Scarlet Violet Epilogue & Game Review
As of January 11th 2024, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are now officially complete as the Epilogue for the games released.
The Epilogue follows the Player of whom was invited back into the land of Kitakami by Kieran. Kieran also invites the players friends: Arven, Penny & Nemona. Together, they travel to Kitakami where upon arrival everyone in Kitakami is acting suspicious. They're dancing weirdly, are 'trigger happy' and chant 'mochi'. Eventually the mastermind of this weird apocalypse shows itself as the Mythical Pokemon, Pecharunt who possesses the ability to control and manipulate Pokemon. Once Kieran and the Player defeat everyone that Pecharunt is puppeteering, Pecharunt finally faces the player head on where it is defeated and captured. This triggers the true ending where Kieran is accepted into the player's friend group and they all return to Paldea.
Now, I'll go deeper into specifics and Easter eggs in the DLC/Epilogue.
1. Arven, Penny & Nemona Return!

The game basically addressed how the developers forgotten/wrote out the main Companions from the main game of Scarlet & Violet by bringing Arven, Penny & Nemona back for one last adventure where they accompany the player to Kitakami under Kieran's request as Kieran wants to make ammends and befriend the player after his little stunt at Blueberry Academy. Admittedly, the player's friends had insanely mixed opinions on Kieran. Nemona was welcoming of Kieran and wanted to battle him, no surprise there. Penny honestly didn't care for Kieran and kept fighting with Arven as she's known to do. Lastly Arven WASNT welcoming of Kieran and acted jealous towards him insinuating that Kieran is the reason the player hasn't spent time with their Paldea friend group in a long while.
2. Pecharunt's Role in the DLC

In the epilogue, the game decided to focus in on a new Mythical Pokemon named Pecharunt. Pecharunt IS the mastermind of the Teal Mask DLC despite not being the focus of said DLC. Pecharunt, known as the puppeteer Pokemon, manipulates people and Pokemon most notably the Loyal Three: Okidogi, Munkidori & Fezandipidi. Pecharunt can manipulate People and Pokemon through its poison that it will infect people through mochi/food that people digest. Blinded by power, Pecharunt manipulated the Loyal Three into stealing the masks of Ogerpon and ultimately murdered Ogerpon's original owner. Ogerpon succeeded in defeating Pecharunt where Pecharunt has been in hibernation until the events of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
3. Penny's Father is Revealed

In a Blink and you'll miss it moment in the Epilogue, Penny recieves a phone call from her father where he's being a protective yet smoothering father and just wanting to make sure she's safe while in Kitakami. This dialog exchange confirms that Penny's father is a WELL KNOWN resident of the Galar region: Former Champion Steel Peony. Before the DLC released, I made a VERY far reaching theory about whom Penny's father might be suggesting it'd be Peony and let me tell you, I DID NOT expect that theory to be true. I sat there for like ten minutes in shock.
4. Kieran is your Soulmate

After the Epilogue, the player can now invite Kieran to the League Room in BB Academy as a coach where you can talk, battle and trade Pokemon with him. Kieran will offer you an Applin to trade. Those who have played Sword and Shield know that giving an Applin to someone is a romantic gesture. Sort of like a Paopu Fruit from Kingdom Hearts, giving someone an Applin entertwines the destiny of the giver and reciever. While it was never explicitly stated that Kieran's Applin is a romantic or friendly gesture, nobody can deny that Kieran's relationship with the player feels different in comparison to literally all Pokemon characters before him. His relationship with the player always felt like more than friends or siblings and that was further reinforced come the epilogue. Like they were always meant to meet and befriend one another. I firmly feel they're soul mates!
5. Pecharunt's Foreshadowing

Besides how Pecharunt was around since minute one in the Teal Mask DLC through the 'doll' that sat on the market shelves is Mossui Town, before the official unveiling of Pecharunt the player and Kieran battles against most of the town who are being Manipulated by Pecharunt. Some of the Pokemon the townsfolk used includes Victreebel, Arbok, Salazzle, Golurk and Chandelure. What do all of these Pokemon have in common? Each Pokemon the townsfolk used in battle were one of two types: Poison or Ghost type. Poison/Ghost is Pecharunt's typing meaning the battles leading up to Pecharunt foreshadowed its typing. I noticed this theming really quickly BUT it's still clever nonetheless.
So, Scarlet & Violet are now complete. I'm not happy to say the least as there's still so many questions left unanswered... Here's some of my questions and observations that have yet to be addressed.
1. What's up with Geeta?
Ever since the games came out everyone's talked about Chairwoman Geeta and how fishy she acts. She always talked and treated the gymleaders like crap and always acted as if something was 'off' about her. Many suggested Geeta was likely a villain hiding in plain sight and she was abusing the Power of Terapagos or something along that caliber considering she's so protective over Area Zero AND her Ace Pokemon, Glimmora, is a Pokemon exclusive to Area Zero. Geeta feels very incomplete as a character.
2. What do these Symbols mean?

The symbols found in both Area Zero and on the cover of the videogame were NEVER addressed in this game. We don't know what they mean or why they exist.
3. Missing Pokemon
There were numerous Pokemon seen in the Indigo Disc and Teal Mask DLC trailers that aren't actually in the game... The two biggest Pokemon Missing from the trailers were Omastar and Kabutops along with the promise that Fossil Pokemon were making a come back. In reality, only Cranidos and Shieldon came back. Pokemon, why were these Pokemon shown in the trailers if they aren't in the game? To be honest, I don't exactly care that they're missing but I am a little upset that Pokemon promised Fossils and didn't deliver because I LOVE some of the Fossil-Mon.
4. What happened to Team Star?
Yes, the DLC gave us closure on the leaders of Team Star, but not Team Star in general. The members of Team Star are still punks who skip school. In fact, if you go to any Team Star Base, nothing has changed. What was the point of Mr. Clavell allowing Team Star to exist? He said they could exist as a battling club BUT the Team can no longer partake in illegal activity AND the member have to return to school. Nothing has changed. Yeah the leaders returned to school, but everyone else in the team remain as rebellious borderline criminals.
5. Terapagos
The game told us NOTHING about Terapagos outside of saying 'oh Terapagos is responsible for the Terastal phenomenon' okay and? Why is Terapagos capable of this? Why is Terapagos locked away in the depths of Area Zero? What made it go into hibernation? Why does it change forms? Pokemon introduced Terapagos BUT told us nothing about it. I'm assuming they're not telling us anything because the anime is focusing on Terapagos but still... The Indigo Disc DLC in regards to story pissed me off.
In the end, Scarlet and Violet is an okay game. It's not the best game Pokemon has put out but it's definitely not the worst. The game definitely has its issues but it brought new stuff to the table that I think will translate well to future games.
Is there any questions or observation you have about the game that's unanswered? Did you enjoy the epilogue? Do you like Scarlet and Violet more or less now that it's complete?
