The story of Novi Ro-Zan was inextricably linked to that of Kal-El. Though her father was one of the people who didn't believe Jor-El's warnings about the fate of Krypton, her mother, who had an infant of her own and was best friends with Lara Jor-El, wasn't taking any chances with her child. Behind her husband's back and with the help of the House of El, Estraora Ro-Zan procured a pod of her own and sent Novi off alongside Kal-El, hoping they'll reach Earth and find each other.

And, though it took some time, find each other Novi and Kal-El did, though that was not the names with which they met under. Both having been found and taken in by human families, they were now Nell Starr and Clark Kent. But Nell and Clark found each other, just as their parents wanted them to, finding solace and familiarity in each other and even falling in love.

Nell and Clark had a whirlwind romance, falling hard and fast for each other, not even secret identities and becoming heroes and protectors of Metropolis able to come between them. Even marriage was a challenge the two Kryptonians-on-Earth were able to tackle easily. They seemed to be able to take on any obstacle placed in their path with ease, blissfully unaware of the negative emotions they were stirring up in the mind of the architect of their greatest challenge yet.
