"Youre not being sent home" a colonel told me as i was walking to bear and walls room to check on them.
"You and those two other brave marines" he said as i looked past him
"Son they plan on giving you a new full deployment calender" he said stepping in front of me
"Sir with all due respect im not worried about that, im worried about my men" i said side stepping and walking past him.
"Go on ahead seargent, i understand" he says stepping aside as i walk past at practically a run to see bear flirting with the nurse and wall complaining about cafeteria "slop" as he called it. As i stepped in the room i couldnt help but chuckle
"Same old 2 idiots" i say to myself as i walk over to them.
"Well its about time he comes and visits us" bear practically yells to wall
"No kidding, its like he forgot about us" i do my best to laugh as they both sit up and wait for news
"So we goin home sarge, i heard rumors about you gettin the navy cross" wall says excitedly
"Sorry guys but we're getting nothing but a new full deployment calender" after i say this i look down thinking i had failed my men. Bear starts to get red in the face
"This is absolute bullshit we got fucking blown up and what do they do, send us back for longer. Way to thanks us you bastards!!" Bear yells.
"Bear quite down" i tell him firmly
"We'll get through this together guys" wall says, optimistic as always.
"Attention!" Someone yells as we all snap to attention and face the officer and salute him.
"At ease men, i heard there were some complaints about my reasoning on your deployment" he says, obviously he was a desk jockey with his spitshined shoes, polished brass and the way he acted.
"Permission to speak freely sir" i ask him
"I dont see why you cant sailor" he says snarkily pointing at my chest where my last name and the u.s navy sat, im a corpsman who was deployed with a marine unit.
"Sir we served our time, why cant we just fucking go home?" I say ignoring the voice in my head tellin him to fuck off.
"Actually sailor you only spent seven months, most marines do thirteen" he says putting enfacise on marines.
"Now if you excuse me i have much more pressing matters to attend to" he says as we all snap to attention and he leaves.
"Man fuck that prick" bear says as soon as the coast is clear.
"Yep but he outranks us" i say sadly.
