One by one, people went into cryo. Hugs, tears, whispered promises. When Madi's turn came, I knelt beside her.

"Will we dream?" She asked

"I don't know. But if we do, I'll see you in mine" I kissed her forehead.

"I'm so proud of you, my little warrior." I said as she laid down. Brushing her hair out of her face.

"I love you, mom" she whispered.

"I love you too" I smile before the pool sealed around her.

Next was Octavia. I stopped her with a hand on her arm.

"I forgive you, O. Even if you wanted war, you did what you thought was best for your people. Six years in a bunker would break anyone. I still don't trust you- but I love you like a sister. Always remember that" I say

Her arms wrapped around me suddenly, tightly.
"I'm sorry, Diana. You deserve all of this- Bellamy, Heda. You earned it" she whispered into my shoulder

"You'll earn it again someday. I believe it" I told her softly.

Then she walked to Bellamy, who was waiting to help her into cryo.

"Ready?" I ask Bellamy.

"It won't feel long for us." He said

"I'm not complaining. I could use the sleep" I laughed.

"I love you, grounder girl" he murmured brushing his hand over my cheek.

"I love you too, sky boy" I whispered, before our lips met in one last kiss.

The pod hissed around me. I clutched my necklace, letting the darkness pull me under.

Light.

I blinked awake, confusion heavy in my head. My pod hissed open. Across the bay, Bellamy's did too. Relief flooded me.

I stood and walked over to his as it opened.

"Hey" I breathed

"Hey." He echoed, smiling groggily.

We both looked around.
"Why just us?" He asked, and before I could say anything, a voice answered.

"That's the way mom and dad wanted it" they said.

We turned to see a young man watching us.

"Uh.. can I just say wow, I mean I can't tell you how good it is to finally meet you. Weird but good, great actually" he ranted, as Bellamy and I took a couple steps toward him.

"Who are you?" Bellamy asked

"My name. Right. I didn't tell you my name. Sorry. I've never met anyone before, so I clearly suck at it. Heh.... I'm Jordan. Monty and Harper's son." He smiles

The words hit me like a blade. My knees nearly buckled.

"They didn't go to sleep" Bellamy whispered

Jordan nodded.
"They talked about your time on the ring a lot. Too much actually. How happy they were there. I guess they wanted to get back to that. Get dressed and come to the bridge. Dad left explicit instructions. Wake Bellamy and Diana first, play them the message." He said, then started to walk off.

"Hey, wait." I called out, he turned back around.

"How long were we asleep?" I askEd

"125 years" he answers

My breath caught.

"Hey guys. It's been about a year since you all went to bed." Monty started on screen in front of us.

I forced myself to take a breath.

"Not much to report really, my algae farm is awesome no surprise there. Oh I'm able to monitor conditions on the ground using the ship's geologic equipment, so I'll know when it's safe for us to go back down. It gets a little lonely sometimes without the rest of you, but the peace and quiet is what-" Monty explains

"Monty, I've been waiting" Harper's voice cut in.

"Harper, wait I'm in the middle of-" he starts

"You promised me. We have another 40 staterooms that were-" harper said, walking into the screen, then screams and runs off.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She laughed

"Uh not a lot to do in space." Monty said shyly.

"I so didn't need to see that" Jordan murmured

"Hey again. Today's the two year anniversary of the long nap." Monty said, as him and shower appear on the screen.

Harper was pregnant.

"Harper's been eating a little too much algae" he added

"Hilarious. Hey guys, um surprise. We picked a name today. Boy or girl, Jordan." Harper smiled

"I think jasper would like that. Anyway still no sign the ground is coming back. I wouldn't expect it this soon, so I'm not worried. We'll check back in next time there's news." Monty says

"Meet Jordan jasper green. Shhh. That's all for now. Harper's resting. We're both good though. Shhh. He'll be eight when you meet him. I can't wait to see your faces." Monty said, holding baby Jordan in his hands and kissing his head.

"Things didn't go as planned." Jordan muttered

"Happy wake up day. Ten years. And since you're watching this some time in the future, you know now that uh, that I didn't wake you up. That's because there's still nothing down there. I'm working the problem. I've told harper it's to be expected but um well that's a lie. This is gonna take a while. Jordan is doing great though, he's a happy kid. I took a page from Diana's parenting book. He knows all about you guys. Believe it or not, Murphys his favorite." Monty said, laughing slightly.

"It was a rebellious phase" Jordan shrugged as we glanced at him.

"Anyway. It's gonna be a while. I'll let you know if things change." Monty said.

My breath caught as the next video popped up.

Monty and Harper were older. Their hair grey. Wrinkles covered their faces.

"Hey guys, it's been a long time since we recorded one of these. We just put Jordan in cryo. He's a good boy." Monty said slowly

"Smart like his father" harper adds

"And kind like his mom. We chose this life, he didn't. Hey. If you're watching this kiddo, we love you so much. Did you follow my instructions? Assuming he did. Hey Bellamy, hey Diana. We wanted him to wake you first so we could talk. Earth... isnt coming back. You've been asleep for over 28 years. And it's as dead as the day we left. I'm working on a plan B though. If you're awake that means I found it. I'll see you again when I do" Monty said, reaching his hand to turn the video off. But harper stops him.

"Wait, not yet. Take care of our boy." Harper said one last time.

We watch Monty sit down slowly. Only Monty.

"Jordan, your mother died today. She was pretty sick the last few years. Clarke was right, her dad's genetic condition finally got her." Monty said.

Emotions cut through me like a blade.

"We had a good life, sometimes. I know she wanted to be with you guys. Maybe I did too. But if we did that, I wouldn't be able to show you this. Son" Monty said.

The jordan clicks a button. And the viewpoint opens up.

"It took me 30 years but I finally cracked the eligius 3 mission file. Turns out it wasn't a mining mission. After sucking the earth dry of oil, they went looking for another planet to tap." Monty said, as we look outside.

"Two suns?" I muttered

"I set coordinates a week ago. If I'm right, you should get there in...75 years. I'm tempted to put myself in cryo to see it, but without harper. Anyway it's in the Goldilocks zone of a binary star system. But that's all I know. Eligius three never radioed back or if they did it was after apocalyptics one, so no one heard it. Can you see it? Is it beautiful? It is in my dreams. I hope we do better there. I hope jasper was wrong and we aren't the problem. I hope your lives there will be as happy as mine has been." Monty said.

As he talked, memory's flashed in my head. Their laughter. Their grins. Their softness.

I tired not to cry. Failed miserably.

Monty's final words played, his voice clear, softer, but steady.

"Be the good guys. May we meet again" he said

Tears blurred my vision as Bellamy's arm wrapped around me.

"May we meet again" we whispered together

And after all of that, I finally believed that we could truly do better.
