CHAPTER 58: PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTION INDICATED BY THE COMPASS NEEDLE
Judy took Sabrina's hand and ran east, calling Syrena's name until her throat was hoarse, but all they got in return was a quiet space with snowflakes that kept falling without forests and sometimes a cold wind blowing down her spine. .
"SYRENA! Where are you? SYRENA!"
Sabrina called out loudly. She is so worried! She don't know where is her little sister? Is she safe or not? Running all this while in the cold snow made her legs tired, she collapsed on the white snow, looking around.
All around her and Judy now saw only snow and snow. The snow was falling heavily, she didn't want to remember that day, when a beam of light shone on her, causing her extreme pain, her whole body was limp and she passed out on the cold snow. That day she lay motionless in the snow, so covered with snow.
Now when she thought of her sister, she couldn't help but worry. Could it be that she was buried in the snow like her sister that day? Oh my God! If that's the case, it's dangerous, she was eighteen and couldn't stand the cold then, what about a two-year-old girl? How could she stand it?
Then, as if energized by some invisible force, she got up and ran quickly to Judy. Judy was now with her back to her, she was shouting Syrena's name but the result was the same as hers, only the horrible howling wind answered.
"It's not over. I don't know where she is."
The snow is starting to get stronger now, Judy said. Maybe a blizzard is coming? Then, still standing on the snow, Judy took out a small silver compass from under her cloak, which she held in her palm, mumbling something she couldn't hear.
Moments later, the compass needle began to rotate, slow at first but then started to speed up and stop. Judy stared at the compass, frowning. She was so curious that she asked:
"What's wrong? Which direction does the compass point her?"
"Hmm...to the West but..."
Judy mumbled, as if she were speaking to herself rather than to her.
West? So are we on the right track?
She was so impatient that she went to her and looked at the compass. The compass needle is pointing straight ahead, so why is she frowning? Or is she afraid to walk in the growing snow?
Or is there another reason?
Then Judy put the compass inside her cloak, turned to her and said:
"Let's go, keep looking."
"Is the compass pointing in the wrong direction?"
She asked. Judy didn't answer, she looked at Judy hoping she would give her the answer she was waiting for. But nothing happened, between the two of them there was only a silence with the howling wind being the only sound.
Some instinct told her to trust the compass, the direction is right, the compass is never wrong. At first, she also hesitated and thought a lot, afraid that what if the compass was really broken and she blindly followed it, she would put herself in danger again. But she not sure if anyone came to save her like last time.
[...]
But that premonition was so strong, she couldn't resist its charm. The will urges her to shake off her doubts and follow the direction the compass pointed, and she will surely find her sister. She stood still in the snow, agonizing between her two decisions to go and stay.
Then she made her decision. For her sister, she was willing to do anything, she quickly ran forward, in the direction the compass needle pointed.
"SABRINA!"
Judy screamed but she ran away, disappearing under the white snow.
[...]
Sabrina continued to run, trusting the compass completely, her hunch. Just aim forward and run, then she finally stood in the middle of a dark place covered with snow, the cold seemed to cut her flesh but she didn't care. As she pondered which way to go next, a familiar sound made her look up, her face revealing an expression of unbelievable surprise.
She slowly moved forward, out of that cold murky place, her steps were slow, she was half worried and half afraid not knowing what was waiting for her next.
