Luna & Diana
A long time ago, when Diana was out hunting with her huntresses she accidentally tripped over a boulder. She cursed and looked at the boulder. The boulder shined and shimmered like the stars in the sky.
"This boulder is not like any boulder I have seen before," Diana exclaimed in amazement as she observed the boulder.
"It is so pretty..." A huntress said.
"Yes, it is..." She muttered not really listening to what the other huntress said but more observant on the boulder. "This boulder should be known like Sol but better, shining with the stars but more known. Luna." Her real intention was to be better than her twin brother, Apollo, with his "love", Sol, who he brings up every single day on his chariot. Diana loathed Apollo and Sol, the perfect pair, whenever they had a family meet up at Mount Olympus all Apollo would talk about is Sol this, Sol that. It peeved Diana so much. But when Diana found this boulder she knew it was the one. Luna.
A moment later Diana got up. She turned to her huntresses and picked up her bow which was on the ground.
"We are changing courses. We are going to go to Mount Olympus." Diana told her huntresses.
"Why my lady? All because of that big boulder?" asked one of the huntresses.
"Yes. Now my huntresses can you all pick up this boulder and bring it to the cart?" She asked the huntresses. The huntresses nodded and 10 of them picked it up and brought it to the cart.
After a while of traveling, they got to Mount Olympus. The huntresses stopped in front of the mountain as Diana kept on going up with Luna. She got to the top and a bowed to Jupiter.
"Father Jupiter I have a request," Diana told Jupiter. "I found this boulder and I wanted to put into the sky with Sol." Jupiter shook his head.
"No Diana. I will not allow for you to do that." Jupiter said sternly. Diana started to say something. "No Diana. No saying anything else."
But Diana wasn't ok with that so during the night when Jupiter wasn't looking, Diana put Luna into the sky.
The next morning, when Jupiter looked up into the sky he sent a lightning bolt into the sky, angry that Diana disobeyed him. He went to where Diana and her huntresses were staying and stormed in.
"Diana you disobeyed me." He said. "I will not take Luna out of the sky but I will only let it show it's true beauty about every 29 days."
And that is the story of the moon and why it has phases.
