//Mabel's POV\\

I heard grunkle Stan talking to some men about his business. Talking about how it would be impossible to venture far to trade.

I was supposed to be asleep but I had a nightmare so I got up and slowly walked into the room they were in.

They all stopped talking and turned their heads to me as Stan asked "The nightmare again?"  I nodded slowly.

He looked at the men and walked towards me "I won't be long."  He said as he held his hand out to me.

I took his hand and he carried me back to my bed and tucked me in.

I started to tell him about my nightmare "I'm falling, down  a dark hole, and I see strange creatures."

He asks "What kind of strange creatures?"

I started again telling him what creatures I saw "There's a dodo bird,  a rabbit in a waist coat, a smiling cat

He looked down at me and said "I didn't know cats could smile."

I shook my head slightly and said "Neither did I. And there's a blue caterpillar."

He looks strangely at me "Blue caterpillar. Hm."

I looked worried as I asked "Do you think I've gone mad?"

He checked my forehead and said "I'm afraid so. Your mad. Bonkers! Off your head. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are."  He smiled at me and I smiled back, as I laughed quietly.

He kept talking "It's only a dream Mabel. Nothing can harm you there. But if you ever get to frightened you can always wake up with this."  He pinched my arm but not to hard as I said "Owwww."  as I smiled and pinched his arm back.

He smiled as he rubbed my cheek gently.

//Thirteen years later\\

I was riding in a carriage with Ford. I frowned as I looked out the window. 

I wore a light blue dress with lace on the sleeves, white boots,  and my hair done elegantly in curls.

Ford looked at me frowning too as he reached his hand out to keep my hair being perfect.

I looked at him and said "Must we go? Doubt they'll notice if we never arrive."

He looked at me and said "They will notice."

He looked down at my dress and asked "Where's your corset?"

I looked down and he sighed as he lifted my dress up slightly to reveal I didn't have stockings.

"And no stockings?"

I looked back up at him and said "I'm against them."

He stared at me and said "But your not properly dressed."

He looked annoyed as I asked "And your to say what is proper? What if it was agreed that proper was wearing a cod fish on your head? Would you wear it?"

He sighed and said "Mabel."

I turned my head the other way looking out the window as I mumbled "To me wearing a corset is like wearing wearing a cod fish."

He said in an annoyed tone "Please not today." I looked back at him and said "Stan, would have laughed."

He looked down at his lap as I said "I'm sorry. I'm tired.  I didn't sleep well last night."

He looked back up at me and asked "Did you have bad dreams again?"

"Only one. It's always the same, ever since I can remember. Do you think that's normal? Don't most people have different dreams? "

He shook his head and said "I don't know."

He carefully took a box out of his pocket and opened it revealing a necklace.  He carefully placed it around my neck and hooked the pieces together so it stayed.  "There. Your beautiful. Now can you manage to smile?"

I fake smiled and he smiled back.

After a while we arrived to the destination, we climbed out of the carriage and quickly made our way to the party to meet two people, a wife and her husband. 

The women spoke first "At last we thought you'd never arrive. Mabel,  Gideon is waiting to dance with you."

I nodded and walked towards the area where everyone was dancing.

//Ford's POV\\

Mabel left and the woman spoke again "You do realize it's well past four? Now everything will have to be rushed through."

I nodded and said "I am sorry."

She shook her head "Oh never mind." She walked away leaving me and her husband.

He looked at me and said "Forgive my wife she has been planning this for over 20 years."

I sighed and said "If only Stan were here."

He nodded "My apologies,  I think figured your brother often.  He was truly a man of vision.  I hope you don't think I've taken advantage of your misfortunes."

I spoke "Course not. I'm pleased you purchased the company."

He nodded slowly and said "I was a fool for not investing in your brothers mad Ventures." 

I smiled and said "Stan thought so too."

//Mabel's POV \\

Me and Gideon bowed to each other and looked forward as everyone else did. We bowed to another couple and he took my hand and we took a few steps towards the couple, stepped back then forward again.

As we did so I asked "Gideon. Do you have a tire of quadrille?"

"On the contrary. I find it invigorating."

We took a few steps to the couple again and Hamish held the ladies hand similarly like mine. 

We walked back and then forth and he let go of the ladies hand and she went back with the man. 

I laughed slightly and he looked at me strangely and said "Do I amuse you?"

"No I had a sudden vision of all the women in trousers and all the men in dresses. "

It was silent for a moment as we kept dancing, then he spoke "It would be better if you kept your visions to your self."

I frowned as he said "When I doubt,  stay silent."

We kept dancing as I looked up at a flock of birds and zoned out causing me to accidentally hit a woman.

He smiled and said "Sorry,  miss Pines is distracted today."

He pulled me to the side and said in an annoyed tone "Raise your head!"

"I was wondering what it would be like to fly. "

We continued dancing as he said" Why spend your time thinking of such an impossible thing? "

I smiled and asked "Why wouldn't I? My grunkle said sometimes he would think up 6 impossible things before breakfast."

Someone singled him for us to do something.  I wasn't quite sure but he led me out of the dancing area and said "Come."

"Mabel,  meet me under the gazebo in precisely 10 minutes. "

With that he walked away.

Then I heard two girl's laugh behind me.  I turned around to see two girl in white dresses, one with blue stripes and one with pink stripes. 

One of them had black hair and glasses the other no glasses and kind of brownish red hair. 

They both said "We have a secret to tell you."  they seemed like they were about to burst with excitement!

"If your telling me it's not much of a secret. "

The one with black hair turned to her friend and said "Perhaps we shouldn't, Grenda."

The other one smiled and said "We already decided we would,  Candy."

Candy spoke again "If we tell her she won't be surprised."

They looked at me and Grenda asked me "If we tell you will you be surprised?"

I smiled a little "Not if you tell me,  but now you've brought it up you have to!"

Grenda said "No we don't."  and Candy said right after "In fact we won't."  they both snickered.

I smirked slightly and said "I wonder if your mothers know that you two swim naked in the Northwest's Pond."

Their smiled disappeared as Grenda said "You wouldn't."

"Oh but I would. That's them right there. "

They both said quickly "Gideon is going to ask for your hand!"

I heard a gasp from behind and was greeted by Dipper my twin brother.  "You ruined it!"

He pit his arm around me and walked me towards the hedge maze.

"Ugh,  I could strangle them! Everyone worked so hard to keep it a secret! "

I looked at him " Everyone knows? "

He smiled " Well of course,  that's why there all here.  This is your engagement party. "
