Chapter 8

Jessica's POV

I heard the door open and saw Tiffany walk in. I don't know why, but I had sort of hoped that it would be Yuri coming in instead, to tell me that there's nothing going on between her and SooYoung. To tell me that they didn't just kiss --again. To tell me that they were just practicing for one of her drama scenes. Any explanation would suffice. Although I was disappointed, it was probably better this way because I had some questions that I wanted to ask Tiffany.

"Jess, don't get chocolate all over my pillows!" Tiffany shrieked as she saw me lying down on my stomach.

I sat up and grabbed a pink tissue from the bedside table to wipe my mouth. All that chocolate started to make my head spin.

"You can't sl--"

"Tiff, how do you know if you like somebody?" I asked, cutting her off from whatever it was that she wanted to lecture me about.

"Huh?" Tiffany gave me a puzzled look.

"When your attention is always drawn to this one person no matter where they are in the room, what does that mean?" I continued.

Tiffany sat down cross-legged beside me on the bed. "Well..." she started. She grabbed one of her dolls on the bed and cradled it between her legs, resting her chin on top of it. "Do you act differently when you're around this person?"

"Maybe. I don't know." I really didn't know. I was so used to people calling me cold and stand-offish, and giving me nicknames like Ice Princess that I really don't know what "differently" would be in the eyes of others.

"Do you get jealous whenever you see this person around another girl?" she continued with her questions. I thought about it for a minute before finally replying, "I don't know. This person is always surrounded by girls."

"Ok, then do you get the butterflies whenever this person smiles at you?" Tiffany tried again.

"No. I just smile back."

"How about whenever the two of you make physical contact? How do you feel then? Is your heart racing? Do you blush? Any butterflies then?"

"Mmmmm... I become extremely conscious of the touches and I think my heart beats faster," I told her.

"Omg, omg, omg!!! You're in love! If it was anybody else that answered those questions like the way you did just now, I would've said no. Definitely no. But you're Jessica!" Tiffany shrieked excitedly at me. "Girl, you've fallen head over heels for this person and you don't even know it. So tell me, who is this lucky man?"

I suddenly felt shy in front of Tiffany after hearing her tell me that I'm madly in love with somebody. Shying away from her sparkling eyes, I looked down at her pink bed sheets and started to play with the corner of her matching pink blanket. I couldn't help but smile at the thought of liking this person.

"Let me guess, is it one of the Suju boys? We've always been really close to them. It's Siwon oppa isn't it? He always brings us flowers whenever he comes over for dinner."

"Hah! No. It's not any of them. I only started to get close to this person recently," I hinted.

"Not the Suju boys... and you just got close to this person. Give me another hint! How often are you with this person?" Tiffany demanded.

"Well, we only got to really know each other during these past couple of days." As I said that, I picked up a book that was sitting on her bedside table. Twilight. Like as if she'll ever finish this book.

The sudden snap of her fingers drew my attention back to her. "I know! OMG! I KNOW!" she screamed excitedly while bouncing up and down on the bed. "It's that cute Daniel Henney look-a-like that works at the bookstore!" She shoved my shoulders lightly before teasing me, "No wonder you've been going there so often looking for this 'book' that you never come back with."

So wrong. I gave her a dumbfounded look and although I know that I can share almost anything with Tiffany, I wasn't confident enough to tell her who this person really is. Since she seemed so sure of her guess, I confirmed it by just nodding my head.

"Does he like you too?" she continued.

"I'm not too sure. I don't think so." Sigh, if only it was that easy to tell. "Well, how do you know if somebody likes you anyway?" I asked.

"Well, you could always ask?" Tiffany advised. Unlike Tiffany, I'm less expressive about my emotions and not as confrontational as her. So there was no way I'm asking.

"No way! I'm a girl..."

She snapped her fingers together again as if she had a brilliant idea. "I know! You could find out how this person acts around you. Basically, what I said before about the whole blushing thing, butterflies, acting unnatural, jealous, etc. You know, work your charm, girl!"

Unsure of what my charms are, I let out a worried sigh and told her, "Tiff, I don't know. Maybe I should just wait and see what happens over the next couple of months." Even though it kills me to see this person being so personal with other people.

"Jess! You're going to wait for this person? That is so 16th century! Look, this is what you're going to do. First, find out what his type is. Then, I would question him about all his female friends. Seriously, unless he's gay, it makes no sense why he's always around girls." Oh Tiff, if only you knew...

"Next, find out what he thinks about you. Then you could drive him wild with that sexy body of yours until he finally asks you out on a date!" Tiffany was too absorbed in her own scheming to realize that I was already hiding under her covers, with my flushed pink face blending right in. I thought about her idea, but I don't think I could ever bring myself to be that open with this person. Not yet, at least. Like I said, we only started to get to know each other recently so it might be a bit awkward to suddenly talk about 'types'.

Tiffany slapped the covers that were hiding me and exclaimed, "Yah! Were you even listening?"

I tried to kick her off the bed from under the Blanket and out the room. "Yes, I did. I need to rest a bit before confessing. Go hang out with Taeyeon."

"You're not going to find out are you? Fine, I'll just tell him myself," the mushroom threatened.

I bolted upright from my sleeping position and held her by the arms to make sure she wasn't going to run off to the bookstore because she can be pretty impulsive at times. "No, don't!"

"Then I'm giving you 2 choices: one, you either find out yourself, or two, I'll confess on your behalf."

Even though she has the wrong person in mind, I didn't want her to complicate things by misleading the young owner of the bookstore. I had no choice but to agree to her first option. "Fine, I'll do it. Now can you leave me to My sleep?"

Satisfied that she won the battle, Tiffany got up from the bed and gave me her signature smile. "Yes, and remember this deal otherwise ... You know what's going to happen. Anyways, you can rest in my room for now, but you can't sleep here tonight. Nor can you sleep in Yoona's room because I heard that they'll be up all night practicing lines for her drama. Your heater isn't going to be fixed until the end of this week. So that leaves Yuri's room." Before I had the chance to object, Tiffany had already disappeared out the door. If this was the 16th century, then I think I just made a deal with the devil, aka Hwang Mi Young, for a shot at love. I threw the covers back over my head. Aish, I'm so screwed tonight. Yuri's going to be sleeping next to a weirdo with erratic heartbeats. And did I mention that I'll probably be growing a swarm of butterflies tonight?
