The pebbles underneath my feet crackled as I made my way up the path, heart hammering inside my rib cage at the strenuous efforts I had to endure to reach my destination.
Almost there, I told myself as my legs ached and my feet burned, something that seemed, in the moment, like it would be the death of me. I only hauled my body up onto the top of the trail, nothing else. This was one of the many wonders of our fine Earth.
I closed my eyes when approaching the sight, careful not to slip or step on anything bizarre.
Closer and closer I got, the divine breath of the wind breezing through my hair, placing light kisses on my skin that sent shivers down my spine. Through my sandals, the sprouts of grass tickled my feet. The more and more I dove into the nirvana, the longer the grass grew, and that grass soon transformed into wheat, reaching up to my elbows, the stalks gently brushing against my knees.
I felt the urge to stop when I traveled through a thick layer of vines, finally feeling the full extent of the fresh air puff onto my skin at this point. Slowly, I uncovered my eyes and revealed everything.
Everything.
There I stood, in the middle of a great plain field, watching as the golden tipped wheat shone ever so brightly against the glowing light. I took a deep breath in and felt the breeze, Zephyrs, run along my skin, playfully tousling my hair behind me. Yet there was no sound of wind -- only the forest's melodies that rang behind me: the shaking of the trees, the murmuring of the birds.
All around me there was the sound of nature, pure and unfiltered, embracing me in all of its glory; gently, but unrelentingly grasping my mind and melting it down to its finest fibers, then plucking it like the strings of a harp.
In front of me, the Sun.
The ball of light painted across a velvet sky. Brilliant rays of light soaking into the Earth, giving the ground its depth and shimmer.
So here, where the wind ran wild and everything was just as it is -- perfect, open, calm.
It felt like I could've done anything. Anything, with the help of everything.
I closed my eyes once again and felt a warm sensation on my right hand. It was like someone was there, holding me. The feeling now blossomed in my chest, then in my face. With my other hand, I reached and touched my rosy cheeks and thumping heart. Then there was an arm wrapped around me, hugging me like the world was ending in this heaven we were in.
Suddenly, the wind crashed down upon us, making the wheat roll and my hair fly up, but the warmth never left me. It stayed there, its head buried in my shoulder and its arm holding onto me like I was the last precious thing left. I heard the cymbals of the birds shrieking and the ringing of their wings flying away, the sound exploding behind me, a wave of motion.
The trees vibrated, daring to fall, daring to release their leaves and cause tornadoes of beginnings, making paths of circles in the atmosphere, blowing away with every step of dance Zephyrs took. The god spun in the sky, howling and carrying with him his mischievous nymphs. I prayed that I wouldn't get swept away in the wind.
The sky crashed with terrible sounds, a dissonance that echoed through the plains. I fought the urge to look up, depending on the warmness to keep me grounded. My arms flung out, latching onto the figure who had been holding me so tightly all this time. They pressed their body onto me and we stayed there through the disruption. I could feel their fingers softly stroking my shoulder, their arms promising that they would not let me go, that I was safe.
Wordlessly, as the violent gusts ceased, I felt their hand slip into mine. I lifted my head and parted away from their hold, my eyes shut tight, afraid of what I would see if I opened them. I was beginning to think I was imagining things when a gentle chuckle rippled through the air.
Love, open them. You have nothing to fear now.
Like magic, my eyelids parted and in front of me there was the same view, but now, a man had appeared. His ebony skin had an ethereal shine, hazelnut irises delivering the same feeling. Dressed in a white toga with his hair pulled back, I immediately recognized him.
Corvus?
He smiled and held out his other hand for me to take. I grabbed it without thinking twice and fell into his arms again. Gasping in surprise, I clung onto him and raised my head, my pupils adjusting to the sudden influx of light combating his facial features. With another grin, he took my hand and placed it onto his cheek, allowing for me to cup his face and lean in.
I missed you. I missed you so.
He nodded knowingly, as if it had been said a thousand times over and over again. Then he stopped, waiting for something. I laughed in response, the sound of joy blessing my lover's ears. We were thinking the same thing -- that something was missing in our tearful reunion. Of course, how could we not?
So I kissed him, eyes closed yet again. He held my body with his hands and pressed back, soft lips moving against mine.
Now the evening Sun had fallen and turned the day into night. The Moon rose above our heads and the soft murmurs of the stars twinkled in space. The feeling of wheat still tickled our knees and comfortable waves of silence engulfed the moment.
Everything stood still, and I wasn't alone anymore.
