I quickly run outside, trying to quicken my pace. My lungs already burning, but I can't stop. Then suddenly- out of nowhere- a horse rears in front of me. I stumble back, gasping, my heart racing.
When I finally look up, I see who it is.
"Faya...." My voice breaks with relief. I step closer, pressing my forehead against his.
"Oh you're so loyal it hurts" I said
With no time to waste, I grab the reins and swing myself onto his back.
"One last ride" I whisper, and then we're off- thundering across the earth toward Clarke.
We reach the tower in less than three minutes. Clarke is there, staring up at it, preparing to climb. She turns at the sound of hooves.
"Clarke!" I yell, sliding off Faya.
"Diana! I have to climb- it won't work from here. You need to get back. I won't make it but you can-" she starts, frantic.
"Clarke, no. Listen to me, I knew this would happen. The commanders showed me. You're going back to the rocket. I'm staying" I said, my voice sharp and final.
Her eyes widened.
"What no-" she starts again
"Clarke, please! This isn't a debate. I have to do this. Take Faya, he'll get you back in time. All I ask is...when you get there, take off his reins. Let him be free before he dies" my voice softened.
She stares at me, trembling, then nods.
"You've sacrificed too much already, Clarke. You don't get to die here. Your people need you in space" I say
Her lips press tight as tears slip down. She throws her arms around me, clinging like she didn't want to let go.
"You deserve the world, Diana. I hope you know that" she cries
I just hug her tighter, fighting the tears.
When we pulled apart, she mounts Faya. I press my forehead against him one last time.
"Take her back. Then be free. Thank you for your loyalty" I whisper
"Remember the reins" I remind Clarke. She nods through tears.
She starts to ride off, but I call out again.
"Clarke!.... Take care of Bellamy for me" I said
She swallows hard.
"I will. May we meet again" she said
All I can do is nod before she disappears with Faya.
I turned toward the tower, slinging the backpack over my shoulders, and start to climb.
Halfway up, my foot slips. My body jerks, dangling, but my grip holds. I grunt, pulling myself back into motion. Faster. Higher.
When I finally reach the top, I tear open the bag and pull out the tablet. My hand fumble with the junction box.
"Sat-star-one" I whisper to myself, plugging it in.
The tablets flash.
Dish not aligned. Dish not aligned.
"Come on, turn!" I yell, shaking it.
Manuel override recommend
I sling the tablet aside and climb higher, grabbing the massive dish. With every ounce of strength, I shove it toward alignment. My muscles burn, my shoulders scream.
"Move, damn you!" I grunt
The dish moves. The finally, it locks. I slide back down, grabbing the tablet again.
Dish aligned
My chest tightens with relief- until the screen flickers out.
"No, no, no!" I yell then hurl the tablet from the tower. Watching it shatter on the ground below.
If it didn't work....i just killed everyone.
I force myself to breathe, then glance toward the horizon- just in time to see the rocket ignite. Fire streaked across the sky as it lifts, leaving me behind.
"Please... keep them safe" I whisper, closing my eyes.
The death wave was closer now. No time to think. I climbed down as fast as I can, hands raw, legs shaking. I hit the ground, sprinting toward the lab.
But my foot catches a log. I slam into the dirt, helmet cracking open against the ground. Panic floods me- I can feel the heat already gnawing at my exposed skin.
Still, I push myself up. I run. Faster. My body burns, my face feels like it's peeling away. The air is poison, tearing up my lungs.
I crash into the lab just as the radiation storm hits. The blast of heat throws me against the counter. I slide down, collapsing on the floor.
Every breath is agony. My vision blurs, black spots closing in.
I stare at the ceiling. A strange calm washes over me.
"Your fight is over" I whisper. My body goes still, and everything falls silent.
6 years and 7 days later
I open my eyes to a drop of rain against my cheek. The storm is long gone. The sky is blue, the sun warm.
I sit on a log, pulling out a salvaged satellite radio. Adjusting it towards the heavens, I press the button. My voice softer now, worn but steady.
"Bellamy, if you can hear me, you're alive. It's been 2,199 days since Praimfaya. I don't know why I still do this everyday- Maybe it's my way of staying sane, not forgetting who I am.... Who I was. It's been safe for you to come down for over a year now, why haven't you? The bunkers gone silent too. I tried digging them out for a while, but there was too much rubble. I haven't made contact with them either. It's been a long time since I told you how I felt, Bellamy. I finally had you, then I lost you. But, I still have hope. Tell Raven to aim for the one spot of green and you'll find me. The rest of the planet from what I've seen is basically dead so-" I say
Then a thunderous boom shakes the ground. I look up sharply.
Through the clouds, a massive ship descends.
"Never mind....I see you" I whisper, stunned.
I drop the radio and sprint over to the rover. Crawling inside, I gently shake the sleeping girl in the back.
"Hey, my little nightblood.....It's time to wake up" I whisper
She groans, burying her face.
"No lessons today" she said
I smirk, but freeze as another rumble shakes the earth. She sits up, eyes wide, then grins.
"Took you long enough" I smirk, then she bolts out of the rover.
"I thought you said the ship was small!" She yells, looking up.
I froze, staring up again.
This wasn't them.
"Madi, go get the riffle now" I said snd she didn't hesitate.
She rushed back, handing it to me.
I raise the scope, zooming in on the hull. The words make my stomach drop.
Prisoner transport
"We're here! We're here!" Madi bounces with excitement.
"Stop. Get down" my tone was sharp, as I yank her down.
"What?" Her face falls
"This isn't them....I want you to back up the rover. Get out of sight and load the guns." I tell her
"All of them?" She asks
"All of them." I nod grimly, never taking my eyes off the ship.
Whoever these people were...they aren't my family.
And whatever's coming...we're not ready.
