to formally introduce ourselves to each other." I groaned in defeat, succumbing to his wit.
"I'm (Y/N), nice to formally meet you after knowing you for months," I replied, tiredly smiling. He shook my hand with a satisfactory grin, finally re-positioning himself with one hand on the counter top.
"Are you here just for the introduction?" I sighed, letting a hand go up and fall down in an uncaring manner, a hand propped up against my hip. "If so, it's already over, I guess." Viren hummed, seemingly unsure of my proposition.
"I'm not just here for the introduction, (Y/N). I'm here to make an order." I nodded, listening to what he wanted.
"Just one red rose. One that will stay fresh until next week rolls by." I thought for a minute, trying to figure out what day it was.
"So if today is Wednesday, then would you like it to stay fresh until earlier than next Wednesday?"
"Yes." I think I got the gist of it, and proceeded to go to one of the buckets behind the counter, pulling out a not-yet-ready-to-be-displayed rose, gently shaking off the water, placing it in a plastic bag with a solution to help it stay the same until next week.
"Alright, here you are." I handed it to him at the same time he handed me the money. I took it and Viren turned his back, smelling the blossom with his lips curved up, eyes closed. He made his way to the exit and pulled out his phone, typing in a few buttons before completely leaving the shop. Soon, my phone buzzed.
I slipped it out of my pocket to check it, seeing that it was a new order. I swiped to see what the customer wanted, and my heart jumped up my throat, face flushing a rosy hue. How ironic.
My mouth spread into a grin as my eyes sparkled, heart beating fast as I read the message.
New Order!
