Jigen X in the dark/oblivious reader

________________________________________________________________________________

"Jigen, this is the fourth time this week you've gone up and disappeared!"

Lupin lounged about on the hideout's regal couch, his legs swinging over one of the velvety arm rests, a cigarette curled in his lips.

"Why is it such a big deal?" Jigen exasperated in a bitter tone, standing at the door, a hand to the knob. "It's personal stuff okay, Lupin?"

Lupin threw himself up from the couch, the cigarette bouncing in his mouth, as he looked slightly peeved. Goemon sat crossed-legged in on the floor, raising a sharp eyebrow at Lupin as he watched his friend storm over to a suddenly surprised Jigen. "Well you can't leave today. We're planning for that big heist, remember?!"

"Lupin, you're genius enough to figure it out on your own, so don't go crying about it to me"

Jigen reached for the doorknob and stepped through the now open door. "Now you're leaving again!?" Lupin huffed, as Jigen sighed, swiveling around to face Lupin. "I have some matters to attend to, Lupin"  Jigen growled, taking a step back, now on the other side of the door. Goemon rose from his spot on the floor, crossing the room to place a stern hand on his shoulder. "Lupin, I'm sure it's something we can trust Jigen on. He's our partner, we need to at least trust each other to work together" Goemon lectured Lupin in a dry familiar tone.

"I would be fine with it if it wasn't happening so much!" Lupin protested, taking Goemon's hand and shooing it off of his shoulder. Goemon shrugged his shoulders, and returned to his spot on the floor, now a spectator in this little argument. "I'll make it quick Lupin," Jigen assured. "I'm just gonna go grab something and I'll be back to plan out the heist."

"Why can't you just tell me what you're up to?" Lupin complained, slipping his cigarette from his mouth, as smoke curled out from his nose and lips. "We're buddies, aren't we?!"

"Can it Lupin. Just give me an hour and I'll be back to plan out your little heist"

With no other words to share, Jigen closed the door behind him in a swift motion. Lupin stood there, arms crossed, cigarette clenched in his mouth once again. "God he seemed a bit jumpy" Lupin sighed, swiveling around on his heels and shuffling back to the couch, resting his butt on the arm rest.

"We can trust him, Lupin" Goemon mumbled. "I'm sure it's nothing."

Shifting in your chair a bit, you glanced down at your watch with laser-like vision. He was rather late, and it bothered you quite a bit. He seemed like the kind of guy to be occasionally late, but not this late.

You wondered if you looked stupid, sitting by yourself out on the balcony of the fancy restaurant he invited on picking. The wind tickled your exposed thigh, your creme and blue striped dress floating over your legs. You spent the entire morning shampooing your hair over and over again, running it through a comb at least a dozen times, before using what felt like gallons of hairspray to keep it in place.

Things had to be precise on this date, and it was already off to a strange start.

"Excuse me ma'am?" a sudden voice asked from behind you. You swerve around to see a waiter, notepad and pen in hand. "Are you ready to order, or are you still waiting on someone?"

"Waiting" you said blandly, reaching for your glass of ice water and taking a swift sip. The waiter gave you only a simple nod and went off to another table. You rest a hand on her chin, sighing as you watched clouds move lazily through the bright blue heavenly sky. In your mind, you were going through scenarios, ways to chew him out for being so late and making you wait. Just as you had the perfect plan, you heard a low gentle chuckle.

"Is this seat taken?"

Heart fluttering, you stood up, his presence looming over you. "You're late" he grumbled, ready to lecture him for it. He suddenly pulled something from behind his back, your eyes widening. A palette of colors gazed up at you, as the smell of flowers tickled your nose. He held the bouquet of flowers shyly, yet determined to make you swoon. Suddenly, you felt yourself simper under his gaze, and you completely forgot about lecturing him for his tardiness.

"Oh Jigen!" you laughed, taking the flowers from his grasp and holding them close to your chest. "Was this why you were so late?"

"Yeah, I had to find the best ones for you," he said, taking a seat across from yours. "And...I had a bit of an argument with my pals...sorry I'm so damned late, /yn/".

You were simply happy to have him in your presence, so you shook your head. "I'm just glad you're finally here. I felt awkward sitting all by my lonesome without my Jigen."

As you take your seat, putting your flowers aside, he pops a cigarette from his pocket and slips it in his lips. "We agreed no smoking during our dates" you pestered him, reaching across the table and plucked it from his mouth. He bit his lip and sighed, letting you toss the cigarette onto the floor, stamping it out.

He leaned back, the light catching onto his coal black locks of hair, slightly greasy under the sunlight. His hat sat humbly atop his head, slightly covering his eyes. You longed to see his face, so you stood up and crossed the table to his side. Before he could ask what you were doing, you slipped the hat off of his head and smashed your lips atop his. He was muffled under your kiss, but drew a hand up to your cheek, nibbling a bit on your bottom lip.

You had to force yourself away from him as you plopped the hat onto your head. With puppy dog brown eyes, he looks up at you and grins. "Suits you, /yn/"

You did a little curtsy, as you took your seat, Jigen eyeing your exposed thigh carefully. "Don't you look nice," he mused, resting his hands on his chin, watching you hungrily. "Thank you," you playfully responded, posing in your chair for a moment. "It makes you look stunning, plus I can see all the right places"

He eyes your body, gazing down at your thighs to your breasts, whistling. "Maybe we'll get to do some bedroom jamboree"

"Nice try, Daisuke Jigen"

The date proceeds and the waiter comes back around and you order. You order something Jigen considered "cutesy", and he ordered a big juicy steak. As you wait for your meals, you decide to strike up conversation.

"How was work today?" you asked ever so casually. Jigen shifted in his chair a bit and cleared his throat. "Work was long, as usual"

You smiled. "Oh man, I can't believe I'm dating neural engineer!"

Jigen avoided eye contact and he coughed into his fist "Heh yeah, I mean it's cool I guess". You chuckle as he adjusts his posture and rests a hand on his chin, admiring you. "What about you, princess? How was the night shift?"

You dreaded work sometimes. You worked as a night guard at the Ferndale History Museum. Late nights and cups of coffee muddled your thoughts as you grumbled a bland, "Fine I guess". Your night shifts would be more frequent, as a rare traveling exhibit previewed in that very museum. The exhibit displayed a rare and gorgeous ruby called the "The Beating Heart", the size of a baseball that shined brighter than the stars above. And as fate could be played out, it would be a jewel of interest.

Your boss mentioned Lupin The Third only once. But you knew of that name vaguely. From what you were aware, he was a master thief with an endless hunger for shiny and expensive things. So 5 cups of coffee, sudoko puzzles, and glazed donuts would soon once again be in your boring future.

The waiter swept by your table, your favorite meal and Jigen's humungous steak placed in all its tasty glory at your table. Jigen grinned and dug into his steak like a ravenous predator.

You break a piece of food off with your fork and pop it into your mouth as you share a blissful silence to enjoy your meal.

"Thank you for taking work off today for lunch" you smiled as Jigen looked up from his steak. His smile spoke a thousand words.

"Anything for you princess"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jigen slipped his hands into his pockets as he climbed the rickety stairs of the complex apartments. As he reached the top, he swiveled on his heels and stood at apartment number 304 and stiffly knocked. There was a clamber and litany of curses from behind the door, until Lupin finally opened the door. A beer angrily clutched in his hand, he swung the door fully open and glared at Jigen. He sported his striped blue and white boxers, his white tank top clinging to his skinny body.

"You said it would only take an hour Jigen! What the hell?!" Lupin snapped, taking a moment to swig at his beer aggressively.

"Well I got caught up in traffic" Jigen murmured, pushing past Lupin, entering the hideout. "You didn't take the fiat" Lupin growled, catching onto his lie.

"Well it's my personal business, so stay out of it" Jigen sighed, flopping down onto the velvety couch Lupin previously lounged on.

"It's my business to know why you keep up and vanishing when we need you most" Lupin grumbled, slamming the door behind him and trudging to the couch, plopping down next to Jigen.

"Luckily for you I'm feeling patient, so listen up!" He hops up from the couch and scurries off to another room, coming back with an irritated Goemon, and a handful of blue prints. "Now listen up!" he chanted, laying the blueprints down on the messy coffee table, Goemon taking a seat next to an irritated Jigen.

"My next target issss....drumroll Goemon". Goemon frowned and did a drumroll on his legs as Lupin slowly opened up the blue print. "The Beating Heart!"

The blueprint read "Ferndale Museum Layout", and Jigen's heart dropped. He knew instantly he was doomed. He would never want to jeopardize your job, or worst case scenario, your relationship. It had only been two months since you had started dating, but you felt like it was something special. The way you spoke so serenely, and oh how beautiful you looked in the afternoon sun. His heart couldn't take your intense beauty and loving heart.

He kept his mouth shut as Lupin went on. "Alright here's my plan. Midnight, we take the back-way and disguise ourselves as delivery men. Once we reach the back, we scale the building, and Goemon cuts out a hole for us in the skylight here". he points at the location atop the roof on the blueprints, as Goemon leans in semi-interested.

"Next we toss in these little fellas" he holds up a round silver ball, black dots covering its surface. "Nice anal beads" Jigen scoffed. Lupin stuck out his tongue and continued, trying to not sound bothered. "These are sleeping gas filters, made by yours truly" he flashed an infamous grin before going on. "We knock out any guards in the area, and I go in on a line and harness, old fashioned style!"

He hoped to god you wouldn't be tasked with guarding the "Beating Heart", because more than anything, this job would be impossible.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you had predicted, the night was just as boring as every other night. Flashlight in hand, and your fourth cup of coffee in the other, you walk your usual route, scanning the darkened corners of the exhibit, looking for something, anything out of the ordinary. More than anything you would quit in a heartbeat, but you were under the mercy of a reasonable paycheck.

You aim your flashlight around each corner and bend of the exhibit, waiting for anything interesting to pop up. You yawned and took a moment to sip at your coffee, yearning for the sense of feeling awake for once on this job.
Just as you felt yourself nod off, something on the roof thinker and you jumped, your flashlight dropping, rolling across the floor, it's beam hitting the Beating Heart. Your breathing hitches with each thump you hear oh the roof. Moonlight shone down from the skylight above, that is until a shadow loomed against it.
You arch your head up to see a shadowy figured standing atop the skylight, something long and narrow glinting against the moonlight.

You go into full blown panic as you reach for your walkie-talkie, requesting for back up. Before you could, you hear the slice of the glass from above, a circular piece of the window clambering down. You jumped out of the way, just as it hit the ground, shattering to pieces. Glass rains out across the floor, a piece cutting your arm before you could even comprehend it. You gasp and clutch your now bleeding arm, scooting back in absolute fear.

You reach back again for your walkie-talkie, but was absent from your belt. Your breathing quickens and you frantically search the ground for any sign of it. Something clacks against the ground, and slowly rolls over and hits your foot. You look down to see some strange silver ball, black dots sprawled across its surface. A moment passes and the room is silent, except for your frantic breathing.

"Shit! It was supposed to go off by now!", an angered voice said from above on the rooftop. "I don't get it, I tested it and everything, is it a dud?"

"It doesn't matter lupin just throw down another one," another disgruntled voice chimed in. "Goemon I only brought one, because we only needed one!" The voice complained.
"Oh for fuck's sake, just lower me down!"

You jump to your feet as you see a figure dressed in all black being lowered from a rope and harness from the hole in the skylight. "H-hey! Stop right there!" You screamed, not knowing what else to do. You were the only person in this wing of the museum, and you couldn't exactly call for backup at this point.

"Hey there!" The figure responded with a monkey-ish chuckle, reaching the display case for the Beating Heart. With lightning fast reflexes he flipped open a laser pointer of sorts, and drew a circle on the glass surface with the laser. The glass melted, and he popped in the frame, scooping up the precious Ruby. You had to do something, or else you would for sure be fired. You had no excuse, as you were caught on the security tape.

And if you were caught doing nothing, then that wouldn't fair well with your boss. You lunge forward, across the velvet roping, and latch onto the thief. Just as you wrap your arms around his waist, trying to pull him down, the moonlight reveals his form. You gasp, recognizing those monkey ears and that stupid grin. It was the renowned Lupin The Third, in your very grasp.

"Hey now, let go!" He yelped, trying to shove you off of him with his free hand, the other grasping tight to the ruby. You weren't giving up so soon. "Jigen, pull me up!"
"O-on it!" A familiar voice said back, your heart suddenly stopping at that very moment. That soft yet aggressive and velvety voice that made you swoon every time. You couldn't afford to get distracted, yet you wanted to let Lupin he pulled up to see if it really was him. Was it truly your beloved?!

And with that, the two of you were pulled up through the hole, rolling onto the roof with a thump. The ruby tumbled from Lupin's grasp, careening toward the edge of the roof.

"My ruby!" Lupin yelped, pushing you off of him, and running like maniac toward his treasure. Forgetting he was harnessed, he tripped over a part of his rope and tumbled to the ground, just inches away from the ruby.
The ruby teetered off of the roof and tumbled down to the ground, hitting the pavement with a loud clink. Lupin screeched and started to push himself off the roof, desperate to go after it. The rope tugged at him as he was still harnessed to it.
Lupin cried out in agony, scared that his treasure was now gone for good. With Lupin distracted, you whip around, face to face with the very tattered hat that sat on your head earlier that day.

"/yn/!" Jigen gasps, letting go of the rope that held Lupin. Lupin screamed as he fell from the roof, since Jigen no longer had him harnessed down. With a crash, he landed in the bushes, squealing in pain.

You were trembling as Jigen moved closer to you. "/Yn/, it's not what it looks like!"
"Then what is it Jigen?!" You yelled in fury. "What is going on?! What are you doing helping the world's most infamous thief?!"
Jigen's shoulders sank, and he took off his hat. "I....I'm sorry....I haven't been completely honest with you..."

Those words stung your ears, as tears pricked your eyes, and you slapped him hard on the face. His eyes widened and he clutched his now red cheek. "You jerk!" you screamed. "What made you think it was a good idea to lie to me?! What are we huh?! I thought we were something special!"

"Jigen...who is this?" Goemon asks, crossing his arms, raising an eyebrow. Jigen looks back at Goemon, and then you, then him. He let out a sigh, as it was clearly heard that Lupin was ballistically scaling the wall again. "It's time to come clean...to both of you..."

Just as Lupin threw himself onto the roof, Jigen began his confession. "Goemon...Lupin....this is my girlfriend, /yn/."

Goemon looked slightly shocked, and lupin let out an audible grunt as he stormed over to Jigen. "You dick, this whole thing was about some girl?!"
"You're one to talk Lupin" Jigen grumbled. He turns to you, putting his hands on your shoulder. You brush him away angrily. "/yn/... I'm not a neural engineer, and I'm not rich because of that...I'm a thief."
Those words were haunting, as you felt vertigo hit you like a freight train. You almost teetered over, before Jigen rushed over and helping you to your feet. "I'm a thief...and I work with Lupin The Third..."
You couldn't process that information. This man you loved, was a criminal?! He seemed to sweet and loving for that...yet that was the truth.

Suddenly, police sirens could be heard in the distance. Lupin cursed and Jigen sighed, rubbing a hand against his face. "Here comes pops" Lupin grumbled. Goemon gestured Jigen to follow, and the began to run to the edge of the roof, ready to jump. Jigen stayed put, looking into your now tear soaked eyes. "Did you just date me so you could steal the ruby?" you whispered, heartbroken, his eyes lit up and he grabbed your hands. "/yn/...I lied because I knew you wouldn't love me if you knew the truth. The moment I saw you, I knew you had to be mine...and I'll be damned if I'll ever let anything happen to you..."

You cry out and rest your head in his chest. "Jigen you idiot" you sob. "I will always love you, I always will."

"Jigen, chop chop we gotta go, Zenigata is here!" Lupin yelled out.
Jigen looked back at you with watery eyes. "Jigen...don't go...face the consequence..." you whispered, holding tight to him. "Stay with me..."
He looked pained as he gently pushed you away. You gasp, as you wipe away tears. He suddenly slips off his hat, his black hair flowing in the soft breeze. He plops the hat onto your head. His eyes sparkle and he gives you a small smile, pulling you close. "It suits you.../yn/..."
"Jigen....". He pulls you into a long and hard kiss. His lips trembled against yours, and you melee yourself into him, in this minty moment. Alas, he finally separated

He squeezes you one last time. "I'll be back to get that hat back...and steal you away my love..." he whispered. Before you could speak against it, he was already tearing across the roof, joining Lupin and Goemon, crouched over the edge, and with that, the thieves leaped, and were gone for good.
The sirens were loud and almost mocking as you sat there, the hat upon your head.
"Lupin, get back here!" a voice called out in the distance, as you heard Lupin's laughs grow quieter and quieter.
Alone and cold, you slipped his hat from your head, and stared at the worn down fabric of it. Tears prick your eyes and you hug it to your chest.
"I will wait..." you sobbed.

"I will wait...I will wait for you..."
You slowly walk to the edge of the roof, watching the police cars zoom off after the thieves. You smiled sadly.
"I wait for the day you steal me away...my love..."
