"Nothing. I am just trying to find a way to spend my day." Barkpaw tried to lie as he squeezed out a smile. The white she-cat with russet splotches' eyes shone. Meeting his eyes and closing the distance between them, she gently put her tail on his shoulders and leaned closer. 

Her whiskers tickled Barkpaw's ears and he heard a faint whisper, "If you need me, I am here for you. You know that right?" Barkpaw nodded shyly and Cherrychaser beamed. 

"See you soon! I know you can solve whatever difficulties that lie ahead of you!" She headed towards the clearing and disappeared into her den.

Barkpaw smiled as he remembered the soft touch of his mother. By the time he returned to the medicine cat den, the mysterious voices were gone with the wind. 

Lilypetal nodded at his approach as she licked her paws that was covered with dirt. Seeing Barkpaw's curious eyes, she mewed causally with a smile, "Just went out foraging, are you ready for today's lesson?"

Barkpaw was clear that he saw something but he did not know what. Probably it was just a herb... He shook his ridiculous thoughts away and stared at the wall that was hung with catmint. 

"Barkpaw!"

Lilypetal was looking at him with sparks in her eyes as her soft voice echoed through the den. She added with a hint of laughter, "Are you ready or not?"

Seeing his mentor with a encouraging smile, Barkpaw limped as he called behind her, "Ready!"

End of Chapter 2

After Shadedstar loses his last life, Barkpaw feels guilty because he could have saved Shadedstar's life if he has arrived earlier

After choosing Falcondusk as the new leader, he gains some liking from Falcondusk. However, Cranepuddle and Lilypetal are not happy about his decision
