When He's Irritable.
Neither of them have slept much since arriving at Punk Hazard.
They're not exactly sound sleepers anyway but knowing that they're surrounded by future enemies makes it all the more difficult, it's never easy to tell when they're being watched.
They sit on opposing sides of the double bed, both reading their respective books. Since they made themselves appear as a couple, they're expected to share a bedroom, not that it really bothers them.
Kyo has slept on his chest before so sleeping beside him doesn't seem like such a big deal - if she could sleep, that is.
The only issue is that due to his lack of sleep recently, Law has become progressively more and more cranky than usual, a grunt escaping his lips when the girl shifts a little in her spot. Her legs have gone numb from being crossed for too long so she throws them over the edge of the bed, her eyes never leaving her book.
The only problem now? She's wearing night shorts since she's supposed to be sleeping and due to her new seating position, she's starting to feel the draft on her legs more clearly so, she pulls a bit of the duvet over her limbs to keep them warm which only grants her another grumble from the surgeon.
She takes a very subtle peek at the sleep-deprived doctor from the corner of her eye before her attention drifts back to her page, tensions are pretty high for both of them so his constant attitude is really starting to bring up her guard, even more so when she merely turns her page.
The small noise is apparently enough to push the male over the edge.
"Will you just sit still?!" His bark only earns him a somewhat puzzled glance before her brows slowly knit together, she has made it very apparent on many occasions that she doesn't like being yelled at but right now, Law could really care less.
"Oh, of course. I will just sit still and stare at the pages blankly." And her sarcasm doesn't do much to lighten his mood at all.
"You might as well, you stare at everything else blankly."
Did he just imply that I'm dumb?
She decides she'll ignore that comment, she doesn't really want an argument with him after all.
Her eyes flickering back down to her page as she sighs quietly to herself, she can feel Law staring at her but she can't work out whether it's because he wants to tear into her about even daring to sigh or if he wants to apologize for being such an asshole.
Not that he'd audibly say sorry regardless, even if he did feel guilty.
Her irritation rises when a piece of her hair falls down into her eye, blocking her vision from her story and causing her to pout as her hand reaches up to brush the red lock back, apparently that's blasphemy also though.
"Kyo-ya!"
"What?! What is your problem?!"
"You!"
That admittedly hurt a bit but she's hardly going to cry about it.
"Fine, then I'll read elsewhere." She rises to her feet as her pout deepens and slips into her hoodie, immediately earning herself a sigh from Law.
"Don't be stupid."
Of course, 'stupid' she will be.
Making her way out of the room, she heads straight for the lounge.
Caesar's likely doing experiments so he shouldn't be an issue but she suspects that Monet may be creeping around somewhere although much to her surprise, the lounge is completely empty.
Taking a seat on one of the couches, she then continues to read her book.
Well, that is until an odd laugh reaches her ears anyway, the girl frowning as it draws closer to her.
Can't I just get some peace? I thought this laboratory was supposed to be massive! Why can't he go somewhere else?!
"Shurororo~! Couples quarrel~?"
Her face looks emotionless but on the inside, she's telling this guy to get lost using the most vulgar of languages.
"...I suppose you could say that."
She has to bite her tongue to stop herself from explicitly announcing that Law's being a dick tonight but even if he gets her a little mad sometimes, she can't bring herself to bitch about him, especially not to enemies.
"Oh? And they say romance is dead~! Shurororo~!"
Does he ever stop laughing? I wonder, does he laugh in his sleep? What a horrifying image.
"Was it not his winning personality that you were attracted to~? Shurororo~!"
Was that sarcasm? Coming from this guy? A stone has more charisma than this clown.
"Do you ever sh--"
"Kyo-ya." Despite her little spat with the surgeon, she's somewhat glad he intercepted her before she said anything too rude.
This gas-clown is clearly crazy, he just might have killed her if she actually managed to offend him.
Taking a glance in the tattooed male's direction, she notices that he looks a little troubled, like he almost wants to apologize but she doubts he's going to.
But that's just fine with her, so long as he doesn't start taking his lack of sleep out on her again. She's not a punching bag.
"Oh~? Have you come to make it up to her~? Bring her flowers, perhaps~? Shurororo~!"
The look of pure mortification on Law's face is enough to make the redhead smirk at least, the girl marking her page before she closes her book, making her way over to Law but she stops before she passes him - placing a hand over his chest and shooting him a sweet smile.
"I'm going to bed, care to join me?"
She mainly did this to shut Caesar up, as much as she enjoys seeing Law get...well, what he deserves, she still has respect for the man. Besides, this clown's laugh is starting to get on her nerves.
Although much to her surprise and her amusement, the surgeon gets stumped for words, a very pale blush dusting his cheeks as he mutters something incoherent under his breath.
But with that, she continues on to their shared room. After all, if she called him out on his odd behaviour, Caesar would surely get suspicious about their relationship status.
She can hear the clown expressing his confusion regardless though, it would seem that he isn't quite sure how it could go from a "couples quarrel" to...well, he doesn't even allow his mind to wander that far.
He sure as hell doesn't want to know what goes on with these two behind closed doors, not that anything goes on anyway but the fact that he doesn't think too hard about this is probably a good thing, considering the circumstances.
The second Kyo enters the bedroom however, she feels Law practically on her heels as he slams the door shut, his eyes filling once again with irritation.
"What did I do now?" The girl boredly mutters under her breath, she's very quickly becoming disdainful of this plan of his.
Apart of her wishes he would just get it over and done with so he can stop being so damn cranky all the time but then, she also knows the dangers and is therefore glad that he's taking his time, she doesn't want him to get hurt after all.
"What was that?" The surgeon's question earns him a slightly confused pout, the redhead staring at him as if to silently ask for some elaboration. "With Caesar. And why did you touch me like that?"
"What with Caesar? He came getting in my way so you can't accuse me of jeopardising your plan this time." The raven just seems like he's progressively growing more and more annoyed by the second and Kyo isn't in the mood to condone her actions to him when he's acting such a way.
"And I touched your chest because I wanted to see what would happen." The girl practically lying through her teeth as she takes off her hoodie and throws it over a chair before slipping into the bed, it would seem that the lack of sleep is catching up with her now and she has no interest in staying awake any longer than she has to. "You can stay up and wallow in your anger all you like, I'm going to sleep. Goodnight, Trafalgar."
"You don't get out of this conversation that easily!"
But alas, she does.
She has no response to his outburst, the boy's glare only intensifying before he finally takes a breath, releasing it in the form of a deep sigh.
He is fully aware that the stress of his plan, the lack of sleep and every possible outcome is beginning to take a toll on him, he doesn't fear the thought of dying. In fact, he believes it's highly likely that he will die. Possibly here, possibly in Dressrosa, he isn't sure but he doesn't think he'll see it through to the end and he accepts that.
So long as he severs ties between Kaidou and Doflamingo, it'll all be worth it.
But if anything goes wrong, the smallest thing, then this plan of his could go to hell real fast and his death will be coming a lot sooner than anticipated and worst of all; it'll all be for nothing.
So yes, he's stressed and lacking sleep. And yes, he might be taking it out on the person currently closest to him but he has his reasons and she's aware of that.
He'd wager that's why she hasn't told him to go to hell and left yet.
With a sigh he trails over to the bed also, placing his hand against her back and gently pushing her a little more over to her side of the bed before he lays down on his, Kikoku propped up against the bedside table so it's close-by if he needs it.
He gathers she's definitely asleep since she didn't wince at his touch, she usually hates it when people touch her back but if she's asleep, it's likely she couldn't even feel it.
Of course, he lays awake for a while before falling asleep himself but when he does, it's only for a couple of hours before he's awoken by a weight on his arm.
His free hand already reaching for Kikoku but then he realizes that the redhead had simply just rolled on his limb in her sleep, she's still looking comatose but her grip on his bicep is firm, drawing a sigh from the surgeon's lips as he stares up at the ceiling.
A slight shiver running up his spine when the girl breathes out, the air from her nose brushing his neck.
"K-Kyo-ya! Turn your face the other way!" To his surprise, she hums something incoherent in her sleep before she presses her nose into his shoulder instead, something he's willing to accept since she was clutching onto his arm anyway. At least this way, he can relax a little.
Just a little though, sadly.
