Pokemon 2019: Can it be Good?

Heya everyone, so recently I've been thinking about a little fear lurking in my mind. X and Y was a huge leap forward for the series in many ways but it was lacking in a lot of other ways, and that's because they had to build 3D models for over 700 Pokémon and animate them in battle.

X and Y ended up with a lot of missing content and unresolved plot threads we never saw the answer to. They had a lot of plans but because of time constraints they couldn't make it in the image they wanted the game to be.

Sun and Moon also did end up missing a lot of supplemental content because the fan base was so rabid for a Pokémon and couldn't wait an extra year.

Ultra Sun and Moon ended up being the ultimate most complete Pokémon out there, but only half the people who bought sun and moon bought them. The exact same thing happened with Black and White and Black and White 2.

What's the common thread here? Whenever a Pokémon tries to fix the problems of the version that they felt were incomplete it doesn't sell as well. People are already tired of two versions, a more complete version usually is pushing it.

I personally wish pokemon would just drop the generation system of having a bunch of different games in the span of 3 years. It wasn't as hard to develop a game in tight time constraints when they were working on the GBA but the DS took a lot more time to develop with which is why Diamond and Pearl needed to get delayed.

I've found that 3 years is the Golden time for any game to be made from the ground up. Skyrim, Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Super Smash Bros 4 were all made in three years. And none of these games feel rushed.

But what they have is a team working on that game and only that game. Yes there's a 3 year gap between black and white and x and y but do you know what got in the way of that? Black and White 2. Those games were no just slap 10 people on a dev team. They had a large amount of the Pokémon Company's resources going into them.

The reason X and Y were rushed is because of how the 3DS's sales were stalling and Black and White happened literally right as the 3DS was releasing. Gen 5 could not have come at a worse time.

It sent Nintendo scrambling and harmed Gen 6 and even damaged Gen 7.

The reason many people were demanding a new Pokémon game in 2015 was because we were left with a remake of an old game and an incomplete game for a generation.

Sun and Moon did leagues better at feeling complete but still needed time. And Ultra had half the team and managed to fix the major problems the games had.

So back to Pokémon 2019. Let's assume as soon as they finished Sun and Moon they started active development on Gen 8, upon seeing the Switch's success they moved work onto that system.

Then let's assume after seeing how great Pokémon Go did they also came up with let's go and hired a small team to work on it. If pokemon 2019 releases in October or November, is that enough time to make it a complete game? Maybe.

ORAS certainly took more work than USUM did and since they only needed one year buffer to create the best looking 3DS games I think they can do it.

I'm choosing to believe let's go isn't taking much of the development team, they probably just have one of their third party divisions working on it.

Not only that but this isn't like jumping into 3D. This is working with highly improved graphics but they've figured out how to translate Pokémon into 3D.

They've got the 3D models, they just need to upres them. Really X and Y is still serving as the stepping stone making sure we can keep getting good Pokémon games that aren't incomplete.

I believe Pokémon 2019 will be great. Gen 7 ended up really just being one and a half games so they're finally nearing what I want. If they stop focusing on doing 5 games in the span of 3 years including an entirely new experience the overall quality of Pokémon games will improve.

I know people will have a knee jerk reaction to this of 'WHAT! I can't wait 3 years for the next Pokémon!' But if the next Pokémon is complete I think we'll all be able to handle the wait. Everyone who wants more Pokémon has Ultra Sun and Moon and they're still plenty entertaining.

I'm all for remakes but don't make them your main focus Pokémon. If you're gonna remake a gen do it every other Gen so I know it's not detracting from the new games.

I also want to talk about how Town has managed to exist. As we know Game Freak is pretty much all pokemon. They made Tembo the Badass Elephant in 2015 and that's their most recent video game that isn't Pokémon. And it was a 2D side scroller.

So I think it's worth noting that we finally have a brand new RPG series from Game Freak. Seriously if they can do something creative with this game I'm all for it. It's like how I don't like that Hal is just a Kirby machine. I know they have other ideas and I want to see more of them.

But what do you think? Will Pokémon 2019 be another rush job and followed up with two more Pokémon games? Will Game Freak finally realize that they don't need to make a new game every year?

Thanks everyone for reading, I know it's been a while since I last updated this book but I'm back now. Have a wonderful day everyone!
