When She Cares.
The girl sits opposite the surgeon in the med bay as he reads a book, a somewhat content expression on his face as he languidly turns the page, his stormy eyes never leaving the text.
She had originally come to speak to him about something that has been plaguing her mind recently but has since found herself losing the ability to open up, a somewhat irritated pout etched into her features as she stares just past the raven's head, seems her brain is torturing her this week.
It sure doesn't help that the Straw Hats are taking forever and a day to finish up their business with Big Mom, she isn't sure what on earth possessed that rubber idiot to pick a fight with two emperors at once but then...she's not too sure why she's even surprised by it either.
Of course, she doesn't get to dwell on those thoughts for long since more notions wash over her brain, only causing her pout to deepen.
I really wish I could just stop thinking for at least 5 minutes...
"What are you thinking about, Kyo-ya?"
"Huh?" The first thing she notices when her stare flickers back to Law's face is how his brows are slightly furrowed now, his orbs darting up from his book and meeting her gaze.
He's far more observant than I ever give him credit for...
With a deep and slightly shaky breath, the redhead tilts her chin up a little in attempts to appear more confident, although by now she's fully aware that Law can see right through her - these false postures are more out of habit these days rather than any real belief that she's fooling him.
Admittedly, she dreads even bringing this topic up in case it ends badly for her.
In attempts to keep Law's guard down though, she gives him a faint smile while resting her hand over the tattoo decorating his forearm, she assumes combing through this slowly may be the best course of action.
"You're alright, aren't you?" It wasn't the question that she had planned to ask him but she's honestly finding it hard to speak her mind right now, something that is very rare for her. Usually, if she has something to say, she'll just go ahead and say it. "I just...thought you looked troubled today, is all."
Oh, good. Blame your sour face on him, that's delightful.
She doesn't miss how Law's expression slowly morphs into more of a frown as he closes his book, setting it down on the exam bed beside him, his eyes never leaving hers. "I thought you didn't like liars."
"I also don't like being analysed." Her quiet reply only causes the surgeon to smirk, successfully drawing a sigh from her lips, she's already tired and she hasn't even begun yet. Just say it. "This battle with Kaido..."
That seems to pique the raven's interest, his cheeky smile fading immediately at the mere mention of the name and an unreadable expression taking over instead as he stares at the girl, seemingly still trying to read her face and body language. "You're worried?"
Seems he reads her well.
"N--perhaps. Curious, I suppose."
Who are you kidding? You're petrified and he knows it!
"What about?"
She can't help but shoot the man an ironic glance at that question, does he really think that she could only have one worry right now?
"A few things, actually." She murmurs surprisingly calmly, she's honestly trying her best to sound perfectly clear but most of all, brave for him. "I have pondered many thoughts and most of them I won't even touch upon but I have to ask...is this entire battle really about Kaido or are you just trying to repay Luffy for taking down Doflamingo? Do you even expect to survive this?"
She notices the slight flicker of shock in his eyes before he forces it back, his brows knitting together but more in thought rather than anger as he lowly grumbles to himself.
"What kind of question--"
"A very reasonable one given your track record." Her blunt response only has Law's expression growing more agitated, not that she's too surprised by this, she knew it won't be an easy conversation from the very start and she sure doesn't help herself with how coldly she words some things. "I trust you to be honest with me, Trafalgar. Even if the truth is unpleasant, you don't seem like the type to lie so tell me...do you even plan on making it out of this alive? Do you even want to?"
Perhaps I should've just let it go...
"What do you think, Kyo-ya?"
"I think you're putting it all in the hands of fate and that worries me."
Still not too late to let it go...
"Worries you?" Now Law's smirk is making a reappearance on his face as he leans forward in his chair, his free hand now resting on top of hers and his aura growing somewhat smug. "And I thought you were a believer of fate."
His cheeky comment does little to amuse her by this point though, her pout forming into more of a glare as she tries to retract her hand but this only leads to Law taking a firm but somehow gentle grip on her limb, keeping her steadily in place.
The warmth of his touch sure as hell doesn't make it any easier to stay objective.
"Yes, I believe in fate...I also believe you shouldn't tempt it." Her throat involuntarily quivers a little at her own sentence, causing her to pause very briefly to gain her composure before jumping straight to the point before she loses it entirely. "I don't want to get caught up in caring about you if you're just gonna be reckless with your life."
Many memories of Mihawk flash in her mind all at once with these words, how he often reminded her that somebody may surpass him one day and how it might even cost him his life, his cold warnings still ring in her ears.
"You shouldn't get too attached."
She had to accept it over time, that she may lose the only fatherly figure she has ever known one day but she certainly isn't ready to accept that she might just lose Law too, even the mere thought of it hurts like slow torture.
What she doesn't realize is just how transparent she really is...well, to Law anyway.
The raven quietly observing her absent eyes before lazily tugging her forward, out of her own seat and into his lap instead, his arms wrapped tightly around her waist as he slyly smiles against her cheek, his breath fanning her skin softly.
"Let me make this very clear, Kyo-ya..." His voice is somehow both cold and soft at the same time, causing a shiver to rack the redhead's spine as her thoughts all come to a screeching halt, she barely begins to mutter something incoherent but is instantly silenced when he resumes his sentence. "I'm not planning on going anywhere yet. I'll choose when I die, nobody else. Understood?"
No, not understood!
"How can you say--Trafalgar!" She's immediately distracted from her concerns when the smug pirate begins to nibble on her neck, immediately causing goosebumps to spread across her arms, her voice instantly getting stuck in her throat and only making her huff to herself before she melts into the sensation entirely. "Traf--! Law, th-this...is cheating...!"
All she gains in response to that is a muffled hum, a barely believable sigh escaping her lips as she finally relaxes fully in the surgeon's arms, her hands grasping onto the kimono he's wearing while in Wano as he teases her skin.
...Damn this man.
