Indigo Disc Review

As of now, I've played through the main portion of the Indigo Disc DLC and all I have left is the optional/bonus content of completing the Blueberry Pokedex/Capturing the new Paradox forms and Legendaries. Therefore, here is an overal review of what the DLC entailed and my honest opinions on it.

The Indigo Disc DLC picks up in game about a month or two after the Teal Mask DLC as the player is invited to become an exchange student and attend the Unova region's Blueberry Academy. Upon arrival, the player is very soon notified that Kieran had 'changed' as a person and everyone is worried about him thus leading to Drayton, one of the Elite students at Blueberry, enlisting the player on a mission to conquer the Blueberry League and dethrone Kieran as Champion in hopes he reverts back to his old self.

When Kieran is defeated and DOESN'T revert back to normal, Ms. Briar of Blueberry Academy Is granted permission from Chairwoman Geeta to explore Area Zero. Ms. Briar, Carmine, Kieran and the Player explore the Area Zero lab and the Area Zero depths discovering a new Tera type called Stellar allowing Pokemon to become ALL types at once. They soon discover the hidden treasure of Area Zero and the reasoning why Terastalization is possible in a small turtle Pokemon named Terapagos. Kieran captures this Pokemon before quickly losing control of the Legendary Pokemon as it terastalizes and goes Berserk prompting everyone to team together and tame Terapagos once more. The player captures the newly released Terapagos and Kieran reverts back to his normal self.

100% The Indigo Disc DLC is miles better than the Teal Mask and definitely makes the DLC worth paying for/playing. Yes, I had a VERY bad opinion about the Teal Mask DLC as it was rushed and felt very 'hallow'. You can tell no love was put into the Teal Mask but in reality all of the time and effort went into the Indigo Disc instead. Doesn't make it right, not in the slightest, but my experience in the Indigo Disc is definitely one of my highlights playing Scarlet & Violet.

One of the highlights in the Indigo Disc is that it's about triple the size of the Teal Mask DLC. The map/play area of the Indigo Disc is as large if not larger than Paldea/The Main game and it took me about 12 hours to finish the main story of the DLC when the Teal Mask took me about 2 hours NOT including Pokedex completion. The Teal Mask Pokedex was 200 Pokemon large with majority of the Pokemon being already available in the main game which means about 50-75 Pokemon had been reintroduced/new to Scarlet & Violet. The Indigo Disc Pokedex is 274 Pokemon large with few to no returning Pokemon from the main game, and yes I counted how many new/reintroduced Pokemon there is and I counted 181 new AND reintroduced Pokemon exclusive to the Indigo Disc. Yeah, the Indigo Disc is Gargantuan!!!

Majority of the reintroduced Pokemon in the DLC are Alolan Pokemon and Alolan Regional variants such as Grimer, Exeggutor & Sandshrew as well as Unovan Pokemon like Zebstrika, Reuniclus and Galvantula. The DLC did a good job of bringing back Pokemon from every region but yes, they were very Alola and Unova heavy which makes perfect sense since the DLC takes place in Unova.

Not including play Area and the Pokedex, the Indigo Disc had much more content in comparison to the Teal Mask. In the Teal Mask, you dealt with the main story and that was it. In the Indigo Disc, you're tasked with exploring the Terarium head to toe, challenging a new Elite 4 with battle requirements AND trials, a new BP system rewards the player for playing by gradually unlocking new content such as access to starter Pokemon and Legendaries, you can rematch against Paldean Gym Leaders, Elite 4 and old acquaintances as well as trade Pokemon with them! The new DLC further added more content to the main game and the Teal Mask with additional story and game mechanics. This DLC just keeps giving and giving! I too still have yet to truly unlock it all despite having about 16 hours of more pumped into the DLC as of now.

One thing I ESPECIALLY loved about the DLC is that the Pokemon company has listened to fan feedback and gave us new hairstyles and clothing options. Instead of being stuck with strictly seasonal uniforms, the player can now wear uniforms for practically any occasion such as a track suit or lounge wear, be it still In school colors, but it's better than the four options we had in the main game. Furthermore, as long as you finish up the Team Star quest in the Indigo Disc DLC, which is really just the player catching up with the former Team Star leaders, you're granted access to the Team Star uniforms and gear of which I'm personally not into BUT was a cool addition nonetheless.

Enough with the Pros, we gotta talk about some of the downsides. Pokemon still hasn't fixed or enhanced any of the performance issues regarding the game that's been there since day one. The game has an especially hard time running whenever the player is on or near bodies of water and whenever there's a large cluster of Pokemon. The perform issues regarding water unfortunately drives me to avoid the Coastal Biome of the Indigo Disc and I shouldn't feel this way. Strangely enough, the Indigo Disc runs as well as the main game despite Water issues while the Teal Mask for some reason has performance issues galore. Like I will do whatever I can to avoid visiting Kitakami due to such. It's so blatantly obvious that the Teal Mask was an afterthought and all the budget went towards the Indigo Disc.

My favorite Pokemon introduced in the DLC is 100% Hydrapple. Hydrapple is the evolution of the newly introduced Dipplin of whom I went insanely out of my way to shiny hunt cause it just looks that good. I really like Hydrapple because it's honestly a monster in and out of combat and that it's got a cool Shiny. It was on my team the entire DLC and I think I'll make it part of my permanent team.

And, in case you were curious, here's the team I ended the DLC with. Every Pokemon on the team are Pokemon I used in past games and KNEW I loved. Jolteon, Metagross and Flygon were on my Pokemon Colosseum team and I was HEAVILY tempted to recreate said team for the DLC as all i needed was Arcanine, Gardevoir & Aggron but ultimately decided against it as Aggron isn't In Scarlet and Violet at all...

Long story short, The Indigo Disc is 100% worth it and I highly recommend you play or purchase it if you haven't already. Keep in mind I haven't done everything in the DLC quite yet, just the main story, so I can guarantee I haven't experienced the new Paradox forms or captured the starters yet.

Did you play through the DLCs yet? What's your experience?
